Book excerpt: In recent years, the Big Bang as described by the Lambda CDM-Standard Model Cosmology has become widely accepted by majority of physics and cosmology communities. Some people even have concluded that it has no serious alternative in horizon. Is that true? First, as we argued elsewhere, Big Bang relies on singularity, so, when we are able to describe the observed data without invoking singularity, then Big Bang model is no longer required. In this paper, we explore a few alternatives other than Big Bang which most cosmologists believe is the closest to biblical account of creation. We argue that re-reading of Genesis 1:2 will lead one to another viable model, albeit it has not been developed rigorously as LCDM theories. We also briefly discuss a fluid Maxwell equations of Tsutomu Kambe based on vortex sound theory.

In their writings, many of the pioneers of the Scientific Revolution often referred to God’s two ‘Books’. These brilliant naturalists were also devout Christians. But that was back then. Is modern science actually compatible with Scripture? More to the point, are the findings of 21st-century science concordant with the Genesis creation story? What else does the text of Genesis 1-2 have to say? While making an honest effort to answer those questions, some vitally-important theological concepts (which were introduced by Moses in the first two chapters of Genesis) are also examined and discussed in this volume. This comprehensive study (on how modern science is concordant with the intended meaning of the text of Genesis 1-2) has many useful features, including the following: Much of the first two parts of the book consists of background material on: (1) logic, (2) history and philosophy of science, and (3) ‘scientific method’, as well as (4) basic geological principles, (5) descriptions of Plate Tectonic theory, and (6) the principles and methods of radiometric dating. This background material is designed to help the reader to understand the implications of the empirical evidence presented in Part Two: God’s Book of Nature. Similarly, there is also extensive material on: (1) Biblical interpretation and hermeneutics, (2) textual criticism, (3) the history of ancient Israel, (4) development of the Hebrew language, and (5) some of the basic elements of Biblical Hebrew. This material is given prior to looking at the literary structure and genre of the Genesis 1-2 text, and then conducting thorough and complete exegetical analyses of the various textual units of Genesis 1-2 in Part Four: God’s Book of Scripture. Prior to the exegetical analyses for each of the textual units of Genesis 1-2, (1) the Biblical Hebrew text, (2) a standard English translation, and (3) an Interlinear version of the text of that unit are provided. The Interlinear version consists of (a) the Hebrew text, with (b) SBL transliterations and (c) English glosses below each one of the Hebrew words. Color coding and other types of annotations/highlighting are used throughout Part Four: God’s Book of Scripture, in order to help the reader identify important Biblical Hebrew elements, including recurring phrases, important BH words, and key BHVS verb forms. There are more than 2000 detailed footnotes. Many of these footnotes also cross-reference other topics in the book to make it easier for the reader to refer back to a discussion of some important theme or concept. Excerpts from the entries of reputable Hebrew and Greek lexicons (for words written in the original languages of the Biblical text) are also footnoted. An Appendix is included with a Key to Transliteration and Pronunciation for Biblical Hebrew graphemes; it also has a short section on Biblical Hebrew Accent Markings. Numerous detailed, colored figures are sprinkled throughout the text. In many of these figures, the artwork itself is worth the inexpensive price of the digital edition of this book. Part Six: The Good News is worth reading as a stand-alone exposition of God’s Grace, but it also helps put the rest of the book in context. Although the most common (and logical) way to read A Fresh Look at Genesis 1-2 is from start to finish, this 1100-page book was also intended to be used as a reference work. Footnotes direct the reader back to pertinent material in preceding chapters that might not have been read already (or that readers might want to revisit, in order to refresh their memory on some topic). Book excerpt: For over a century, the Danish thinker Søren Kierkegaard (1813–55) has been at the center of a number of important discussions, concerning not only philosophy and theology, but also, more recently, fields such as social thought, psychology, and contemporary aesthetics, especially literary theory. Despite his relatively short life, Kierkegaard was an extraordinarily prolific writer, as attested to by the 26-volume Princeton University Press edition of all of his published writings. But Kierkegaard left behind nearly as much unpublished writing, most of which consists of what are called his "journals and notebooks." Kierkegaard has long been recognized as one of history's great journal keepers, but only rather small portions of his journals and notebooks are what we usually understand by the term “diaries.” By far the greater part of Kierkegaard’s journals and notebooks consists of reflections on a myriad of subjects—philosophical, religious, political, personal. Studying his journals and notebooks takes us into his workshop, where we can see his entire universe of thought. We can witness the genesis of his published works, to be sure—but we can also see whole galaxies of concepts, new insights, and fragments, large and small, of partially (or almost entirely) completed but unpublished works. Kierkegaard’s Journals and Notebooks enables us to see the thinker in dialogue with his times and with himself. Kierkegaard wrote his journals in a two-column format, one for his initial entries and the second for the extensive marginal comments that he added later. This edition of the journals reproduces this format, includes several photographs of original manuscript pages, and contains extensive scholarly commentary on the various entries and on the history of the manuscripts being reproduced. Volume 9 of this 11-volume series includes five of Kierkegaard’s important “NB” journals (Journals NB26 through NB30), which span from June 1852 to August 1854. This period was marked by Kierkegaard’s increasing preoccupation with what he saw as an unbridgeable gulf in Christianity—between the absolute ideal of the religion of the New Testament and the official, state-sanctioned culture of “Christendom,” which, embodied by the Danish People’s Church, Kierkegaard rejected with increasing vehemence. Crucially, Kierkegaard’s nemesis, Bishop Jakob Peter Mynster, died during this period and, in the months following, Kierkegaard can be seen moving inexorably toward the famous “attack on Christendom” with which he ended his life.

In the era of globalization and economic liberalization, the free trade applies and begins to be implemented, such as the Asian Economic Community (AEC), the inflow and outflow of food, beverage, drug and cosmetic products circulating in the world community is increasing rapidly. Indeed, the halal products circulated and traded cannot be confirmed so that they do not give a sense of peace, security, comfort, and are suitable for consumption by Muslim consumers. The circulation of various products on the market, both in the form of finished products and raw materials, especially those sourced from animals, either directly or derived from animals, has made it difficult for the Muslim community to trace the halalness of a product. People are also weak in understanding the ingredients and the production process of a food product. Thus, efforts to provide consumer protection, especially Muslim consumers, are very important and urgent. Therefore, it is the duty of the state to protect its citizens, according to the mandate of the constitution above. With this condition, the need for halal certification is getting stronger considering that Muslim consumers are increasingly critical and need certainty of the halalness of the food products they consume, both in terms of materials and production processes to packaging and distribution. For this reason, halal certification of food, beverage, drug and cosmetic products is very important. Halal certification is a necessity to provide certainty about the halalness of a product so that the rights and interests of Muslim consumers to carry out their religious sharia not to consume non-halal products will be guaranteed. This regulation on the protection of Muslim consumer rights has also been mandated in Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food. Furthermore, food safety, quality, nutrition and halal are the rights of Muslim consumers which are protected by law and become a government program in food development to meet the most important basic human needs and their fulfillment is part of the human rights of every Indonesian people.

To answer this question, 12 Christian students from St. Paul's University, Limuru, Kenya and 12 Muslim students from Eastleigh, Nairobi mapped the 12 streets of Eastleigh, a sprawling Nairobi suburb largely populated by Somali Muslims. The mapping method in the above exercise was phenomenological, that is, mapping spatiality as a 'lived experience' and interpreting spatial observations in light of individual and group existential experiences. The result of the mapping exercise was a radical transformation both in the Mappers' own self-perceptions as well as their perceptions of Christian- Muslim relations. The seven chapters in this unique book look at the above finding from different perspectives, both Christian and Muslim.

Even institutionally accepted physics is often based on theoretical imaginings involving what Sir Roger Penrose termed fashion, faith, and fantasy. Vary argues the existence of adjacent realities - the mesostratum reality and the phyiostratum reality - which when taken together may form the basis of a new physics that can explain the interplay of the transcendent, the spiritual and the material. Vary introduces the idea of the mesostratum - by means of which we may realize and crystalize unique DNA structures, exotic mathematical objects and innovative ideas. According to Vary we are spiritual beings occupying bio-physical machines that are designed to survive the uncertain, often hostile and volatile, conditions of Earth. Our survival machines are essentially hedonistic while our spirits are essentially altruistic. This results in a conflict in which the machine may prevail if the spirit is weak or concedes control. World history testifies to this ongoing conflict which persists despite human and societal evolution. Vary claims that our transcendent consciousness combines our minds in a primordial consciousness. Our transcendent consciousness is in this sense unbounded and extraterrestrial. This may not be experimentally provable. It needs to be experienced. Examples of such experiences are abundant in the cited literature. We genuinely share oneness in God and in a primordial consciousness. This oneness allows us to materialize our spirits in a vast variety of living entities. There appears to be a basic spiritual awareness in intelligent, purposeful cells and the trillions of differentiated cells that form our bodies. Indeed, we are embodied spirits living in imperfect worlds and we attempt to evolve and to perfect our species and to improve our worlds.
