The proposition is deceptively simple: people pay Ashley to act out their sexual gratifications. The variations are endless, but the work is not easy. In an eye-opening, intimate memoir, Ashley Chan, 24, reveals the inside world of Singapore's high-end escorts and the inner turmoil that comes with it. One lesson she has learned: bad things happen if you stay in the game for too long. Scarlet Harlot is written with Gerrie Lim, a veteran pop-culture writer known for his books on the sex industry.

Book excerpt: There is a subtle, yet knowable and traceable pattern throughout Scripture that reveals the big picture into which all the Torah portions, Prophets, Psalms, and New Covenant writings converge. Exercising the rules of First and Complete mention, students of the Word will find that the matriarchs of Israel hold the crimson thread leading the patriarchs back to the Land Covenant and People of Israel in these roles: Sister Virtuous Woman Or Wife Harlot Mother Daughter Adulteress Shepherdess These female roles will teach about the Holy Spirit either working or not being permitted to work in the lives of men. They will also unlock our understanding to the ambiguity of some Scriptures. On one hand, Adonai dwells in thick darkness. On the other hand, He likens darkness to evil, error, and ignorance. What is the true nature of darkness? The Torah is light, but Satan comes as an angel of light. The commandment is a lamp, but the wicked have a lamp as well. How can the reader discern the difference? The valorous woman and the harlot will teach us the answer.

Book excerpt: Within one of the Old Testament’s most famous battles lies one of the most tender love stories. Hidden within the battle of Jericho is the story of Rahab, a beautiful and brave young Canaanite woman who aided the Israelites by hanging a piece of scarlet cord from a window. This act of faith changed her life by placing her in the genealogy of Christ. Rahab is the youngest daughter of a Canaanite farmer, taken to Jericho for the pagan New Year so her father can find her a wealthy spouse. Sala, the Israelite boy who had once saved her from being kidnapped, is also in Jericho. When the two young people meet again they admit their love for one another, but their different religions make marriage impossible. Their love story plays out against the background of Jericho’s pagan rites. It is only when the One True God of Israel comes into Rahab’s life—and she realizes what He is calling her to do—that she and Sala can come together. Witness Rahab as a young woman determined to find her destiny as she follows her heart toward true love . . . and the One True God. "Wolf (A Reluctant Queen) holds our interest by skillfully conjuring up a fascinating version of Rahab’s story, successfully persuading us that the story is far more complex than merely a “scarlet cord.” —Publishers Weekly

Book excerpt: Dr. Buckley skillfully explores many of the "hidden" but powerful prophecies in the Bible. For example, he points to a prophecy in Isaiah 18 that states that a third temple will be built in Jerusalem. Referring to the story in the Book of Esther he points to a prophecy about hanging the ten sons of Haman after they had already been killed. He believes that the execution of ten top Nazis following the Nuremberg trials fulfilled that prophecy. On another subject, did you know that Satan, before his alienation from God, had a home on the planet Rahab, which was the fifth planet from the Sun in our solar system? As a result of the "war in heaven" God destroyed this planet and its remains form the asteroid belt that circles that region of the heavens. The destruction of Rahad is recorded in the Bible. His very clear Biblical exposition defangs some cherished doctrinal issues such as dispensationalism, dual covenant, restoration of Israel to its homeland, and the rapture. This book offers a fresh perspective on the Bible. John W. Buckley attended the University of Washington where he received an MBA (1962) and Ph.D. (1964). He then served as a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for thirty-five years. During those years, he authored fourteen books and monographs. His father, Edward Alexander Buckley, was a deeply spiritual man who instilled in John an abiding belief in the Bible as being the inspired Word of God. So John studied the Bible and other religious writings in depth and began to formulate the views expressed in this book. With the encouragement of relatives and friends, he has now put his thoughts in writing.

Book excerpt: What set Charles Haddon Spurgeon apart more than any of his other accomplishments was his ability behind the pulpit. Crowds gathered weekly, with visitors coming from around the world to hear the Holy Spirit pour out through his sermons. No matter the topic, modern readers would be wise to see what Spurgeon had to say. Spurgeon always made a point of directing his congregants towards Jesus Christ, and at the end of His earthly ministry the last directive Jesus gave his disciples was to go out and make disciples of all nations. In this volume Jason K. Allen has compiled some of Spurgeon’s most poignant sermons on the topic of this great commission.

Book excerpt: Volume 15 Sermons 848-907 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to republish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introducing students to current controversies over the nature of the ancient economy, this volume brings together twelve influential studies by leading experts in the field. In 1973, Moses Finley unveiled a comprehensive model of the economic underpinnings of classical civilisation. Since then, supporters and critics have turned the study of the ancient economy into what has been called 'an academic battleground'. In recent years, however, a growing number of scholars have aimed to move the debate beyond partisan controversies. This volume takes stock of these developments. Embracing a wide range of interdisciplinary perspectives derived from ecology, economics and cultural studies and drawing on literary, documentary and archaeological evidence, the contributions address crucial issues from agricultural production, the uses of money and the creation of markets to the scale of long-distance trade and economic growth in the Greek and Roman periods. In a general introduction and separate headnotes for each chapter, the editors provide a concise survey of recent debates, seeking to situate the different contributions in the broader context of contemporary scholarship. This is the first collection of its kind. It is designed to acquaint beginners as well as more advanced students with a variety of thematic and methodological approaches to the study of economic processes in the ancient world. All terms in foreign or ancient languages have been translated into English or explained in a comprehensive glossary. An up-to-date bibliographical essay covering pertinent scholarship in English offers guidance for further reading and the preparation of term papers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Group ritual has been a cornerstone of spiritual practice since time immemorial, yet its history and importance have often been overlooked by occultists of the modern age. This book is the first comprehensive presentation of group-oriented rites for modern magicians inspired by the works of Aleister Crowley. It contains rituals written by Crowley for his own magic circles, many of them unpublished during his lifetime, plus rare ancient texts that were Crowley's own inspiration. The rituals are newly edited and explained by Rodney Orpheus, who brings to this volume decades of experience in performing and teaching Aleister Crowley's rituals within Crowley's magical order Ordo Templi Orientis. He introduces each ritual with a clear overview, setting each in its historical context and explaining its function and mode of operation, and includes detailed notes on the setting and performance of each one. Whether absolute beginner or seasoned expert, magicians of all paths will find this volume to be an eminently workable and extremely powerful grimoire spanning centuries from ancient Mithraic and Bacchanalian rites, Goetia, and Gnosticism, right up to present day Crowleyan invocations and sexual magick.
