Book excerpt: Each year millions of teenagers in the United States lose their lives to violence and on May 29, 2018, my 16-year-old son Grant became one of those statistics. He was a victim of senseless gun violence. When I lost Grant, I was overcome with anger. How could God do this to Grant? How could he do this to me? What did I do so bad for me to experience this "Hell on Earth?" I drank alcohol every night to try to numb the pain. I cursed God and drank in one breath and in the next breath, I begged and pleaded for him to help me overcome the most hurtful and traumatic pain I have ever felt in my entire life. God not only answered my prayers, he turned my pain into purpose. I was set free from all my addictions, fears, and self-sabotaging behaviors. I started a non-profit organization for youth to keep Grant's legacy alive and I am now committed to helping others find their purpose and achieve their dreams. In this book is my testimony of how Jesus Christ helped me to rise into my purpose, delivered me from bondage and set me free. Slavery is defined as anything that keeps you from becoming all God created you to be. I am inviting you to follow me on my journey to personal freedom while allowing my testimony to guide you into the discovery of your purpose.
