Book excerpt: Local functional systems that create inefficient islands of information are being replaced by expensive enterprise-wide applications that unify the functional areas; however, while we have not yet been able to completely and seamlessly integrate across functions, we find that the new islands of information are no longer functional but political, cultural, linguistic, and geographical. The global village is a reality and enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementations face new issues and challenges. Enterprise Resource Planning for Global Economies: Managerial Issues and Challenges provides authoritative research on the theoretical frameworks and pragmatic discussions on global implementations of information systems, particularly ERP systems. This book offers professionals, managers, and researchers, who want to improve their understanding of the issues and challenges that arise when information systems cross national boundaries, with an authoritative, essential research resource.

This book was released on 2013-06-10 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an era defined by climate change, huge resource consumption, a lack of social cohesion, rapidly accelerating technological innovations, economic shifts, and the transformation of political systems, solutions must be pursued at every level of action. This book shows how solutions from urban design and planning can, by integrating the approaches of multiple disciplines, be the first steps toward envisioning the sustainable, energy-efficient, and climate-sensitive city of the future. This book is compiled for readers from a range of professional backgrounds. Its intended audience includes the government bodies, municipalities, urban planners, engineers, architects, civil servants, and citizens who are part of urban development, from initiation through implementation. The facts and findings presented herein are relevant to any national or international debate concerning urban development which aims to create sustainable, resource-efficient, and climate-sensitive urbanization processes. The text and visuals of this book are intended to serve as a comprehensive decision support tool, taking into account that current and future urban challenges and planning tasks can only be tackled through an interlinked and stakeholder driven iterative process. As a result of the Young Cities research project, this book acts as a multilayered reference manual by providing: (a) a brief outline of the MENA region’s urban challenges; (b) a proposal for generic principles and actions for creating an energy- and resource-efficient as well as environmentally sustainable urban environment; (c) the opportunities and impacts of each discipline involved in an integrated planning process; and (d) the findings of the applied principles in the 35 ha “Shahre Javan Community” pilot project.

Book excerpt: The importance of people in organizations has been growing in the organizational environment over the last decades. Digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and sustainability have already reinforced the role of people as a differentiating element for the success and survival of organizations. These phenomena alone are already challenging for people. There is a consensus that the world of work as we knew before the pandemic will not return. Human resource management (HRM) practices must prepare organizations for the future of work. The Handbook of Research on Challenges for Human Resource Management in the COVID-19 Era analyzes state-of-the-art HRM in a digital transformation context and investigates the factors that promote more learning and development dynamics in organizational contexts. It also evaluates the impact of HRM policies on individuals, organizations, and societies. Covering topics such as corporate social responsibility, job satisfaction, and electronic performance monitoring, this major reference work is a crucial resource for leaders from public and private companies, human resource professionals, specialists, students and educators of higher education, researchers, and academicians.

Book Synopsis Uganda's Human Resource Challenge by : Jörg Wiegratz
Download or read book Uganda's Human Resource Challenge written by Jörg Wiegratz and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2009 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite significant economic recovery and improved macro-economic indicators since 1986, Uganda's economy continues to face considerable challenges. This book analyses the relationship between economic and human resource development in the country. It identifies deficits in capabilities, skills, know-how, experience, linkage building, and technology use as well as undesirable business practices. These shortcomings limit economic diversification, productivity enhancement, job and income creation, as well as poverty reduction. The book calls for more efforts towards human resource development. The current narrow mainstream economic policy focus on macro-economic stability, a favourable investment climate, and improved physical infrastructure alone will not foster economic development and broad-based well-being. The Ugandan people and the private sector need more state support - in addition to the predominant education and health focus of the government and donors - if they are to develop the required human resources. More and better training, enhanced learning at the place of work and an improved business culture are vital. It is essential to focus on technical, organisational, managerial, entrepreneurial, learning, innovative, social, and institutional capabilities. Efforts towards dealing with these challenges will require attention to the political-economic climate of the country. To make the argument, the author covers a wide range of topics such as training and learning, technology, productivity, latecomer development, competitiveness, labour market, MSMEs, entrepreneurship, value chains, cooperation and trust, and human resource management. The book contains more than 130 figures, tables and information boxes. - See more at: http: //www.africanbookscollective.com/books/ugandas-human-resource-challenge#sthash.4XThRHxq.dpuf

Book Synopsis Enterprise Resource Planning: Global Opportunities and Challenges by : Hossain, Liaquat
Download or read book Enterprise Resource Planning: Global Opportunities and Challenges written by Hossain, Liaquat and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2001-07-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) refers to large commercial software packages that promise a seamless integration of information flow through an organization by combining various sources of information into a single software application and a single database. The outcome of ERP itself is still a mystery, but the trends and issues it has created will be the enigma that future generations will have to solve. Traditionally, separate units were created within an organization to carry out various tasks, and these functional areas would create their own information systems thereby giving rise to systems that were not integrated. ERP strives to provide a solution to these problems. Enterprise Resource Planning Solutions and Management examines the issues that need to be further studied and better understood to ensure successful implementation and deployment of ERP systems.
