Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Running Out of Time: Chasing Red, White, and Blue (Color Interior) By: Robert Prah, Jr. Originally created for his daughter to detail his run for public office, Running Out of Time: Chasing Red, White, and Blue chronicles this pursuit by Robert Prah, Jr. during a very challenging time in a district that has been historically “blue” forever. It details his personal story of running for the Pennsylvania state legislature and all of the challenges that he faced, especially from previous relationships and social media. It talks about being the “underdog” running against a lifelong Democrat-turned-Republican, where, according to many polls, Prah was favored to win the special election. The author also highlights how several committee members, past candidates and elected officials have changed their political affiliation in recent years. This story is interesting in the sense that Prah ran in three elections (Special Election in March 2020, Primary in June 2020, General in November 2020) all during a global pandemic. It shares the ups and downs of running for office and how the pandemic and social media impacted the outcome of many races in November 2020. The author hopes that readers take away that social media has had an impact on our lives, both positive and negative, and especially in politics and elections. We tend to not look at candidates individually, but rather as a “D” or an “R.” We need to do a better job of evaluating candidates and asking questions rather than what we see on social media.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1930 to 1968, General Motors sponsored a 1:12 scale model automobile design competition for youth--the famous Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild. Each year thousands of boys and young men from across America competed for scholarships by designing, building, and submitting a scale model of their own "dream car," to be judged on such qualities as design originality and craftsmanship. A public relations bonanza for GM, the program helped to identify and nurture a generation of future leaders in design engineering, automotive design, automotive styling, industrial design and other endeavors. In these essays, more than 30 Guildsmen chronicle their experiences in the competition, revealing their model car design techniques, tricks, and secrets: Philip J. Rauth, Joseph R. Rauth, Herman I. Rauth, Roger D. Teter, Gordon D. Williams, William A. Keyser, Jr., Warren M. Bakken, Wilfred C. Keagy, Arnold L. Joslin, Raymond P. Wykes, Charles R. Foreman, Adrian A. Bruno, Charles H. With no clue how to find their way back home, the siblings attempt to navigate life in a period of history they’ve only ever read about. Each jump in time takes them to a more foreign and ancient place in the world’s timeline, causing the twins to doubt whether they will ever see their home again. In the present, Professor Quinn Delaney struggles to complete his work, to have any chance of bringing his children back from the past, but he runs into serious complications of his own. Richard, meanwhile, remains a man fueled by a feverish desire to take everything from Quinn, including rekindling the spark once shared with Quinn’s wife, Sandra. But just how far will Richard go to ensure his devious plan succeeds? As the Delaney family will soon discover, a once close family friend has unexpectedly become an unstoppable adversary. From the author that brought you LOST IN TIME comes the second journey in the NEXT TIME trilogy, RUNNING OUT OF TIME. Allow yourself to be transported into the past as the Delaney family attempt to fight their way back to each other.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Journal of the Molly B is my personal diary of the building of my dream. The building of a boat is a simple idea but in practice is more like a labor of love, which exceeds all expectations. The task is at times an overwhelming undertaking, which is reminiscent of the insignificance one feels in the middle of that vast and seemingly endless expanse of water, called an ocean, you feel so small and so alone. You at times feel as though it's an impossible task. Without the knowledge or experience, to solve the many problems that arise as you proceed along your course toward the completion of your vessel, you are constantly reminded of your shortcomings. I can assure you, it is not an impossible task! It took me 12 years but the Molly B is finally in the water and fulfilling our dream of living on the water. It's well worth the time and effort but you'll never finish it if you don't get started, you just have to take that first step and go for it.

The story begins in his early teen years which were full of drugs and destruction, and moves on to his successes in high school, and the trials of college life. But how did he end up inside the Illinois Shawnee Correctional Center? He is now an adult living in the Chicago area. He is divorced; he is a father; he is a college graduate; he is an ex-convict. He was sentenced to eight years inside the penitentiary, sharing an eight by ten foot cell with a man who was serving time for first-degree murder and strong-armed robbery. Worse, he was sentenced to those eight years for DUI convictions. His dreams came crashing down around him. He is now working through the toughest battle of all...how to live the life that he has created for himself. Inside a medium-maximum penitentiary in Illinois, hundreds of miles away from the people he loves, he had to seek forgiveness and come to terms with all that he had done. This is his life...this is his story.

Book excerpt: Phoenix O'Halloran, Red to her friends, is a brash, in your face journalist who always gets her story. Having long ago lost touch with her emotions, except righteous indignation, she now has a very strange problem. Her subconscious has acquired a voice of its own. It's insisting it’s an extraterrestrial alien who needs her help. Not only that, he's her mate. Long ago Trian was a member of a team aboard a galactic defense spaceship, sent to stop an invasion of Earth. An unsavory group of demonic aliens wanted Earth for its mineral resources. They had no qualms about removing any obstacles in their way, planets, civilizations and anyone sent to stop them. It didn’t go well for Earth’s defenders. Immortal yet frozen in stone they had no choice except to wait out the eons. An ancient prophecy told that only through the compassion of spiritually evolved humans would each of them be freed. And there’s the first problem. Phoenix knows she wouldn’t know compassion if she fell over it. She certainly isn’t spiritually evolved. Though she now lives in Boswell and she has had the retrovirus to repair her DNA she still can’t do anything like the others around her. She can’t telepath, except with the one voice in her head, she can’t teleport and she’s shown no sign of any other special skills. She’s the least likely person to help Trian yet it appears fate has decreed she’s the one. Then there’s the other problem. The stone that is currently Trian is holding up the side of a mountain. If that mountain side falls...

Book excerpt: The Phenomenology of Internal Time-Consciousness is a translation of Edmund Husserl’s Vorlesungen zur Phänomenologie des inneren Zeitbewußtseins. The first part of the book was originally presented as a lecture course at the University of Göttingen in the winter semester of 1904–1905, while the second part is based on additional supplementary lectures that he gave between 1905 and 1910. In these essays and lectures, Husserl explores the terrain of consciousness in light of its temporality. He identifies two categories of temporality—retention and protention—and outlines how temporality provides the form for perception, phantasy, imagination, memory, and recollection. He demonstrates a distinction between cosmic and phenomenological time and explores the relevance of phenomenological time for the constitution of temporal objects. The ideas Husserl developed here are explored further in his Ideas and were pursued until the end of his philosophical career.
