Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report on the Chrome Iron Ore Deposits: In the Eastern Townships Province of Quebec, 1909 The rapid progress in the production of chrome iron ore in Canada, since 1902 - as seen from the statistics published - seems to indicate that the work of mining and refining this ore is destined to become of considerable importance among the industries of the Dominion. Up to the year 1902 there was no steady production, and the chrome iron ore deposits were only superficially tested and operated; while their peculiar occurrence added so materially to the difficulties in mining, and to the cost of preparing it for the market, that there was no reasonable margin of profit. Book Synopsis Canada's Relationship with Inuit by : Sarah Bonesteel
Download or read book Canada's Relationship with Inuit written by Sarah Bonesteel and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inuit have lived in Canada's north since time immemorial. The Canadian government's administration of Inuit affairs, however, has been generally shorter and is less well understood than the federal government's relations with First Nations and Métis. We hope to correct some of this knowledge imbalance by providing an overview of the federal government's Inuit policy and program development from first contact to 2006. Topics that are covered by this book include the 1939 Re Eskimo decision that gave Canada constitutional responsibility for Inuit, post World War II acculturation and defence projects, law and justice, sovereignty and relocations, the E-number identification system, Inuit political organizations, comprehensive claim agreements, housing, healthcare, education, economic development, self-government, the environment and urban issues. In order to develop meaningful forward-looking policy, it is essential to understand what has come before and how we got to where we are. We believe that this book will be a valuable contribution to a growing body of knowledge about Canada-Inuit relations, and will be an indispensable resource to all students of federal Inuit and northern policy development.

Book Synopsis Hydrogeology of Crystalline Rocks by : I. Stober
Download or read book Hydrogeology of Crystalline Rocks written by I. Stober and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-12-31 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrogeology of Crystalline Rocks deals with deep groundwater in the granite and gneiss basement of the continents. It has become evident during the past years that highly mineralized water is present in an interconnected fracture network of the basement. Thus, the upper part of the crust of the continents can be viewed as an aquifer and investigated with tools common in hydrogeology. This book presents accounts on water-conducting features of crystalline rocks and summarizes the hydraulic properties of the basement. The volume includes reviews, new data and research on the often remarkable chemical composition of deep groundwater. Microbial processes in the deep basement aquifer are probably more important than previously thought. Two contributions focus on this recent extension of research of the biosphere to greater depth in the Earth. This book represents the first multidisciplinary and integrated account of deep groundwater hydrology in crystalline basement. It is of interest to hydrologists and hydrogeologists working with water in crystalline rocks, but also to solid earth geophysicists, geochemists and petrologists with an interest in fluids in the crust. Scientists involved in nuclear waste disposal programs and geothermal energy development will find a wealth of stimulating ideas in this volume.
