Book Synopsis The Structure and Measurement of Intelligence by : Hans Eysenck
Download or read book The Structure and Measurement of Intelligence written by Hans Eysenck and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is meant by the term "intelligence" and, once de- fined, how do we go about achieving a valid measurement of this faculty? This classic textbook, originally published in 1979, and now reissued with a new preface by Sybil Eysenck, incorporates a broad range of findings and reanalyzes much of the existing literature in this area. In The Structure and Measurement of Intelligence, Hans Eysenck draws on methods for determining the effect of genetics and environment on the development of intelligence and examines the validity of the term as defined in relation to internal as well as external criteria. He tests a number of hypotheses on intelligence against empirical research findings and considers various criticisms in detail. The significance of intelligence and its measurement in society are explored in depth. Eysenck greatly expands upon such questions as: Does IQ measure intelligence? How valid is the nature versus nurture argument? and, How might socioeconomic status influence one's intelligence? Designed primarily for students and scholars in psychology and education, this text will make thought-provoking reading for all concerned with the development and measurement of intelligence in the individual.

Book Synopsis Right-Brained Time, Money, & Measurement by : Sarah K Major
Download or read book Right-Brained Time, Money, & Measurement written by Sarah K Major and published by . This book was released on 2017-06-19 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for children who are strongly visual, who learn all at once through pictures, are drawn to patterns, rely on body motions, and who need to understand the process behind each math problem they solve. In Time, Money, & Measurement, we start at the very beginning and increase in difficulty in each area. 1- We embed symbols in VISUALS so that the child can take a quick look, absorb the learning piece, and store it as an image to be retrieved intact later. 2- We use PERSONIFICATION which is a powerful element in teaching and learning. The use of personification makes for rapid learning because the very look and personality of the character conveys the substance of the learning. For example, Ollie Owl, Molly Mongoose, and Sammy Stork have personalities that help cement their function in children's memory. Ollie Hour is an owl who marks the hours and goes very slowly on his short legs. Molly Minute is a mongoose who ticks off the minutes, scuttling around the clock quickly. Sammy Second is a stork who swoops around the clock marking off the seconds. 3- We rely on PATTERN DISCOVERY as a way of making numbers come alive and as a means of conveying the amazing relationships between numbers. What results is number sense. Because the brain is a pattern seeking organ, it is drawn to material that follows patterns. 4- We use STORY to contain the meaning of what we are teaching in math. Stories, like visuals, make learning unforgettable. They explain the "why" behind math concepts and tie everything together, creating a vehicle for meaning and for recall. 5- We use BODY MOTION--both gesture and whole body movement that mirrors the symbol shape or the action in the math story (such as addition or subtraction). Again, body movement is a powerful agent for learning and remembering. For many people, body motion makes recall effortless if the learning piece is directly tied to a unique motion. 6- We employ VISUALIZATION--a powerful tool for right-brain-dominant learners. If these learmers are given time to transfer the image on the paper in front of them to their brains (prompt them to close their eyes and SEE it in their mind's eye), they will be able to retrieve that image later. If the image contains learning concepts, this is how they will remember what you want them to learn. So in this book, each time a visual is introduced, prompt the student(s) to "see" the image in their mind.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Right-Brained Addition & Subtraction begins with number recognition and counting, and continues through single-digit computation, number patterns, number sense, and number families. Included are stylized numbers and a song that helps children relate number symbols with number names. Then there is the core of the Right-Brained series which is the visuals and patterns for the facts to 10. Most importantly, children don't do computation by counting, but rather by the "see and say" method. The visual background they receive with the games allows them this fluency with their facts. Download or read book Dyslexia Decoded written by Bina Nangia and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If I can’t learn the way you teach, please teach me the way I can learn It is only when you read about real-life stories you want to believe that strategies work. The method suggested in Dyslexia Decoded have been tried and tested for more than two decades with different levels of difficulties, different students and a variety of situations. Processing information and using proper sound system results in learning differently, while styles of learning when incorporated in teaching, makes mild learning difficulties disappear. Emotional, social impacts of learning difficulties cannot be ignored as they cause greater harm than the difficulty itself. This book shows you just that and emphasizes the need to counsel students, teachers, parents and schools. Schools form a major part of children’s lives and when they take on the task of supporting the 10% of their population with specific learning difficulties they go beyond their own limitations and contribute a great deal to the lives of all children. A special school system is detrimental for children with specific learning difficulties even though it may seem to be the answer for other special needs. This book encourages schools to include students with specific learning difficulties, while guiding them to use the support which the Boards willingly give.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on the latest scientific research, Jason Zweig shows what happens in your brain when you think about money and tells investors how to take practical, simple steps to avoid common mistakes and become more successful. What happens inside our brains when we think about money? Quite a lot, actually, and some of it isn’t good for our financial health. In Your Money and Your Brain, Jason Zweig explains why smart people make stupid financial decisions—and what they can do to avoid these mistakes. Zweig, a veteran financial journalist, draws on the latest research in neuroeconomics, a fascinating new discipline that combines psychology, neuroscience, and economics to better understand financial decision making. He shows why we often misunderstand risk and why we tend to be overconfident about our investment decisions. Your Money and Your Brain offers some radical new insights into investing and shows investors how to take control of the battlefield between reason and emotion. Your Money and Your Brain is as entertaining as it is enlightening. In the course of his research, Zweig visited leading neuroscience laboratories and subjected himself to numerous experiments. He blends anecdotes from these experiences with stories about investing mistakes, including confessions of stupidity from some highly successful people. Then he draws lessons and offers original practical steps that investors can take to make wiser decisions. Anyone who has ever looked back on a financial decision and said, “How could I have been so stupid?” will benefit from reading this book.
