Book excerpt: Preface UGC NET exam pattern 2022 has been released by National Testing Agency (NTA) along with the official notification. As per the UGC NET 2022 exam pattern, the exam consists of two papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers are comprised of objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs). There is no break between Paper 1 and 2. The exam will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. The medium of the UGC NET question paper is in English and Hindi languages only. Till December 2018, the UGC NET exam pattern was such that the test consisted of two papers (Paper 1 and 2) that were conducted in two different sessions. Candidates had to complete both the papers (Paper 1 and 2) in a duration of one and two hours, respectively. However, in June 2019, NTA changed the exam pattern as per which candidates now have to give both the papers in a single three-hour duration. In UGC NET Paper 1, the official website of NTA informs, "The questions will be generic in nature, intending to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate."This book ‘A Handbook for General Paper on Teaching & Research Aptitude (Paper -I) of UGC-NET & PET Exams: A Crash Course for all Aspiring Students’ (For All 101 Subjects) is an outcome of not just efforts from the authors, but contributions by many Research Scholars. We take this opportunity to thank all those who supported in publication of this book. Many research scholars have been kind enough to share their research works in form of Video sessions on Teaching & Research Aptitude, Power-point presentations, MCQs in google from etc, so that a larger section of the aspiring students can take a guideline in preparing for the exams. This Book also contains useful QR codes for direct link to various folders and files on the drive for Syllabi for UGC NET Paper-I & Various MCQ’s on different Open-source websites. We owe to many authors and websites whose writings formed the basis for this book. Book excerpt: This book outlines the consequences of digitization for peer-reviewed research articles published in electronic journals. It is argued that digitization will revolutionize scientific communication. However, this study shows that this is not the case where scientific journals are concerned. Authors make little use of the possibilities offered by the digital medium; electronic peer review procedures have not replaced traditional ones, and users have not embraced new forms of interaction offered by some electronic journals.

Book excerpt: This book presents a perspective on genre based on what it is that leads users of a language to recognise a communicative event as an instance of a particular genre. Key notions in this perspective are those of prototype, inheritance, and intertextuality; that is, the extent to which a text is typical of the particular genre, the qualities or properties that are inherited from other instances of the communicative event, and the ways in which a text is influenced by other texts of a similar kind. The texts which form the basis of this discussion are drawn from experimental research reporting in English. Contents: 1. Introduction 2. Approaches to genre 3. Genre and frames 4. A sample analysis: Writing up research 5. Summary and conclusions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive study of hedging in academic research papers, relating a systematic analysis of forms to a pragmatic explanation for their use. Based on a detailed examination of journal articles and interviews with research scientists, the study shows that the extensive use of possibility and tentativeness in research writing is intimately connected to the social and institutional practices of academic communities and is at the heart of how knowledge comes to be socially accredited through texts. The study identifies the major forms, functions and distribution of hedges and explores the research article genre in detail to present an explanatory framework based on a complex social and ideological interpretive environment. The results show that hedging is central to Scientific argument, individual scientists and, ultimately, to science itself. The importance of hedging to student writers is also recognised and a chapter devoted to teaching implications.
