Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact agenda is set to shape the way in which social scientists prioritise the work they choose to pursue, the research methods they use and how they publish their findings over the coming decade, but how much is currently known about how social science research has made a mark on society? Based on a three year research project studying the impact of 360 UK-based academics on business, government and civil society sectors, this groundbreaking new book undertakes the most thorough analysis yet of how academic research in the social sciences achieves public policy impacts, contributes to economic prosperity, and informs public understanding of policy issues as well as economic and social changes. The Impact of the Social Sciences addresses and engages with key issues, including: identifying ways to conceptualise and model impact in the social sciences developing more sophisticated ways to measure academic and external impacts of social science research explaining how impacts from individual academics, research units and universities can be improved. This book is essential reading for researchers, academics and anyone involved in discussions about how to improve the value and impact of funded research. Through theoretical studies and empirical research, the authors attempt to explain complex legal, administrative, management and international relations concepts. The essays focus on several themes including local and global public administration, team management, human resources, social and medical services, management of intangibles, female managers, ethnic minorities in central Europe, corporative social responsibility, the digital era, the right to development, responsibility, and crime victims of child pornography, etc. The book is an educational and empirical support for a broad variety of professionals in the socio-administrative and legal fields. Scientific knowledge is structured in order to provide an actual image of the studied concepts. However, the book is not restrictive: it is also accessible to a broader audience interested in an interdisciplinary approach to administrative, legal and management studies.

Download or read book Capitalism written by Anwar Shaikh and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-01-15 with total page 896 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthodox economics operates within a hypothesized world of perfect competition in which perfect consumers and firms act to bring about supposedly optimal outcomes. The discrepancies between this model and the reality it claims to address are then attributed to particular imperfections in reality itself. Most heterodox economists seize on this fact and insist that the world is characterized by imperfect competition. But this only ties them to the notion of perfect competition, which remains as their point of departure and base of comparison. There is no imperfection without perfection. In Capitalism, Anwar Shaikh takes a different approach. He demonstrates that most of the central propositions of economic analysis can be derived without any reference to standard devices such as hyperrationality, optimization, perfect competition, perfect information, representative agents, or so-called rational expectations. This perspective allows him to look afresh at virtually all the elements of economic analysis: the laws of demand and supply, the determination of wage and profit rates, technological change, relative prices, interest rates, bond and equity prices, exchange rates, terms and balance of trade, growth, unemployment, inflation, and long booms culminating in recurrent general crises. In every case, Shaikh's innovative theory is applied to modern empirical patterns and contrasted with neoclassical, Keynesian, and Post-Keynesian approaches to the same issues. Shaikh's object of analysis is the economics of capitalism, and he explores the subject in this expansive light. This is how the classical economists, as well as Keynes and Kalecki, approached the issue. Anyone interested in capitalism and economics in general can gain a wealth of knowledge from this ground-breaking text.

Download or read book Man and the Social Sciences (Routledge Revivals) written by William Alexander Robson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-04 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most significant movements in the world of learning in the twentieth century was the rise and development of the social sciences. However, few attempts have been made to see how far social scientists have travelled on the road to studying and understanding human society. First published in 1972, the lectures reprinted in this book aim to trace the development of the social sciences during the twentieth century and to show the role of the London School of Economics and Political Science in this development since it was founded in 1895. Each of the very distinguished lecturers was asked to take the larger view, to be critical where necessary, to treat his subject in the context of the world of learning. The result is a survey of exceptional interest in which the growth of the social sciences is analysed from a number of contrasting viewpoints, each of which ranges widely and often with provocative brilliance over themes that are of general concern. The introduction by Professor W.A. Robson, which was not part of the original lecture series, is in itself a critical assessment of the field that will be read with close attention.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Research on Current Trends in Asian Economics, Business, and Administration by : Akkaya, Bülent
Download or read book Handbook of Research on Current Trends in Asian Economics, Business, and Administration written by Akkaya, Bülent and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-10-08 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social sciences have always been an important tool that enables human beings to examine and understand society. Through social sciences, researchers gain understandings of social phenomena and changes by providing commentaries, producing explanations, and attempting to synthesize a diversity of information sets to formulate theories. Since the concept of change has been the hallmark of the new millennium, researchers have witnessed a transformation in every aspect of the modern world at an ever-increasing speed, particularly in the social facet of human life. Ways of thinking that had previously been upheld and taught may, therefore, no longer be appropriate or effective as tools to understand contemporary phenomena and changes. The Handbook of Research on Current Trends in Asian Economics, Business, and Administration is a critical reference source that examines different aspects of social sciences, management, sociology, and education to better understand today’s society and social life in the Asian context. The book identifies trends, impacts, and implications of disruptive technologies for business and socio-economic development as well as strategic advantage on different levels of business and administration. Covering topics that include e-commerce, green management, information technology, economic growth, and distance learning, this book is essential for economists, academicians, government officials, policymakers, social scientists, managers, leaders, behavioral scientists, academicians, researchers, and students.
