Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requires that designated financial institutions implement and maintain anti-money laundering (AML) programs. Tribal casinos have been designated as financial institutions under the BSA since 1996, and the BSA regulations issued by the Treasury Department in 31 C.F.R. 103.64 prescribe the minimum standards for those programs. All tribal governments conducting or sponsoring gaming activities - whether for one night out of the year or throughout the year, whether in their primary place of operation or at remote sites - must be aware of the federal requirements associated with the Bank Secrecy Act. This workbook will allow the casino compliance officer to conduct and write a formal risk assessment that can serve as the basis for the casino's AML program.

Download or read book The New Politics of Indian Gaming written by Kenneth N. Hansen and published by University of Nevada Press. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of gaming on Indian reservations has created a new kind of tribal politics over the past three decades. Now armed with often substantial financial resources, Indigenous peoples have adjusted their political strategies from a focus on the judicial system and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) to one that directly lobbies state and federal governments and non-Indigenous voters. These tactics allow tribes to play an influential role in shaping state and national policies that affect their particular interests. Using case studies of major Indian gaming states, the contributing authors analyze the interplay of tribal governance, state politics, and federalism, and illustrate the emergence of reservation governments as political power brokers.

Book excerpt: The Impact of the Three Land Based Indian Casinos in Louisiana is a study on how the surrounding communities are affected. Louisiana's Indian tribes were devastated by war and prejudice. For decades these tribes had to depend on others; now through Indian gaming they have become self-sufficient. The limitations and benefits to gaming are many. Social costs are weighed and reported on. Gaming regulation is defined by Supreme Court decisions, Federal Acts, and state compacts. Census data such as population, household income, and poverty status is analyzed pre and post casino. The Impact of the Three Land Based Indian Casinos in Louisiana reports on how much money is given to local municipalities and how they spend it. Quite possibly the government that supported these tribes now relies on them.
