Download or read book International Food Safety Handbook written by Kees Van der Heijden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-05 with total page 1168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covers all aspects of food safety--science, regulation, and labeling requirements--integrating major developments in the fields of toxicology, analytical chemistry, microbiology, hygiene, and nutrition. Designed to be a reference that bridges the gaps between science, regulation and control of food safety. While this might have been a rather ambitious aim, in putting together this book, the editors have certainly succeeded in gathering a group of experts from industry, government agencies, academia, consumer groups and the media whose knowledge and expertise reflect the complex and multisectoral/multidisciplinary nature of food safety." ---Food Science and Technology

Book Synopsis The Genetics of Cancer by : B.A. Ponder
Download or read book The Genetics of Cancer written by B.A. Ponder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been recognized for almost 200 years that certain families seem to inherit cancer. It is only in the past decade, however, that molecular genetics and epidemiology have combined to define the role of inheritance in cancer more clearly, and to identify some of the genes involved. The causative genes can be tracked through cancer-prone families via genetic linkage and positional cloning. Several of the genes discovered have subsequently been proved to play critical roles in normal growth and development. There are also implications for the families themselves in terms of genetic testing with its attendant dilemmas, if it is not clear that useful action will result. The chapters in The Genetics of Cancer illustrate what has already been achieved and take a critical look at the future directions of this research and its potential clinical applications.

Book Synopsis Global Approach in Safety Testing by : Jan Willem van der Laan
Download or read book Global Approach in Safety Testing written by Jan Willem van der Laan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-11 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume will consider one of ICH’s major categories, Safety i.e. topics relating to in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical studies (Carcinogenicity Testing, Genotoxicity Testing, etc.). Since the start of the ICH process, many guidelines have been written, but even after ICH6 no explanations have been given during a formal Congress about the background of the ICH Guidance documents. Even more important than what has been written, might have been those thoughts of the experts that are not included in the Guidance documents. Why has the guideline been written as it is written, and why have some aspects been deleted. These and other related questions are the contents of this book, written by experts who were involved in the ICH process. Furthermore, the chapters will contain discussions on the “lessons learnt” and “future developments”.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Sweeteners by : S. Marie
Download or read book Handbook of Sweeteners written by S. Marie and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of sweetness and sweeteners has recently been an area well served by books at all levels, but this volume was planned to fill what we perceived as a gap in the coverage. There appeared to be no book which attempted to combine a study of sweetness with a thorough but concise coverage of all aspects of sweeteners. We set out to include all the important classes of sweeteners, including materials which do not yet have regulatory approval, so that clear comparisons could be made between them and their technological advantages and disadvantages. To achieve our first aim, of sufficient depth of coverage, the accounts within this volume are comprehensive enough to satisfy the requirements of a demanding readership, but cannot be exhaustive in a single volume of moderate proportions. The second aim, of breadth and conciseness, is satisfied by careful selection of the most pertinent material. For the purposes of this book, a sweetener is assumed to be any substance whose primary effect is to sweeten a food or beverage to be consumed, thus including both the nutritive and non-nutritive varieties, from the ubiquitous sucrose to the lesser known, newer developments in alternative sweeteners. The volume has its contents structured in a logical manner to enable it to be used in an ordered study of the complete subject area or as a convenient reference source.
Book Synopsis Supplementary Mutagenicity Tests by : David J. Kirkland
Download or read book Supplementary Mutagenicity Tests written by David J. Kirkland and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993-11-11 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1993, this volume describes a complementary selection of tests to those described in the companion volume Basic Mutagenicity Tests (Cambridge University Press, 1990). These supplementary tests were used to assess risks of in vitro mutagenicity in those instances where the basic tests were inconclusive. As such, these tests had an important role in the assessment of the safety of compounds, drugs and chemicals. These supplementary test and guidelines, originally drawn up by the United Kingdom Environmental Mutagen Society (UKEMS) were fully revised in this publication to take full account of different regulatory guidelines and scientific advances. This volume will be of value to anyone with aninterest in regulatory affairs, mutagenicity testing and the registration of chemical products in the UK and Europe.
