Book Synopsis Uses of Recycled Rubber Tires in Highways by : Jon A. Epps
Download or read book Uses of Recycled Rubber Tires in Highways written by Jon A. Epps and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1994 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis on the use of recycled rubber tires in highways will be of interest to administrators and policy-makers; pavement, materials, geotechnical, environmental, and traffic operations engineers; and research engineers involved with highway design and construction issues. Information is provided on the uses of rubber tires in asphalt paving materials as well as other uses, such as on fills and embankments, for erosion control and on railroad grade crossings. Specifically, information is included which identifies the agencies using or implementing applications for recycled rubber tires and defines the design parameters, technical and construction limitations, performance, costs, benefits, environmental limitations, specifications, and availability. This synthesis of information defines the use of recycled rubber tires in highways and is based on a review of nearly 500 references and on information recorded from state highway agency responses to a 1991 survey of practice. Updates are included for as much of the state practice information possible through 1993. The use of scrap tires for highway applications is dynamic with regard to policy and technical issues. Therefore, the reader should keep in mind that the information presented reflects the best available data at a particular time. The synthesis also identifies current research in the topic area, critical research needs, and legislative issues that affect application and use of recycled rubber tires.

Book Synopsis Science and Technology of Rubber by : James E. Mark
Download or read book Science and Technology of Rubber written by James E. Mark and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-07-28 with total page 762 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Science and Technology of Rubber, Third Edition provides a broad survey of elastomers with special emphasis on materials with a rubber-like elasticity. As in the 2nd edition, the emphasis remains on a unified treatment of the material; exploring topics from the chemical aspects such as elastomer synthesis and curing, through recent theoretical developments and characterization of equilibrium and dynamic properties, to the final applications of rubber, including tire engineering and manufacturing. Many advances have been made in polymer and elastomers research over the past ten years since the 2nd edition was published. Updated material stresses the continuous relationship between the ongoing research in synthesis, physics, structure and mechanics of rubber technology and industrial applications. Special attention is paid to recent advances in rubber-like elasticity theory and new processing techniques for elastomers. This new edition is comprised of 20% new material, including a new chapter on environmental issues and tire recycling.

This book was released on 1998 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mixture design and performance characteristics of crumb rubber modified asphalt concretes were investigated in this research project to meet the requirements of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) of 1991, which has required each State to incorporate scrap tire rubber into its asphalt paving materials. Specifically, the objectives of this research encompass the following: (i) investigation of the rheological properties of asphalt-rubber binder to determine optimum content of crumb rubber; (ii) development of optimum mix design for various applications, including both wet and dry mix processes; (iii) characterization of mechanical properties of recommended paving mixtures, including resilient modulus, fatigue cracking behavior, low-temperature thermal cracking resistance, water sensitivity test, incremental creep test and loaded wheel track test; and (iv) comparison of performance of selected paving mixes.

Download or read book Crumb Rubber Modifier written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Section 1038 of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA) contains provisions for each State to begin incorporating scrap tire rubber into their asphalt paving materials. A workshop was developed through the cooperation of highway agencies and the asphalt industry to discuss present procedures and practices for designing and constructing asphalt pavements which incorporate scrap tire rubber (crumb rubber modifier). These workshop notes were prepared from the proceedings of the 13 workshop sessions.
Book Synopsis Polymerized Crumb Rubber Modified Mixtures in Minnesota by :
Download or read book Polymerized Crumb Rubber Modified Mixtures in Minnesota written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research program was based on laboratory and field studies. All work was limited to the use of a 10-mesh crumb rubber in the dry process. An evaluation of the asphalt-rubber interactions indicated that there should be a reasonable level of interaction between the crumb rubber and the asphalt cement selected for the project. A suggested criterion for defining an acceptable level of interaction would be to establish a minimum viscosity of 15 Poise (Brookfield viscosity) for a neat asphalt cement modified with 20% crumb rubber. When designing a crumb rubber modified mixture, the aggregate gradation should be substantially gapped. The target gradation used in the construction of the Babbit, Minnesota test sections should be adjusted for crumb rubber gradations volumetrically; generally, 1 gram of crumb rubber occupies the same volume as 3 grams of aggregate for a given sieve size. The optimum asphalt content for crumb rubber mixtures should be based on air voids from 1.5 to 3%.

Book Synopsis Fabrics in Asphalt Overlays and Pavement Maintenance by : Richard D. Barksdale
Download or read book Fabrics in Asphalt Overlays and Pavement Maintenance written by Richard D. Barksdale and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to pavement designers, maintenance engineers, and others interested in methods and procedures for reducing reflection cracking of asphalt overlays. Information is provided on the use of paving fabrics and membranes in pavement rehabilitation. Reflection cracking of pavement overlays results in decreased pavement performance with respect to ride quality, structural support, skid resistance, and safety. The use of fabrics is one of the alternatives that are available to reduce or delay reflection cracking. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the experiences of agencies in the use of fabrics and membranes for reduction of reflection cracking.
