Download or read book Recovering written by Alexander and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I grew up in a family system where there were a lot of abusive family members. The ones who were not abusive didnt seem to be able to remove themselves or the children from the harmful behavior in our lives. As a child I was extremely nervous and felt a lot of shame. I witnessed a lot of horrible things and was extremely abused myself. I saw how alcoholism enabled certain family members to either act very inappropriately when under the influence or become extremely violent. I saw how alcohol was used to medicate other family members. Some of my family members died rather young I feel due a very stressful life. I began to notice my siblings and my cousins participate in destructive relationships and/or abuse substances. My relationships with them were not healthy ones. I tried for years to find ways to improve my relationships with them but nothing ever worked no matter how hard I tried. This book is about my experiences with family and other unhealthy relationships in my life. How it all affected me from childhood and into adulthood. The steps I had to take to improve my life. I now believe I can have the love and respect I want from others in my life as long as I love and care for myself. I hope my story will help others who have had similar experiences. I have no desire to drink alcohol anymore or to associate with people who abuse it, are abusive, controlling and who cannot be accountable for their behavior. We all deserve to heal and have good relationships in our lives.

Book Synopsis The Crusades: Motives, Methods and Moments by : Emil Shehadeh
Download or read book The Crusades: Motives, Methods and Moments written by Emil Shehadeh and published by CANDOR Publishing. This book was released on with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the crusades ended several hundred years ago, they remain a vexed issue today, not least for Muslims, who seem to evoke the crusades whenever the problem of contemporary Muslim violence is discussed. President Obama’s National Prayer Breakfast speech suggested that the crusades have robbed the West of the right to criticise Islamic violence. Were the crusades holy wars? Were there any other motives behind the crusades? Why have popes recently apologised to Muslims for the crusades? The crusades are examined against Christian and Muslim standards. Did the Roman Catholic Church use the Word of God appropriately? Could the crusades have been prevented by an earlier Protestant Reformation? The issue of a Just War is discussed. Can the crusades be justified from a Christian point of view? What preceded the crusades in Christian-Muslim relations? Are Muslims the victims of the crusades? Can the House of Islam justify continuing their war on Christians today because of the crusades? What can be learnt from the crusades?

Book Synopsis The Philosophy of Nietzsche by : Rex Welson
Download or read book The Philosophy of Nietzsche written by Rex Welson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-18 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important new introduction to Nietzsche's philosophical work provides readers with an excellent framework for understanding the central concerns of his philosophical and cultural writings. It shows how Nietzsche's ideas have had a profound influence on European philosophy and why, in recent years, Nietzsche scholarship has become the battleground for debates between the analytic and continental traditions over philosophical method. The book is divided into three parts. In the first part, the author discusses morality, religion and nihilism to show why Nietzsche rejects certain components of the Western philosophical and religious traditions as well as the implications of this rejection. In the second part, the author explores Nietzsche's ambivalent and sophisticated reflections on some of philosophy's biggest questions. These include his criticisms of metaphysics, his analysis of truth and knowledge, and his reflections on the self and consciousness. In the final section, Welshon discusses some of the ways in which Nietzsche transcends, or is thought to transcend, the Western philosophical tradition, with chapters on the will to power, politics, and the flourishing life.
