Book excerpt: For those of us who are afraid we don't have what it takes to face our fears on our own, this story reminds us we have the skills and power to do so no matter how big and scary the problem, or monster, is. Most people think martial arts are for self-defense. While this is true, the art of Jiu-Jitsu also teaches us to have respect for ourselves and others. With this mutual respect, we can, through our actions, learn from one another. In this story, a child remembers how to use Jiu-Jitsu she knows to face her bedtime fear of monsters being under the bed. In so doing she remembers the real reason she learned this martial art, gains new friends through earning their respect, and teaches them the right way to go to sleep.

When children played, there would be two parents watching, throwing a ball around, joking or sitting around the picnic table. Well, when I was a little child toddling around, what I remember most is my time with my family in Florida: my Mom, my Dad, my sister Chris and my brother Mike. Family to me, at that time, meant having both parents around. I believe one of our favorite places to go was Clearwater, Florida. My aunt Fran and Uncle Al lived on an outlet of Clearwater Bay, a few blocks away from the Gulf of Mexico. My dad would often take us fishing off my uncles dock. Uncle Al had a boat that we would ride around in as well, and he would let us drive it, but under adult supervision of course! Mom and Aunt Fran would stay back and either clean the fish which we caught (a dirty job nobody wanted) or just watch us having fun. Mom always liked being outdoors near the water. Along with boating and fishing, we loved looking at the barnacles that attached to the walls around the bay area and around the posts holding up the dock. Mom seemed to be the one most fascinated with these small and disfigured little creatures. She and the rest of us seemed to enjoy watching these creatures just to pass the time of day.

Book excerpt: Primer on Flat Rolling is a fully revised second edition, and the outcome of over three decades of involvement with the rolling process. It is based on the author's yearly set of lectures, delivered to engineers and technologists working in the rolling metal industry. The essential and basic ideas involved in designing and analysis of the rolling process are presented. The book discusses and illustrates in detail the three components of flat rolling: the mill, the rolled metal, and their interface. New processes are also covered; flexible rolling and accumulative roll-bonding. The last chapter contains problems, with solutions that illustrate the complexities of flat rolling. New chapters include a study of hot rolling of aluminum, contributed by Prof. M. Wells; advanced applications of the finite element method, by Dr. Yuli Liu and by Dr. G. Krallics; roll design by Dr. J. B. Tiley and the history of the development of hot rolling mills, written by Mr. D. R. Adair and E. B. Intong. Engineers, technologists and students can all use this book to aid their planning and analysis of flat rolling processes. Book excerpt: In this New York Times bestseller, Rolling Stone founder, co-editor, and publisher Jann Wenner offers a "touchingly honest" and "wonderfully deep" memoir from the beating heart of classic rock and roll (Bruce Springsteen). Jann Wenner has been called by his peers “the greatest editor of his generation.” His deeply personal memoir vividly describes and brings you inside the music, the politics, and the lifestyle of a generation, an epoch of cultural change that swept America and beyond. The age of rock and roll in an era of consequence, what will be considered one of the great watersheds in modern history. Wenner writes with the clarity of a journalist and an essayist. He takes us into the life and work of Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Bono, and Bruce Springsteen, to name a few. He was instrumental in the careers of Hunter S. Thompson, Tom Wolfe, and Annie Leibovitz. His journey took him to the Oval Office with his legendary interviews with Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, leaders to whom Rolling Stone gave its historic, full-throated backing. From Jerry Garcia to the Dalai Lama, Aretha Franklin to Greta Thunberg, the people Wenner chose to be seen and heard in the pages of Rolling Stone tried to change American culture, values, and morality. Like a Rolling Stone is a beautifully written portrait of one man’s life, and the life of his generation.

This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hot rolling technology is the most widely used method of shaping metals and is particularly important in the manufacture of steel for use in construction and other industries. In metalworking, rolling is a metal forming process in which metal stock is passed through a pair of rolls. Rolling is classified according to the temperature of the metal rolled. If the temperature of the metal is above its re crystallization temperature, then the process is termed as hot rolling. The hot mills using plain rolls were already being employed by the end of the seventeenth century. But the industrial revolution in the nineteenth century saw a new horizon in steel making process, with the considerably expanded markets for rods, rails and structural section, provided further impetus to the development of hot rolling. The basic use of hot rolling mills is to shape up the larger pieces of billets and slabs into narrow and desired forms. These metal pieces are heated over their re crystallization temperature and are then moved between the rollers so as to form thinner cross sections. Hot rolling mill thus helps in reducing the size of a metal thereby molding it into the desired form and shape. Rolling mills perform the function to reform the metal pieces such as billet and ingot whilst maintaining its well equipped micro structure into bar, wire, sheet, strip, and plate. Hot rolled products are frequently categorized into plain carbon, alloy, high strength alloy, dual phase, electrical and stainless steels. This book provides a descriptive illustration of pre treatment of hot metal, the basic principles of heat treatment, types of hot rolled products, principles of measurement of rolling parameters, steel making refractories, performance characteristics of transducers, causes of gauge variation , main factors affecting gauge performance, gauge control sensors and actuators, automatic gauge control systems, strip tension control system in cold mills, flat rolling practice cold rolling, pack rolling, steelmaking refractories, refining of stainless steels, special considerations in refining stainless steels etc. This book is a unique compilation and it draws together in a single source technical principles of steel making by hot rolling process up to the finished product. This handbook will be very helpful to its readers who are just beginners in this field and will also find useful for upcoming entrepreneurs, engineers, personnel responsible for the operation of hot rolling mills, existing industries, technologist, technical institution etc. TAGS Steel Hot Rolling, Hot Rolling of Steel, Metal Rolling, Metal Forming Process, Steel Rolling Process, Metalworking, Flat Rolling Fundamentals, Physical Metallurgy, Hot Rolled Steel, Rolling Mills, Pre-Treatment of Hot Metal, Heat Treatments for Hot-Rolled Products, Steelmaking Refractories, Refining of Stainless Steels, Steel Heating for Hot Rolling, Oxygen Steelmaking Processes, Best small and cottage scale industries, Business guidance for steel rolling industry, Business Plan for a Startup Business, Business plan for steel rolling mill, Business start-up, Fusion welding processes, Great Opportunity for Startup, Hot rolled steel properties, Hot rolling mill process, Hot Rolling Mill, Hot Rolling mill, Hot Strip Mill, How is Steel Produced, How to Start a Steel Production Business, How to start a successful steel rolling business, How to start steel mill industry, How to Start Steel rolling Industry in India, How to start steel rolling mill, Indian Steel Industry, Industrial steel rolling mill, Modern small and cottage scale industries, Modern steel making technology, Most Profitable Steel Business Ideas, New small scale ideas in Steel rolling industry, Opportunity Steel Rolling Mill, Plate Mill, Process & Applications, Process of steelmaking, Profitable small and cottage scale industries, Progress and Prospect of Rolling Technology, Project for startups, Rod and Bar Rolling, Rod and bar rolling, Rolling Metalworking, Rolling Mill for Steel Bars, Rolling process, Setting up and opening your steel rolling Business, Small scale Commercial steel rolling business, Small Scale Steel rolling Projects, Small Start-up Business Project, Start a Rolling Mill Industry, Start steel rolling mill in India, Start up India, Stand up India, Starting a Steel Business, Starting a Steel rolling Business, Starting Steel Mini Mill, Start-up Business Plan for steel rolling, Startup Project for steel rolling business, Startup project plan, Startup Project, Steel and hot rolling Business, Steel Based Profitable Projects, Steel Based Small Scale Industries Projects, Steel business plan, Steel hot rolling process, Steel Industry in India, Steel making and rolling, Steel making Projects, Steel making technology, Steel Making, Steel manufacturing process, Steel mill process, Steel mill, Steel production process, Steel rerolling mill feasibility start up, Steel rolling Industry in India, Steel rolling machine factory, Steel rolling mill industry demand, Steel rolling mill industry overview, Steel rolling mill industry, Steel rolling mill market forecast, Steel rolling mill market growth, Steel rolling mill market, Steel rolling mill size, Steel rolling mill starts production, Steel rolling mill, Steel Rolling Technology, Steelmaking, Steelmaking Processes, Types of rolling mills

Book excerpt: An investigation was made to determine the effect of rolling temperature, roll pass design, amount of reduction, and heat treatment before and after rolling on the anisotropic growth rate of uranium under irradiation. The growth rate was found to increase with decreasing rolling temperature and with increasing reduction of area at 300 deg C. The rate of elongation was proportional to the amount of (010) component present or, where shortening occurred, to the amount of (100) component. Oval-edge-oval roll passes resulted in somewhat higher irradiation growth rates than did round roll passes. Recrystallization after rolling effectively reduced the irradiation growth rate of uranium rolled at temperatures of 500 deg C and lower. Irradiation caused length shortening in uranium which was beta quenched after being round-rolled at temperatures of 400 deg C and above, and which was beta quenched after being oval- rolled at temperatures of 300 deg C and above.

Wiggins and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was performed in the Langley high-speed 7- by 10-foot tunnel in order to determine the rolling derivatives for swept-wing-body configurations at angles of attack from 0 degrees to 13 degrees and at high subsonic Mach numbers. The wings had sweep angles of 3.6 degrees, 32.6 degrees, 45 degrees, and 60 degrees at the quarter-chord line, an aspect ratio of 4, a taper ratio of 0.6, and an NACA 65A006 airfoil section parallel to the free stream. The results indicate a reduction in the damping-in-roll derivative at the higher test angles of attack. Of the wings tested, instability of the damping-in-roll derivative was experienced over the largest ranges of angle of attack and Mach number for the 32.6 sweptback wing.
