Book excerpt: This book provides a rich and unique longitudinal account of content and language integrated learning (CLIL). The chapters report on the findings from a large-scale, three-year research project undertaken at senior high school level in Sweden. The ecological perspective, with quantitative and qualitative methods, gives voice to both learners and teachers, as well as being an excellent critical example of how such longitudinal research might be carried out. Through emic and etic approaches, the book provides insights into language learning outcomes, both with regard to the target language English and the majority language Swedish; learner motivation among CLIL and non-CLIL students; effects of extramural exposure to English; issues in relation to assessment in CLIL and much more. Book Synopsis STANDARD ENGLISH AND INDIAN USAGE by : J. SETHI
Download or read book STANDARD ENGLISH AND INDIAN USAGE written by J. SETHI and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second Edition of this text continues to build on the three aspects of the language discussed in the previous edition—vocabulary, grammar and idioms. Divided into two parts—Part One: Vocabulary and Part Two: Grammar —the book in Part One deals with ‘Words Often Confused’, ‘Indianisms’, ‘Indian Coinages’, ‘Idioms’, and ‘Archaisms’. Part Two takes up those areas of grammar in which divergences from Standard English are very common—articles, prepositions, tenses, verb patterns, and so on. The emphasis in the Grammar section is not so much on form as on usage. The comments on each divergent item include its Standard English equivalent (and sometimes its origin as well), together with the author’s opinion on whether the item should be retained at least within the country. With such contents and features, the book should prove very valuable to a large cross-section of the educated population—students, English teachers, professionals and businessmen. WHAT’S NEW TO THE EDITION : In Chapter 3, new items on ‘balance’/‘change’ and ‘marketing’/‘shopping’ are added. Additional examples have been provided for dependent questions in Chapter 11. Explanations and comments have been made clear at many places and a few items transferred to places where they seemed to fit in better.

Book Synopsis Interslavic zonal constructed language by : Vojtěch Merunka
Download or read book Interslavic zonal constructed language written by Vojtěch Merunka and published by Slovanská unie z.s.. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interslavic zonal constructed language is an auxiliary language, which looks very similar to real spoken Slavic languages in Central and Eastern Europe and continues the tradition of the Old Church Slavonic language. Interslavic shares grammar and common vocabulary with modern spoken Slavic languages in order to build a universal language tool that Slavic people can understand without any or with very minimal prior learning. It is an easily-learned language for those who want to use this language actively. Interslavic enables passive (e.g. receptive) understanding of the real Slavic languages. Non-Slavic people can use Interslavic as the door to the big Slavic world. Zonal constructed languages are constructed languages made to facilitate communication between speakers of a certain group of closely related languages. They belong to the international auxiliary languages, but unlike languages like Esperanto and Volapük they are not intended to serve for the whole world, but merely for a limited linguistic or geographic area where they take advantage of the fact that the people of this zone understand these languages without having to learn them in a difficult way. Zonal languages include the ancient Sanskirt, Old Church Slavonic, and Lingua Franca. Zonal design can be partially found also in modern languages such as contemporary Hebrew, Indonesian, and Swahili.
