Technical Conference and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1990-10-26 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the refereed and invited papers presented at Expert Systems 90, the tenth annual conference of the British Computer Society's Specialist Group on Expert Systems, held in London in September 1990. The theme of the conference,"Business Benefits of Expert Systems," is particularly pertinent, as expert systems mature and begin to be applied in a much wider range of settings. This year three issues in particular were examined: cybernetics, databases, and programming languages. They reflect the ubiquity of expert systems and show how these methods are helping to expand other areas of technology. This is the seventh volume in the conference series, "Research and Development in Expert Systems," and is essential reading for those working in expert systems and artificial intelligence who wish to keep up to date with developments and opportunities in these important fields.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following on from a three-year knowledge management project, seven organisations formed aco-operative group for knowledge management. This group meets through the Knowledge Management Implementers Forum (KMIF). Each of the organisations participating in this work are, by implication, interested in the development of KM. The aims of the forum are t9 exchange ideas and share experience in the areaofknowledge management. The organisations involved are: ~ British Aerospace (Samlesbury) ~ ICI ~ ICL ~ North WestWater ~ IDS Cad-Graphics ~ Liverpool John Moores University ~ NWAIAG (Blackburn College) 1.1 The Organisations Involved Each ofthe organisations has specific reasons for being involved in this project and in KM. The British Aerospace Samlesbury site is a large manufacturing site employing ground breaking technology for Europe's front line military aircraft. The factory works with a well-managed supply chain and works closely with other British Aerospace sites in the manufacture of aircraft components. It has set up a partnership with another Aerospace Company based on exchange of knowledge and therefore needs to value that knowledge. ICI is one of the UK's leading chemical companies and plays on an international stage. Changes in international supply and demand require ICI to respond quickly to market pressures. This means that the company needs to use its knowledge assets in a well managed way and put systems in place that increase the flexibility and ensure the security ofthese important assets.

The field covered by AI is multiform and gathers subjects as various as the engineering of knowledge, the automatic treatment of the language, the training, to quote only some of them. The history of AI knew various periods of evolution passing from periods of doubt at very fertile periods. AI is now in its maturity and did not remain an isolated field of computer science, but approached various fields like statistics, data analysis, linguistics and cognitive psychology or databases. AI is focused on providing solutions to real life problems and is used now in routine in medicine, economics, military or strategy game. This book focuses on subjects including: Machine Learning, Reasoning, Neural Networks, Computer Vision, Planning and Robotics and Multiagent Systems. All the papers collected in this volume would be of interest to any computer scientist or engineer interested in AI.
