Analisis yang dilakukan berdasarkan pada konsep pemodelan secara empirik (dengan data) yang memungkinkan diperolehnya kesimpulan. Buku ini menyajikan konsep dasar pemodelan ekonometrika beserta pemanfaatan analisis regresi sederhana maupun berganda dalam tahap pemodelan, yang dimanfaatkan dalam pengambilan kesimpulan. Diberikan pula penjelasan mengenai bentuk fungsi yang sering digunakan di dalam pemodelan ekonometrika dan bagaimana memilih model terbaik dari beberapa pilihan model. Model-model yang dikaji pada buku ini adalah model yang berdasar pada data cross section, dan data panel. Disajikan contoh-contoh terapan dan analisis menggunakan data hasil penelitian terdahulu, maupun data sekunder yang dipublikasikan oleh lembaga-lembaga keuangan dan pemerintahan, untuk mempermudah pembaca dalam memahami pemanfaatan model. Pembahasan teori juga diberikan sedemikian sehingga dapat dipahami oleh pembaca dengan kemampuan statistika di tingkat sedang (intermediate). Dengan analisis regresi sebagai alat utama pemodelan ekonometrika, di mana keabsahan hasil analisis regresi sangat tergantung pada terpenuhi tidaknya asumsi-asumsi, maka penjelasan mengenai pendeteksian asumsi, efek pelanggaran asumsi dan bagaimana perbaikannya juga menjadi pembahasan pada buku ini. Seluruh analisis diilustrasikan menggunakan R dan aplikasi user interface nya, R Studio. R digunakan di buku ini sebagai alat bantu analisis karena sifatnya yang open source (tidak berbayar), keragaman fasilitas komputasi dan visualisasi, serta fleksibilitasnya dalam mengakomodir kebutuhan masing-masing pengguna melalui perintah-perintah (coding) yang dapat dibuat sendiri. Khusus untuk analisis ekonometrika, beragam package di dalam R dapat dimanfaatkan. Selain mengilustrasikan penggunaan R dalam analisis ekonometrika, buku ini juga menyajikan penggunaan R Markdown, salah satu format file dalam skrip R, untuk melaporkan hasil analisis dalam format dokumen pengolah kata, laman website, ataupun presentasi sehingga hasil analisis tersebut siap diinformasikan kepada pihak yang membutuhkan. Walaupun buku ini disusun sesuai dengan silabus pada Mata Kuliah Ekonometrika yang diajarkan di PS Sarjana Statistika FMIPA UB, namun materi di dalamnya bersifat umum untuk kebutuhan pengguna yang memanfaatkan analisis ekonometrika.
