Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thought-provoking, controversial examination for His glory, not my own. The Devil is taking over the church, our home, our family, and our nation. The world is trying to be the church, and the church is trying to be the world. If we could only stop trying to be looked upon as gods and come under servitude unto the highest God, then evil may tremble. If we could just get our heads out of the clouds, we might end up doing some earthly good. The Devil said, Paul I know, Jesus I know, but who are you? We were never called to this walk of faith to fabricate untruths. We serve a living God; people deserve answers to their questions, not for them to be swept under a rug or brushed off. Neither should anyone feel unchristian because of their questions. A believer asked me, "Why didn't I fall out when I was prayed for?

Book excerpt: This book shows that in today’s business world managers can only successfully lead with the active cooperation and consent of their staff. It presents a practical, four-pronged approach to successful management, drawing on the authors’ combined research, consulting and managerial experience in more than twenty countries. Once a manager gets the four main ingredients right – (1) getting things under control; (2) establishing expectations; (3) running interference; and (4) developing people – everything else falls into place. Far from being unpleasant and stressful, managing others becomes rewarding and even fun. The book concludes by explaining how to use the four ingredients to ensure that your own manager is also managing you effectively. “If you have time for only one management book in your life, Management by Permission would be an outstanding choice.” Greg Thompson, President, Markel Specialty "In this readable and practical book the authors spell out the key challenges facing managers and how they can address them. The central question is how you win permission to manage – in straightforward language this book shows you how." Rob Goffee, Emeritus Professor, London Business School “A page-turner ... a strong candidate for ‘Management Book of the Year.’” Professor Stephen J. Perkins, Dean, London Guildhall Faculty of Business & Law “A ‘must read’ for anyone on the line management ladder.” Dr Janine-Nicole Desai, Regional HR Director, Hilton Worldwide

Book excerpt: This work examines the experience of women providing care to children, disabled persons, the chronically ill, and the frail elderly. It differs from most writing about caregiving because it focuses on the providers rather than the care recipients. It looks at the experience of women caregivers in specific settings, exploring what caregiving actually entails and what it means in their lives

Book excerpt: Cody Everett has a temper as hot as the inside of a combustion chamber, and it’s landed him at his uncle’s trailer, a last-chance home before military school. But how can he take the guy seriously when he calls himself Race, eats Twinkies for breakfast, and pals around with rednecks who drive in circles every Saturday night? The last thing Cody expects is for Race to become the friend and mentor he’s been looking for all his life. But just as he begins to settle in and get a handle on his supercharged temper, a crisis sends his life spinning out of control. Everything he’s come to care about is threatened, and he’s forced to choose between falling back on his old, familiar anger or stepping up to prove his loyalty to the only person he’s ever dared trust. Named one of BookBub’s “6 Seriously Awesome YA Books Even Adults Can Get Into” and praised by teachers as perfect for reluctant readers, Running Wide Open is a feel-good story you’ll remember long after you finish the last page. Great for fans of Chris Crutcher, Laurie Halse Anderson, and John Green. “Nowak capably depicts a realistic, likable teenager with typical teenager flaws.... An endearing story about a teenager, his mentor, and what a difference true, unselfish love can make.” ~ Kirkus Reviews “The roar of engines practically explodes off the page in this compelling, heart-thumping debut. Cody Everett is a straight-shooter with attitude, smarts, and whip-cracking wit; he doesn't pull any punches, and neither does author Lisa Nowak. The collision of Cody and the world of stock car racing makes for a great story, one of the best I've read in a long time. Running Wide Open is a book not to be missed.” ~ Christine Fletcher, author of Tallulah Falls and Ten Cents a Dance “I thoroughly enjoy Lisa Nowak’s books and have especially enjoyed using her Full Throttle series in working with my students. The characters are all so believable and definitely relatable to adolescents. I find that the lessons they learn are valuable and at times similar to things my students are dealing with. In one student's case, I was able to draw from situations in the books to use as comparisons and possible solutions. It was great to not have to ‘lecture.’” ~ Linda Ryan, School Counselor, Londonderry H.S. Book 1 in the Full Throttle Series

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Don't be fooled. At first glance, he is just another middle-class fourteen-year-old. But on closer inspection, Wendall is so much more. He's naive, sheltered, and insecure. Fortunately, he discovers a cure for his youthful shortcomings. He cannot control his curiosity. No matter how embarrassing, Wendall must know why people think, feel, say, and do sometimes-crazy things. During a span of four inquisitive years, his view of the world is transformed by a colorful cast of small-town characters. Some are mentors; others are tormentors. However, each is a specialist who thoroughly comprehends a specific facet of human nature: happiness, manipulation, and saying no, to list only a few. But Wendall isn't just a passive student. He gets his hands dirty when his father transplants the family to a rundown farm. Our nosey hero then battles a sadistic psychopath, gets cheated by a con man, and talks a best friend back from a botched suicide attempt. Mentors and Tormentors is not another predictable, coming-of-age story. It is an instruction manual detailing how to handle yourself and other people. Wendall's adventures add some fun and entertainment, which balance and reinforce the seriousness of the lessons. Think of this book as a collection of modern fables with each chapter having a specific, applicable message. But unlike Aesop's fables, these truths don't stand alone. They coalesce and reveal the secret to enjoying life with complete peace of mind. Mentors and Tormentors is Tim Jones's first literary work. The lessons and characters are loosely based on his own experiences and those of thousands of emergency room patients. Dr. Jones's thirty years of experiencing their humanity have made him uniquely qualified to write this book. His objective is to make readers laugh and learn. Laugh at Wendall's missteps and learn his lessons the easy way. To learn more visit www.mentorsandtormentors.com

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A gift-worthy playbook of common and unexpected words and idioms that have their roots in sports and games. There are many metaphors we can quickly identify from the realm of sports: covering all the bases (baseball), game plan (football), and par for the course (golf). But the English language is also peppered with the not-so-obvious influence of sports and games, such as go-to guy (basketball) and dead ringer (horse racing). Filled with pithy entries on each idiom, plus quotes showing how big talkers from President Obama to rapper Ice-T use them, this quirky little handbook from former minor league ballplayer and award-winning journalist Josh Chetwynd is sure to be a conversation starter at tailgates, cocktail parties, and in the boardroom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our sins have made a barrier between God and us (Isaiah 59:2). Sins leave us without the knowledge of what true peace is and what it means to act justly before God. Because of this, we stay in darkness, even though Jesus is the Light. In the darkness we grope like blind men and stumble in broad daylight. We moan and groan for the blessings of God, but our sins testify against us. Sin is disobedience to God. Even though Jesus died for these sins, if we remain in them, then we reject the Light. Our rejection of the Light is what causes the barriers between us and God. This book, Intercession That Breaks the Sound Barrier, gives several instances of what Jesus says invites the darkness and the redemptive voice that breaks them. Sounding the sounds of intercession is like putting on the robe of vengeance as armor. It is putting on the work of Jesus Himself to glorify God our Father. It is reverence for God in the name of God--it is Jehovah's breath. "And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, 'Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Whosesoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosesoever sins ye retain, they are retained" (John 20:22-23). It would be a mistake to speak of any earthly author for this book. It was written only as the breath of Jehovah breathed, and not of man's ability. To Him be all the glory and praise. Amen

Her life was anything but normal and she couldn’t always see the danger coming from those lurking in the shadows, around the corner or the situations she was forced to struggle alone. She survived the worst or so she thought, never realizing that being “Born Scared” would be the one thing that could save her. Stephanie would learn to fight her trapped and horrid childhood with the evil that loomed within her family walls that no child should ever have to endure. After that it was up to her to fight the world, the fears that came with it, and the many evils that were thrust upon her along the way. Without understanding why, she would soon learn that her childhood experiences were nothing compared to what she would be up against living “Among the Guilty”. After a particularly exhausting year with the Yada Yada Prayer Group, all Jodi Baxter wants is a break. She even asks God for a little “dull and boring” in the new year. Instead she finds that when you’re open to His plans, life is unpredictable—in the best and hardest ways. Jodi’s life is suddenly full of changes, and they can be described as anything but boring. Out of all the Yada Yadas, God has Leslie “Stu” Stuart move into the Baxter’s upstairs flat, which requires a lot of patience—and tongue-biting—on Jodi’s part. She’s continually unnerved by guilt stemming from the accident and dreads the day when she comes face-to-face with Hakim’s mother. Plus, Bandana Woman, who was safely locked up in prison, has returned. Phew! Through prayer and friendship, the Yada Yadas are getting real. Dull and boring? Not a chance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The specialized jargon of some sports can be quite esoteric. Non-Americans, for example, are likely puzzled by baseball terms such as bunt, cut-off man, and safety squeeze, while the non-British may pause over cricket's Chinaman, doosra, golden duck, off-break, popping crease, and yorker. This new dictionary gives the definitions of more than 8,000 terms used in sports and games from around the world, including mainstream sports like basketball and billiards alongside the more obscure netball and snooker. Entries cover sports equipment, strategies, venues, qualifying categories, awards, and administrative bodies, while a comprehensive system of cross-references offers assistance and clarification when needed. An appendix lists standard abbreviations of sports ruling bodies and administrative organizations.
