Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rupert Brooke: A Memoir I feel that an apology is due to those Who have been looking for some time for a Memoir of my son. The chief reason for the delay has been my great desire to gain the collaboration of some of his con temporaries at Cambridge and during his young manhood, for I believe strongly that they knew the largest part of him. Up to now it has been found impossible to do this, much as I should have Wished it; and as Since his death many of them have also laid down their lives, there is 'no longer any hope of doing so in the future. I have therefore consented to the Memoir coming out now, although it is of necessity incomplete. I cannot speak strongly enough of the ability and loving care that Mr Marsh has given to the work. Download or read book The Georgian Poets written by Lynn Parker and published by Northcote House Pub Limited. This book was released on 1999 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Georgian movement in literature began as a reaction against late Victorian sensibilities, but world events soon turned this nascent movement upside down, killing two of its most famous members and dispersing the rest amidst a harsher intellectual climate. This introductory study helps to set the Georgians in their original context, and revises the critical balance in favour of three lesser known writers whose contribution to early twentieth-century letters was viewed as significant before the 1930s. The author makes use of archive sources and reviews as wellas recent historicist accounts, bringing these engaging, mysterious and humane writers into focus for the present time.

Download or read book Letters from America written by Rupert Brooke and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2015-02-09 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1931, this is a collection of travel essays by the English poet Rupert Brooke. We are republishing this work with a brand new introductory biography of the author with the aim of placing it in the context of his other writings. The following passage is an extract from the book's introduction: 'The author started in May 1913 on a journey to the United States, Canada, and the South Seas, from which he returned next year at the beginning of June. The first thirteen chapters of this book were written as letters to the Westminster Gazette. He would probably not have republished them in their present form, as he intended to write a longer book on his travels; but they are now printed with only the correction of a few evident slips.'
