The noise of shooting carried on followed by heavier shooting like from a machine gun, the black rain still fell down on me obscuring my vision, Bullets hit the sides of the hole I was in, the person who was next to me took a load of bullets or something else that pushed him hard against me, We both slipped further into the slipper mud and oil filled hole we were in, He was heavy and pushed me further into the bottom of the hole, The dark sky lit up followed by a very loud explosive sound, The ground around us shook, the person who was half on top of me took the impact from whatever was flying around, I went into the oily muddy water at the bottom of the hole, The weight of whoever was on top of me pushed me further down, Oil, water and mud went into my mouth and everywhere else, I couldn’t move this person off me and gasped for air, Strange thoughts went through my mind, was this the end I thought to myself? 4 With all my strength I pushed hard on the body that was on top and drowning me, I managed to get my head up out of the oily mud and gasped for air, More bullets bounced around the walls of the hole, someone called out in pain, another explosion went off close by that shook the ground hard, I went back under the mud again and fought hard to push the weight off me, With one last effort of strength I pushed my arm out of the mud in an attempt to grab hold of anything, Someone grabbed my hand and pulled hard, “Got you brother, we got you know mate” I heard someone called out! I woke and opened my eyes to see a pretty lady leaning over me, “It’s ok darling, you safe with me, another bad dream my darling, just a bad dream, I am here with you” I heard her say softly as she held my hand and pulled me from the floor back into bed, I looked hard at her and realized this lady was my wife and it was just another bad dream, She comforted me as I led shaking and covered in sweat, The dreams continue, they never go away.

I heard doors slam shut and movement, I could tell I was in the back of a moving vehicle, 3 Sirens sounded and I could make out the blue flashing light glows in my blurred vision, I tried to think what had happened but couldn't, I just led there and fell into a dream or coma whatever it was I felt pretty comfortable at the moment, like I was drunk or something, high on something, there was no pain, the shaking around in the vehicle was rocking me to sleep, “are you ok, what is your name, what happened to you, do you know where you are mate” I heard being called out close to me, I could tell it was a lady talking, I felt hands checking things on my body, I could tell it was the hands of a nurse, they were gentle but firm, my vision was getting a bit better, I tried to talk but slurred my words, the nurse was close to me, I could smell her perfume, she asked me what my name was and what had happened to me, I tried to talk again, the nurse wiped my watering eyes and mouth, I could see better, she spoke softly and professionally, “My eyes, I can’t see properly” I moaned out, she wiped them again, I blinked and blinked again, I could see the nurse, paramedic she looked like but in a different uniform that I recognised, she asked me again what had happened, I picked up an accent that I wasn't sure about, I closed my eyes and opened them again, 4 “you are asking me what happened, I am asking you what happened” I announced, she nodded and checked my vitals again, I was in an ambulance for sure, managed to suss that out, the siren was not the one I recognised, we bounced about, the nurse in the back with me shouted to whoever was driving up front in a language I didn't catch, I tried and tried to remember what had happened, who I was, where I was, what had happened to me, why I was here and injured, things went blurry again, the nurse comforted me the best she could as we bumped along, I kept my eyes closed and preyed I was in some dream. The paramedic nurse continued to talk to the driver, I heard him talking back to her, she asked me more questions, “what is your name, do you remember anything about what happened, where are you from, where do you live” I heard her asking all these questions which I thought was strange, the nurse was going to in depth with the questions, “what country do you come from, why are you here, are you holiday” she kept on with the questions, I looked her and smiled, I felt dizzy, whatever they had given me was taking effect, the nurse became blurry and hazy, I felt like I was drunk, it was good, I could hear her talking to me but I didn't reply, I wanted to reply but I felt I couldn't, if I did I would probably laugh or giggle or something the way I was feeling, 5 I listened to the nurse, the ambulance bounced around, the sirens and flashing blue lights, I still couldn't remember what had happened to me, where I was, what had happened, who I was, I didn't care,

The Chinese government made quick rules for their people and passed their developments to the world medical association who were not too happy with the slowness of China’s reports, Bid decisions were being made behind closed doors. Weeks passed, China reported thousands of deaths to other foreign governments as they should of a lot sooner, Quarantine levels were put in place too late, Lock down rules were taken on, Chinese soldiers were used to disinfect the streets, United nations met as quickly as they could and dammed China for this new virus that come from their country, The virus was now spreading across Eastern Asia and leaking into Europe. It was discovered, leaked out that this virus had been spreading around China for weeks, could be months, it wasn’t proven, some government officials said, could have been longer, who knows others talked about, It became very messy, Countries governments talked and talked strongly together to try and find out what exactly what was going on, 3 China announced from their scientists results what they had discovered about the virus, They informed it was a pandemic, not air born, spread around from human to human, coughing, sneezing, talking to close to another person could pass on the virus, China called the virus, Covid-19, another type of Corona virus, They informed it was much stronger than past virus’s the world had already encountered and was continually investigating them, this was also known to many countries’ leaders. The world health association was not impressed and demanded, there was little reply from China just their reports on other viruses they had been working on. Uk government officials along with the world health organisation had in depth behind closed doors trying to get to grips with this new virus and what exactly was its strength, China still talked behind clouds informing that It was not their fault and that it would blow over, It was not the case as more and more cases were discovered around the world, UK’s prime minister held instance cabinet meetings trying to get to grips with this new virus and preparing what to tell the nation, Little was told and was told to late many people thought, but that was, always is the case with the government in the UK many people have commented in the past.

Wars broke out, governments fell apart, the military factions in most countries took over to try and resolve some sort of order, it was too late, the poorer countries who couldn’t keep up fell apart, disease broke out and spread, people started to kill each other, no one trusted anyone, civil war broke out everywhere, Mars had been visited many time by all countries that had the capabilities to do it, countries pushed as many of their population to mars, police were over taken by vigilante groups to try and take order, Earth was in a big mess! In the end only people with money got the trip to the new colonies on Mars. Space stations were made in orbit and life on Mars happened. Cities were made under super structure domes protecting civilisation from the Sun’s harmful rays, oxygen was plentiful, machines, robots and droids had already sorted this out, building massive structures with earths scientists help to give breathable cities, the robots manned them for a time until humans and some more sorted things out, rules and regulations were made, governments were made and a new planet with life evolved. Korea didn’t want any part of the rest of the worlds decisions and pushed the button, a nuclear war erupted, China took the brunt and South Korea at first, no other country retaliated, to scared too, most of the population was already on mars, only the dregs were left on Earth and everyone knew it. Many years passed and Earth got over the nuclear attacks from Korea, fifty percent of the planet got on with what they could, the ozone shield had collapsed and meteor storms rained down every other day, Earth was in winter all year around, people survived somehow, humanoids, droids and vigilantes ruled, there was no law and order on the planet at all. Disease, famine and a lot more was thriving in all countries that existed on what was left on Earth, Earth was now the forgotten planet to most people, Luna Mars was the new life, Earth was now just a place to send the ones who made it to Mars that didn’t fit in to what was expected from them. Military rangers, law enforcement teams in most regions on mars took care of things under their own governments.

His team was hit in a messy ambush one night and Sam took a bullet in the leg. He was sent back to the UK for rehabilitation. Sam hit the bottle again and was downgraded because of his injury, 6 he ended up working in the bedding stores sorting out troops sheets and blanket for their beds. This was the last straw for Sam, he was a broken young man, a lost soldier slowly going down the drain. Lost his wife and daughter, his rank and respect from all of his mates, they laughed behind his back about him working in the bedding stores and him with a permanent limp now from his wound, rumors spread around his regiment that Sam had shot himself just to get out of Bosnia, it was never proved but the story stuck. Sam got discharged on Medical grounds, He was offered help from army services that help soldiers get settled into civilian life, He turned help down as he had had enough of the British army, he felt stabbed in the back and went off on his own. 7 The army gave him a few thousand pounds’ cash as resettlement fee, Sam moved in with his mum for a while until she had had enough of his antics, He was homeless and alone in London. Sam made some friends on the street living rough, his mum tried her best to help but he turned her down, He met an ex-soldier one night sleeping on the streets, this guy told him about a hush hush unit that’s recruiting mercenaries to go over to Cambodia, Sam and his friend laughed and joked about the army days and got drunk and passed out. Sam woke in the morning with the mercenary thing on his mind. He opened his eyes and looked around in a haze, and it was dark and raining. 8 Sam felt wet all over and numb, he tried to focus on things only to see blurry doubles of everything, He pushed himself up and sat there in the wet, a bottle rolled next to him, Sam looked down and grabbed the bottle, he drank what was left inside it and threw it away, He checked his pockets and found his metal tin that had old cigarettes inside that people had thrown on the street when they had finished with them, Sam found his lighter that he kept in his pants and lit one of the cigarettes he found on the streets, he looked again and pulled out his silver hip flask that he always kept full in case he needed a stiff one. It was one of Sam’s leaving presents when he left the army, they gave him a silver zippo lighter, a multi tool survival pocketknife and s silver hip flask with his name and regiment inscribed on it. 9 Sam looked at the flask and remembered the good times, he took a big swig and put it away, he smoked the secondhand cigarettes and stared at nothing in particular. Most of the time for quite a while now, Sam was in a complete daze and didn’t much care about anything at all. He remembered that he had had an old army sleeping bag and a rucksack with what little belonging he had before he had passed out in some fire escape at the back of some office building, somewhere in Victoria, London. Sam looked about as he heard some people laughing from somewhere, he recognized some voices, He got up and waited, A girl in her twenties came into sight a bit blurry, she saw Sam, “There you are you git, been looking all over for you, son of a bitch” the girl announced and came forward to Sam, 10 Her name or street name was Tammy, “look at the state of you, Sam smiled, “hey baby was wasted and fell asleep, I thought you was with me, what happened” Sam asked? “Don’t remember too well myself darling, I woke up next to Macdonald’s with Jess next to me begging” “Shit baby, somebody robbed my stuff again” Sam exclaimed and shivered, “no they haven’t mate, it’s behind the garage where we usually kip you fool, you really were wasted babe” Tammy said and started to laugh, a large lad stepped out of the shadows dressed in a long camouflagedjacket, “she found you then you bum, you downed all your methanol you idiot on top of pills and shit, stupid boy, need to calm down lad” Jess exclaimed and patted Sam on the shoulders, 11 “come on lad, what we need is something to drink and some snacks, get us through the night eh” Jess announced and passed Sam a lit cigarette, Tammy hugged Sam and kissed his cheek, “will you stop disappearing on me please”, “I’ve been on the street a lot longer than you so listen to me and stay with me OK soldier boy” Tammy told him and slapped him, “yes soldier blue, wise up and get street wise, this is London, trust who you need to trust and that’s it, too many people out there to screw you for nothing, now let’s get something to drink, me and Tammy will lookafter you as we have been doing” Jess announced and walked off laughing to himself. “I don’t think I can take this shit much longer mate”, 12 “I still can’t get my head around things, too long in the army and now I’m on the streets of London” Sam exclaimed and flicked his cigarette away, “Sam every time we talk about you and the army you keep telling me a different story, one day I want the truth babe” Tammy announced and smiled, she grabbed Sam, they both followed Jess down the street. Jess walked into a side street corner shop, some shouting was heard from inside and Jess came out with two bottles of vodka, “Here ya go, drink and let’s have a chat, I got some weed in my pocket that needs smoking children” Jess announced and started to laugh, Sam and Tammy opened the bottles that Jess took out of the shop, the three of them started to talk crap as usual, “Sam tell us about your war stories, you promised you would” Jess asked? “alright, you’ll be shocked” Sam said.

It was discovered, leaked out that this virus had been spreading around China for weeks, could be months, it wasn’t proven, some government officials said, could have been longer, who knows others talked about, It became very messy, Countries governments talked and talked strongly together to try and find out what exactly what was going on, China announced from their scientists results what they had discovered about the virus, They informed it was a pandemic, not air born, spread around from human to human, coughing, sneezing, talking to close to another person could pass on the virus, China called the virus, Covid-19, another type of Corona virus, 4 They informed it was much stronger than past virus’s the world had already encountered and was continually investigating them, this was also known to many countries’ leaders. The world health association was not impressed and demanded, there was little reply from China just their reports on other viruses they had been working on. Uk government officials along with the world health organisation had in depth behind closed doors trying to get to grips with this new virus and what exactly was its strength, China still talked behind clouds informing that It was not their fault and that it would blow over, It was not the case as more and more cases were discovered around the world, UK’s prime minister held instance cabinet meetings trying to get to grips with this new virus and preparing what to tell the nation, Little was told and was told to late many people thought, but that was, always is the case with the government in the UK many people have commented in the past.

Book excerpt: “hurry up already will ya, the British Bedford truck is on its way so it is, we need to get this one right, boss will have our Jacobs if we miss this one so he will” someone wearing a black balaclava mask next to a small hump bridge over a sewer whispered to someone else next to him, The other hooded person said nothing as he was busy twisting wires together with shaking hands, He swore hard under his breath and tapped the lad next to him on the leg, the two of them crawled away in the long grass away from the small hump bridge, then into better cover as they made their way up a fence line getting themselves a good hundred metres away from where they were moments ago, “it’s coming” one of the two lads announced whilst looking through a pair of binoculars, The other hooded lad was busy twisting wires together and turning small metal terminals, He looked hard to the other lad next to him, They both made ready their rifles that was slung over their shoulders whilst they were busy setting the explosives up, “these new scopes are pretty good mate” one of the lads commented as he watched the approaching army truck and land rover, “hope Paddies got the car running, didn’t start last, remember “two minutes, pick off the stragglers and get, you got me” the other hooded lad ordered, The two of them watched the British army truck driving down the country road, there was a land rover in front of the truck that they were not expecting, “what do we do now” one of the lads announced nervously, He saw the look from his pal and shut up, “take the glasses away, they will give our position away, glare from the sun, you should know all this” the other hooded lad growled pulling the binoculars away from the lad with him, “we can’t get both of them” the other lad whispered, The other hooded lad shut his pal up and watched the small hump bridge and the oncoming military land rover and four tonne truck following that was full of British soldiers heading to the firing range for their training and stuff, “packed plenty of Semtex down there so I did the way I packed it will do the job” the more confident one of the two lads exclaimed He held the plunger in his hand and waited, “it’s not too late to pull out so it is, can say there was too many cover vehicles with the truck, who will know ”the nervous younger lad suggested, “I will know” came the reply as he pushed the plunger down hard, there was a quiet zipping sound followed by an explosion! The hump bridge disintegrated catching the rear of the front land rover and the front of the following troops truck, The two vehicles exploded some more, Screams were heard! The two masked men picked off the British troops who were running away from the burning vehicles, some of them were on fire, they fell down for ever when hit by the masked lads bullets, “let’s get out of here before any more Brits turn up, we done our job here so we have”.

There was an accident whilst they were all crossing the Atlantic ocean in the boat they had high jacked from a group of people who were going to double cross them and take the emeralds that Rhys and his pals had found in the Amazon Jungle, 2 The boat had stalled for some reason in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean at night in bad weather, They were being thrown around in very large waves and heavy winds, everyone on board was working hard to sort things out, when there was a scream. Carmem disappeared into the water into the night, There was nothing they could do, They were all lucky to survive that bad night. Rhys was devastated and heart broken, he blamed himself for not making sure Carmem was wearing a life jacket. He hit the bottle for a few days and just stayed in his cabin, It was a long journey to the coast of Ireland, Rhys sorted himself out and came to terms with the loss of his Carmem. 3 Rhys called his old friend called: Dan in Ireland, he used a secure line and arranged to hide the boat in a hidden cove. Rhys told Dan what they had been through, he was the only person he could trust. They would hide on Dan’s farm that was well out of the way from prying eyes. Old Dan was a good friend to Rhys with a long past, Dan was a commander in the IRA long time ago, His son was murdered in Bosnia by a sniper, Dan knew Rhys had saved his son’s life on many occasions when his son was serving in the Irish rangers unit. The old man knew ways to get rid of the emeralds, he had black market connections, Old Dan had dodgy connections that were linked with the IRA, the Irish republican army, He was the IRA, a long time ago.

Rhys got himself back to the UK on board a cargo ship under a false name with passport and driving licence too, He lost trace of his pals who had also taken other identities and disappeared with their women in Brazil He got a job as a driver for some rich oil dealer, his boss spoke highly of him and he was passed onto another rich merchant banker as a close protection driver come baby sitter, One day he drove his boss to a meeting and some man recognised him from the army, too many questions were asked so he left that job. Rhys found a job as a live in head porter in a high class residential block in Kensington. He provided false references and referees, he was took on because of his military background and professional manor. The old guy, Trevor that had the position was forced to retire after 27 years, Trevor interviewed Rhys and liked his spirit straight away, the old man was ex-military himself, a long time ago, Trevor told Rhys he wanted him here as the other porters needed a good kick up their backsides, he was getting too old to do it now with his diabetes and high blood pressure, Trevor told him the rules and some more Rhys went to the second interview with the client who would be the direct boss under the residents committee, Trevor spoke highly of Rhys in the interview, the client said, “we need some new fresh air in here to brush out the cobwebs and sort out certain lazy individuals”, “I want an ex-military guy in here to run things, I have spoken with the resident and they approve” the boss announced, He stood up and held out his hand, Rhys stood up and shook his hand tightly, “That’s a powerful handshake you have there young man, I like it, welcome aboard” He said, “Trevor will show you the ropes for a while before he leaves to greener pastures, I will be in touch, bye for now” he announced and left the office and walked away, Trevor watched the boss walk away, “Yes I have a few things to tell you about that man in quiet”, “You never know who’s listening around here, don’t give the other porters ammunition to use against you, They have tried it on me and failed in the end” he told me. So Rhys got the job, and the other porters who had been on site for years were not too impressed with a new younger ex-military guy in charge, Rhys had to have a few meetings with the other porters, These meeting were to try and put things into perspective, show them who is the boss now and it was time to get out of the old ways things were run and get used to new ideas. “You work for me and I’ll work for you, work hard play hard” Rhys told the porters. They didn’t want to listen! Rhys had a lot of run-ins with the other porters trying to get them to do things his way and by the book.
