The best way to do this is through books. A short story deals with an issue generally faced by us and interestingly shows how to tackle it. Whether you agree with the author or not it is certainly educative. Authors have a knack of casting a spell on you and attracting you to their point of view. Readers should step off from the author from time to time and reexamine author’s logic critically and decide for themselves. This is a collection of stories; therefore I am giving a brief idea of each story. Save a life: In accidents involving pregnant women, it might be possible in some cases to save the life in the womb. One rarely finds a person who risks his adopted daughter in order to get operated his sick, elderly mother. Wounded soldier: Unable to tolerate thieves teasing his sick old grandmother, a wounded soldier manages to shoot their leader. A challenge redeemed: It is a curse that a girl child is still unwelcome in many families. A brave woman faces many problems to successfully bring up her daughters to decent levels in life. The tragedy of a husband, who abandoned his wife and his daughter and reposed his complete trust on his son, is also described. The return of the natives: Disillusionment of a conservative couple who trusted that their only son, settled in USA would take care of them in the evenings of their lives. Yes, we can: Appalled by the frequency of purposeless shootouts which are spreading even to children in primary schools in USA, the author suggests that the public should give up firearms voluntarily. Late marriage: Some relatives who come to live with you might have sinister motives and may even poison you to grab your wealth. Marriages are made in heaven: A train accident throws two strangers together who reconcile to their destiny. Another son: Out of anger against a money lender, a nurse replaced his newborn son. Before she died she confessed her crime to the money lender and restored his son. Gnanaprasunambika: A famous actress realizes that she was so overwhelmed by her popularity that she was unable to have any privacy or freedom of movement; She abandons her name and fame and regains her freedom and privacy. Unpunished fraud: Some frauds may upset persons’ careers; such frauds might go undetected and unpunished. Departure of Swamyji: Nobody can predict in what state a person might be when death strikes that person! Route to heaven: A bus conductor’s flippant answer lead to the death of a semi witted person. The secret behind the cure: Faith is capable of curing any ailment.

Book excerpt: Life is too short to gain all knowledge by personal experience; one needs to learn from the experiences of others. The best way to do this is through books. A short story deals with an issue generally faced by us at different stages in life and interestingly shows how to tackle it. Whether you agree with the author or not it is certainly educative. Stories may be short but their impact would continue to reverberate for a long time in the reader's mind. Beware! Authors have a knack of casting a spell on you and attracting you to their point of view. Readers should step off from the author from time to time and reexamine author's logic critically. This is a collection of stories; therefore I am giving a brief idea of each story. Time warp: One is likely to face several crossroads during life, at which one needs to take a decision. One's experiences are one's past; one's expectations and ambitions are one's future. The former tends to caution the latter. In this story both of them were personified and brought to the same plane as the present to advise Murthy who was at a crossroads in his life. Another world: This is fiction drifting into a fairy tale; it is Venkat's first contact with a raw unkind world. Crime and punishment: Some husbands like Marthandam are unreasonably cruel toward's their wives. Once the torture crosses the limit of tolerance of the woman, she chooses an effective way to set things right, like Chidrupi did in this story. A.I.I.E.: Sometimes, well known persons might look bewitchingly attractive and make you run after them! That was what Murthy discovered. So was it written: A construction worker Bhadradri found a copper plate which lured him to find the hidden tresure. He succeeded but could not survive to enjoy the find! Divine justice: A greedy Kiran tried to grab the property of Kalyani by disputing her parentage. Scientific evidence nailed her lie in the open court. Scorpion's sting: In a weaker moment, even a good person like the manager of the choultry, might fall victim to evil influence. A circumstance might induce him to reform himself by renouncing everything and becoming a sanyasi. A husband's folly: Unlike Narayana, husbands and wives should trust each other implicitly (Even in spite of occasional lapses). Extraction of truth: Professional etiquette is essential for every professional but more so for physicians. A small mistake of Dr.Satyamurthy and his effort to cover it up boom-ranged on him. A tale of two 'Friends': Beware! Sometimes, we come across wicked persons like Gireesh who use friendship for purely selfish purposes. ---------

Book excerpt: James William's varied use of media, subject matter, and stylistic approach to his artwork is astonishingly diverse. Nevertheless, there is a commonality to his work after all: An often understated humor and a deeply ironic juxtaposition can be found in nearly all of his artwork. Most pieces of artwork in this collection tell a story and are certainly interesting in their own right, but the real delight with James William's work is sharing it with others and watching their reactions or depth of observation. This multilayered and shared amusement is gives deeper experiential depth to James William's work. I hope you enjoy the selected works enclosed in these pages. Many of these pieces have not been publicly displayed before. Look through it - closely - then share what you have discovered with others to continue the amusement and story. James William's art showcased in Scintillating Portals into the Fantastic will certainly not disappoint!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I believe that fiction is an imaginative expression of truth; it follows that every truth can events and provoke a debate that tends to reform society. The author’s responsibility is to express himself in a language which does not offend a civilized society but one which causes it to think and act. Some of these stories might so surprise some readers, that the stories might appear more imaginary than imaginative. I can assure them that the basic element of such stories is true; they merely prove that truth is stranger than fiction. Revenge: A girl did not believe the story of the death of her sister as narrated by her brother-in-law. The girl married him, discovered the cause of her sister’s death and punished him. Delayed punishment: An elderly person sexually abused a neighborhood poor girl of tender age as well as his own niece of the same age. The girls meet after their marriages and punish the culprit. A body’s lapse: Unable to withstand prolonged separation with her husband who went on active war duty, the wife had sex with his brother, although she loved her husband ardently. As soon as she learned that her husband was returning soon, she abandoned his brother telling him that she used him merely as a medicine. Mutual consent: An accident revealed that a Bank Manager had also been suffering from BP and diabetics and that he had to be under lifelong medication. His wife convinced a bank clerk to share life with her and her two children; she and her husband agreed to separate under that arrangement. Dramatic restoration: After reading the first few pages of a book a person began suspecting his wife; unable to suffer the humiliation, she attempted suicide but was saved by mutual friends. They restore her to her husband dramayically. Confession: An actor and brother of an MLA killed a person accidentally. The MLA influenced the police and got a beggar arrested for the crime. The actor surrendered to the police and got the beggar released. Jai Jagannadh! Adolescent infatuation brought a girl to a religious celebration of God Jagannadha. After marriage, she entirely dropped her adolescent affair from her memory. Asoka: After winning the Kalinga war, Asoka punished the surviving rebels cruelly by throwing them one by one into a cauldron containing boiling oil! When a Buddhist monk was thrown in, he surfaced unaffected and meditating in Padmasana. Sabari’s new version: A person remained faithful to his promise, irrespective of its absurdity. Stranger than fiction: For a girl under a strong sexual urge bordering on frenzy, death of her father earlier in the day did not seem to matter! Example of the elders: A girl saw her widowed mother having sex with another person; both were enjoying it. Unable to understand what they were doing, she tried and did the same with her friend. What a family: A mother overlooked serious lapses of her children but was cruel towards her daughters-in-law. The red ribbon: Two friends went on a sight-seeing trip. One of them was on a chase for women of easy virtue. One such person met and tried to entice the other friend who felt that she was a victim of circumstances and offered to marry her. She understood his naivety and left him before he woke up.

Book excerpt: Examine a moving, personal narrative about growing up gay in the south! Students, teachers, and anyone interested in gay studies and experiences will find that The Mentor: A Memoir of Friendship and Gay Identity (a 2001 Lambda Literary Foundation Gay Male Biography/Autobiography Award finalist) delivers a captivating and honest look into the challenges of growing up gay through the context of firsthand experiences, revelations, and realizations. This unique book is an intelligent and personal narrative that considers the social, religious, and emotional aspects of what it is like to grow up as a gay male in the south and examines the enormous social changes regarding homosexuality that have taken place in America during the last half of the century. Written to reveal the importance of the author's mentor in helping him form his self-identity and educating him about being gay, this book challenges the stereotypical idea that, unlike heterosexuals, gay men are not able to form nurturing, fulfilling bonds between themselves. The Mentor delivers an inspiring story about accepting and understanding your sexuality with the help and guidance of other men who have traveled the road to a successful gay identity. This unique book offers the courage, strength, and support of a mentor to help guide you through the trials that many young gay men experience, such as: recognizing the possibilities of exploitation by older gay men due to a lack of emotional and social experience creating a loyal relationship with a man that does not include sex but which satisfies emotional needs that many gay men need and long for discovering the importance of a mentor to gay youths, since there are few homosexual role models to learn from Sincere and well-written, The Mentor provides insight into everything from the author's experience with intolerance of homosexuality by certain religions to struggles with fidelity and infidelity, illustrating the difficult yet universal challenges of life relationships. The Mentor contains suggestions that will help you recognize that your feelings of desire and love and your quest for human connection as a gay man are not the distorted reflections of a heterosexual image, but a healthy gay identity. With this unique book, you will discover how to make the shift from confusion to full acceptance of your gay identity, you will understand that you are not alone, and perhaps you will be encouraged to pass on the legacy of a mentor to other young gay men.

Book excerpt: “Last Day on Mars is thrillingly ambitious and imaginative. Like a lovechild of Gravity and The Martian, it's a rousing space opera for any age, meticulously researched and relentlessly paced, that balances action, science, humor, and most importantly, two compelling main characters in Liam and Phoebe. A fantastic start to an epic new series.” —Soman Chainani, New York Times bestselling author of the School for Good and Evil series “Emerson's writing explodes off the page in this irresistible space adventure, filled with startling plot twists, diabolical aliens, and (my favorite!) courageous young heroes faced with an impossible task.” —Lisa McMann, New York Times bestselling author of the Unwanteds series It is Earth year 2213—but, of course, there is no Earth anymore. Not since it was burned to a cinder by the sun, which has mysteriously begun the process of going supernova. The human race has fled to Mars, but this was only a temporary solution while we have prepared for a second trip: a one-hundred-fifty-year journey to a distant star, our best guess at where we might find a new home. Liam Saunders-Chang is one of the last humans left on Mars. The son of two scientists who have been racing against time to create technology vital to humanity’s survival, Liam, along with his friend Phoebe, will be on the last starliner to depart before Mars, like Earth before it, is destroyed. Or so he thinks. Because before this day is over, Liam and Phoebe will make a series of profound discoveries about the nature of time and space and find out that the human race is just one of many in our universe locked in a dangerous struggle for survival.

Book excerpt: Longtime Companions: Autobiographies of Gay Male Fidelity provides a sophisticated alternative to “anything goes” gay literature. Challenging the stereotype that gay men are incapable of lasting and successful relationships, 15 long-term gay couples share slices of their own lives to give you insight into their present relationships, while some discuss life after their mates have passed on. You will find that their stories offer an inspirational and richly fulfilling alternative to an empty life of promiscuity that lacks true love. Through a treasury of autobiographical essays, Longtime Companions documents how committed gay male unions can be as enduring, nurturing, and diverse as heterosexual marriages and proves that loving commitments and life-sharing are not exclusive to heterosexual unions. A celebration of gay diversity, this book offers you insights from contributors of different ages, professions, geographic locations, and attitudes. You will learn the intimate details of the couples’lives, including: how they met their partners how soon they committed to each other how long the couples have been together--from 14 years to over 50 years their keys to leading successful, happy lives the ways in which their relationships fulfill their personal needs and contribute to community life You will come to realize the true strength of these men’s relationships as you share in their struggles within a society that offers them little recognition or support for their successful relationships. Co-editor Alfred Lees explains in the introduction to Longtime Companions, “We’ve all worked diligently to make our partnerships sound, nurturing, and enduring. We’ve done this without any social motivation, largely without role models, in the face of ‘official’disapproval or contempt. We’ve told our stories here to refute--by the simple facts of our experience--the grotesque misrepresentation of gays as being incapable of stable, committed relationships.” Will add more. . .
