Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: $5,000 REWARD. Wanted Dead or Alive. Notorious Badman. SAM BASS, alias Sam Bushon, and Honest Eph. If sighted, immediately call the nearest U. S. Marshall's Office. After a month of moving BeeBop Publishing Group to Georgetown, Texas from Brenham, Texas, I took a ride south on IH-35 from Georgetown to Austin. I couldn't help but notice a large green and white highway sign that said Sam Bass Road. I became interested where this road went, exited, and followed it to a road sign for A. W. Grimes Boulevard. I'm not sure why, but I needed to find out who these people were just like I did when I wrote a story about the Runaway Scrape in Texas and discovered Three-Legged Willie's statue on the town square in Georgetown. As a legend, as is with all folklore, the account of Sam Bass' life is as varied as there are books written about him and his exploits in the late 1800s. Sam Bass and his gang held up two stagecoaches while in Deadwood, South Dakota in 1877. Sam had a fling with Calamity Jane and sat in the same chair Wild Bill Hickok sat before being shot in a poker game holding a Dead Man's Hand, Aces and Eights. Such a hand was said to have been held by Wild Bill Hickok, a lawman, and gunfighter and good friend of Sam Bass. In the fall of 1877, Sam Bass and his Horse Marines robbed the eastbound Union Pacific passenger train and came away with over $60,000 in twenty-dollar gold pieces. After a successful robbery, they split up into pairs and went in all directions. Some were caught. Bass was an excellent transformist and disguised himself as a poor farmer and made his way back to Denton County, Texas, with his share of the gold. In the springtime of 1878, Sam and his gang robbed four trains within twenty miles of Dallas. Word was sent to Governor Hubbard that something needed to be done. The bandits became the object of a spirited chase across North Texas by reward-seeking citizens and a specialized company of Texas Rangers headed by Junius Peak. Follow the life story of Sam Bass from his childhood days to his last days in Round Rock, Texas, on July 21, 1878. Even though this notorious outlaw spent less than a week in this small community, his short visit put the town on world atlases. He also had a major street named after him. It wasn't only a few years ago the community got together and named a boulevard after Deputy A. W. Grimes, the man Sam Bass was accused of killing in 1878. Unlike John Wesley Hardin, Bass had no notches on his gun handle and once joked about selling his revolver for money.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive collection of folk hero tales builds on the success of the first edition by providing readers with expanded contextual information on story characters from the Americas to Zanzibar. Despite the tremendous differences between cultures and ethnicities across the world, all of them have folk heroes and heroines—real and imagined—that have been represented in tales, legends, songs, and verse. These stories persist through time and space, over generations, even through migrations to new countries and languages. This encyclopedia is a one-stop source for broad coverage of the world's folk hero tales. Geared toward high school and early college readers, the book opens with an overview of folk heroes and heroines that provides invaluable context and then presents a chronology. The book is divided into two main sections: the first provides entries on the major types and themes; the second addresses specific folk tale characters organized by continent with folk hero entries organized alphabetically. Each entry provides cross references as well as a list of further readings. Continent sections include a bibliography for additional research. The book concludes with an alphabetical list of heroes and an index of hero types.

Book excerpt: The Storm Lord Trilogy Box Set (The Complete Series Books 1-3): An Epic Paranormal Romance "When it is time for two souls to meet, there's not one single thing on earth which can prevent them from getting together, no matter where each are located, even if it comes in the form of a black panther that's 200 years old!" Book 1: The Flaming Blue Sword Angelica Thompson, an award-winning romance novelist, decides to end her turbulent relationship back home in Denver and heads to a secluded spot on the shores of Black Rock Cove in Oregon. Writer's block is preventing her from finishing her last novel in her paranormal romance series and is being pressured by her publisher, BeeBop Publishing, to finish by the end of the summer. She discovered the first night of her arrival how vividly her mind's thoughts and dreams came alive. Her imagination of a dead sea captain, a black panther pouncing on her for his evening meal, and falling to her death in a cove hundreds of feet below are only the beginning. Janie, a local real estate agent, awakens the young woman in her cottage. Was she awakened during a dream or… could it be real? Book 2: Nine Months Will Tell Continuation of the Storm Lord Trilogy in Chapter Two finds Angelica Thompson and Sheriff Kevin Connors expecting their first child. Her pregnancy comes as a surprise to her and Kevin because it is precisely nine months after their defeat of Ethan Knight in Chapter One of the Storm Lord Trilogy series. The question now that arises for the two love-birds is whether the Storm Lord lost his life in their final battle in the first of the series or did he, somehow, survive the epic encounter. Throughout the book, significant events taking place appear to threaten the life of Angel's first child. Is she too old, past the age of 39, to give birth? She wonders if it's just her age. Is there a problem with her child? Book 3: The Three Keys to Armageddon For this final chapter in the Storm Lord Trilogy Series, love must begin between a human and a supernatural being. This happens. The hero, the human character in this novel, is put into some kind of danger, where they come to realize they can overcome this danger either on their own or with the assistance of the supernatural love interest! Using the rich background of the spiritual world of Archangels Michael and his Sword of Angels and Gabriel with his trumpet of victory as the background, Sidney St. James' Storm Lord Trilogy Series pursues the return of Satan himself with a paranormal world of evil versus good filled with fascinating characters. The ever-moving series' sharp dialogue, highly original plotlines, and a stylistic flair are as rhythmic and vibrant as his earlier works. Through James' fertile imagination, these three novels in the series are provocative, confrontational, and contain highly ingenious twists and turn into the unexpected, but always with a healthy dose of humor, not to mention romance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine fishes have been intensively studied, and some of the fundamental ideas in the science of marine ecology have emerged from the body of knowledge derived from this diverse group of organisms. This unique, authoritative, and accessible reference, compiled by 35 luminary ecologists, evolutionary biologists, and ichthyologists, provides a synthesis and interpretation of the large, often daunting, body of information on the ecology of marine fishes. The focus is on the fauna of the eastern Pacific, especially the fishes of the California coast, a group among the most diverse and best studied of all marine ecosystems. A generously illustrated and comprehensive source of information, this volume will also be an important launching pad for future research and will shed new light on the study of marine fish ecology worldwide. The contributors touch on many fields in biology, including physiology, development, genetics, behavior, ecology, and evolution. The book includes sections on the history of research, both published and unpublished data, sections on collecting techniques, and references to important earlier studies.
