Book Synopsis The Seafood Industry by : George J. Flick
Download or read book The Seafood Industry written by George J. Flick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although there are excellent books on specific aspects of the seafood industry, few, if any, offer both the breadth and depth of information that the editors and authors of The Seafood Industry provide here. The Seafood Industry is designed to cover the spectrum of seafood topics, taking the products from the water to the dinner plate and every stop in between. Information and insights into commercially important species of finfish and shell and their handling and processing are furnished. Chapters are included on fish such wide-ranging topics as retail merchandising of seafood, plant cleaning and sanitation, transportation, and product packaging. Emerging issues and interests, such as aquaculture, waste treatment, and government regulations, also are covered. The information is written so that the processor, wholesale buyer, retailer, or consumer can understand it and put it to practical application. Yet the student and the scientist can find much valuable information within the various chapters. The material included here has proven its practicality, as it is adapted from a self-study course that has been used by hundreds of people in roughly forty states and fifteen foreign countries. The editors and authors have made every effort to furnish the most up-to-date information and technologies available. However, as with any dynamic industry, change is constant. Fishery stocks ebb and flow; consumption patterns shift; new technologies are devised and implemented; and government rules and regulations are rewritten and enacted.

Investigating the forces that get fish to our dinner tables, Greenberg reveals our damaged relationship with the ocean and its inhabitants. Just three decades ago, nearly everything we ate from the sea was wild. Today, rampant overfishing and an unprecedented biotech revolution have brought us to a point where wild and farmed fish occupy equal parts of a complex marketplace. Four Fish offers a way for us to move toward a future in which healthy and sustainable seafood is the rule rather than the exception.
Book Synopsis Fly-fishing-the Sacred Art by : Eric Eisenkramer

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover the spiritual potential hidden in every cast of the fly rod. "For us, fly-fishing is about more than catching fish. We have been skunked on the stream too many times to count, and stood shivering in our waders in 45-degree water long after sundown. Yet, every chance we get, we head back to the river in search of trout and something more." --from Rabbi Eric's Introduction "Early in my fly-fishing career I remember telling a friend that there is so much to learn! Some forty years later, that is still true. Every trip I learn something new about rivers, fish and the natural world. Most importantly, I learn something new about myself. Every encounter with the waters of our planet draws me deeper into who I am and who I want to become." --from Reverend Mike's Introduction In this unique exploration of fly-fishing as a spiritual practice, an Episcopal priest and a rabbi share what fly-fishing has to teach us about reflection, awe and the wonder of the natural world, the benefits of solitude, the blessing of community and the search for the Divine. Tapping the wisdom in the Christian and Jewish traditions and their own geographically diverse experiences on the water, they show how time spent on the stream can help you navigate the currents and eddies of your own inner journey.

Book Synopsis Entangled Histories in Palestine/Israel by : Dafna Hirsch
Download or read book Entangled Histories in Palestine/Israel written by Dafna Hirsch and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-04-16 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume offers a new critical approach to the study of Zionist history and Israeli-Palestinian relations, based on the encounter between history and anthropology. Informed by the anthropological method of setting large questions to intimate settings, the book examines processes of Zionist colonization, nation-building and Palestinian dispossession by focusing on encounters between members of different national, religious and ethnic groups “from below”—through paying close attention to life stories and reconstructing everyday practices and micro-histories of places and communities. Thus, it tells a complex story in which the practices of historical actors are not simply reducible to a single underlying logic of colonization, even as they participate in the production and reproduction of colonial structures. This approach effectively undermines the prevailing tendency to study national communities in isolation, projecting onto the past an essentialist and rigid separation. Rather than assuming two clearly bounded and monolithic national groups, caught from the start in perpetual conflict, this volume probes their historical production through their evolving relationships, and their varied and shifting political, social, economic and cultural manifestations. The book will be of interest to students and researchers in an array of fields, including the history of Israeli-Palestinian relations, anthropological perspectives on settler colonialism, and Zionism.
