Book excerpt: Remodeling Your Temple is the second part of a two-part study. It is a practical, biblically based guide that gives the reader valuable information on how to live a healthy lifestyle that glorifies God. This book addresses the physical and emotional components that are needed to live healthy and productive lives. It not only discusses the various factors that are essential to living a life that honors God, but it also gives the reader practical ways that they can make changes to be successful. A proper diet is necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Food has become an issue for many people. People frequently go on "diets," lose weight, and then return to their old eating habits only to gain back the unwanted pounds. Healthy eating is something that needs to be done all the time so that it becomes a way of life, rather than an interruption in life when a person desires to lose weight. Remodeling Your Temple looks at factors that can affect the person's ability to be able to eat healthily. Before doing an intensive study to address the crucial components of eating the proper way, the reader needs to look at other areas, which include stress, attitude, and boundaries. After the readers look at these key components, then they will do a more in-depth study on nutrition to get a better understanding as to what their diet needs to consist of, and how they can make healthy living a way of life. There are many practical ideas in this book to allow the reader to change their diet immediately. The reader will then explore other areas that can hinder or enhance their living a healthy life by understanding the value of exercise, and essential oils as well as removing toxic chemicals from their everyday life. When this study is complete, the reader will have the basics as to how to live a healthy life and appreciate how their body is a temple that honors God. a temple that glorifies God.

Book excerpt: Rebuilding The Temple is the first book of a two-part study. God created us to have a relationship with Him. It is essential the reader recognize their body is a temple that houses the Holy Spirit and is to glorify God. Seeing their body as a temple allows them to know the importance of maintaining all three components (physical, emotional and spiritual) of healthy living that are crucial not only to strengthen their relationship with God but also to fulfill their callings and to find the joy that only God can give them. It all begins with the footings (faith) and foundation (relationship with God) of the temple. The rest of the components are built upon the foundation. If the footings and foundation are weak, it can be hard to maintain a healthy temple when struggles or temptations arise. A person can have a healthy physical body, but if they struggle emotionally or spiritually, they still are not living the life God has chosen for them. Most of us know the basics of eating and exercising to stay fit, and yet many find it hard to implement these principles. By becoming more in tuned to seeing their body as a temple to honor God Laurie hopes that the reader will understand the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Book 1 addresses the spiritual components that are necessary to live healthily. By addressing not only faith but also issues that affect how the readers see themselves they will start seeing themselves as God sees them. To understand their Creator loves them is the climax of building a relationship with God. When a person knows God's love, they can begin to love themselves which in turn helps them want to make healthy choices in the other areas of their life (emotional and physical) which Laurie addresses in Book 2 Remodeling The Interior Of Your Temple.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines temple renovation as a rhetorical topic within royal literature of the ancient Near East. Unlike newly founded temples, which were celebrated for their novelty, temple renovations were oriented toward the past. Kings took the opportunity to rehearse a selective history of the temple, evoking certain past traditions and omitting others. In this way, temple renovations were a kind of historiography. Andrew R. Davis demonstrates a pattern in the rhetoric of temple renovation texts: that kings in ancient Mesopotamia, Israel, Syria and Persia used temple renovation to correct, or at least distance themselves from, some turmoil of recent history and to associate their reigns with an earlier and more illustrious past. Davis draws on the royal literature of the seventh and sixth centuries BCE for main evidence of this rhetoric. Furthermore, he argues for reading the story of Jeroboam I's placement of calves at Dan and Bethel (1 Kgs 12:25-33) as an eighth-century BCE account of temple renovation with a similar rhetoric. Concluding with further examples in the Hellenistic and Roman periods, Reconstructing the Temple demonstrates that the rhetoric of temple renovation was a distinct and longstanding topic in the ancient Near East.

But what about your home in which God is living, the home of your heart?"Do you not understand that you are God's temple, and that God's Spirit has His dwelling in you? If anybody desecrates the temple of God, God will bring him to ruin. It is a holy thing, this temple of God which is nothing other than yourselves." (1 Corinthians 3, 16-17)Do I realize it? My heart is a home for God, His temple. It is a holy thing, this temple of God. If anyone desecrates God's temple, God will bring him to ruin! These are the inspired words of Holy Scripture. How precious must the Temple of my heart be in God's sight!

But changing our outward behavior doesn’t change our hearts. Only by God’s grace can we be transformed internally. Renovation of the Heart lays a biblical foundation for understanding what best-selling author Dallas Willard calls the “transformation of the spirit”—a divine process that “brings every element in our being, working from inside out, into harmony with the will of God.” This fresh approach to spiritual growth explains the biblical reasons why Christians need to undergo change in six aspects of life: thought, feeling, will, body, social context, and soul. Willard also outlines a general pattern of transformation in each area, not as a sterile formula but as a practical process that you can follow without the guilt or perfectionism so many Christians wrestle with. Don’t settle for complacency. Accept the challenge Renovation of the Heart offers to become an intentional apprentice of Jesus Christ, changing daily as you walk with Him.

Book excerpt: Award Winner in the Science category of the 2020 Best Book Awards sponsored by American Book Fest Award-winning author and thought leader Dawson Church, Ph.D., blends cutting-edge neuroscience with intense firsthand experience to show you how you can rewire your brain for happiness-starting right now. Neural plasticity-the discovery that the brain is capable of rewiring itself-is now widely understood. But what few people have grasped yet is how quickly this is happening, how extensive brain changes can be, and how much control each of us has over the process. In Bliss Brain, famed researcher Dawson Church digs deep into leading-edge science, and finds stunning evidence of rapid and radical brain change. In just eight weeks of practice, 12 minutes a day, using the right techniques, we can produce measurable changes in our brains. These make us calmer, happier, and more resilient. When we cultivate these pleasurable states over time, they become traits. We don't just feel more blissful as a temporary state; the changes are literally hard-wired into our brains, becoming stable and enduring personality traits. The startling conclusions of Church's research show that neural remodeling goes much farther than scientists have previously understood, with stress circuits shriveling over time. Simultaneously, "The Enlightenment Circuit"-associated with happiness, compassion, productivity, creativity, and resilience-expands. During deep meditation, Church shows how "the 7 neurochemicals of ecstasy" are released in our brains. These include anandamide, a neurotransmitter that's been named "the bliss molecule" because it mimics the effects of THC, the active ingredient in cannabis. It boosts serotonin and dopamine; the first is an analog of psilocybin, the second of cocaine. He shows how cultivating these elevated emotional states literally produces a self-induced high. While writing Bliss Brain, Church went through a series of disasters, including escaping seconds ahead of a California wildfire that consumed his home and office and claimed 22 lives. The fire triggered a painful medical condition and a financial disaster. Through it all, Church steadily practiced the techniques of Bliss Brain while teaching them to thousands of other people. This book weaves his story of resilience into the fabric of neuroscience, producing a fascinating picture of just how happy we can make our brains, no matter what the odds.

Remodelista.com is the go-to, undisputed authority for home design enthusiasts, remodelers, architects, and designers. Unlike sites that cater to all tastes, Remodelista has a singular and clearly defined aesthetic: classic pieces trump designs that are trendy and transient, and well-edited spaces take precedence over cluttered environments. High and low mix seamlessly here, and getting the look need not be expensive (think Design Within Reach meets Ikea). Remodelista decodes the secrets to achieving this aesthetic, with in-depth tours and lessons from 12 enviable homes; a recipe-like breakdown of the hardest-working kitchens and baths; dozens of do-it-yourself projects; “The Remodelista 100,” a guide to the best everyday household objects; and an in-depth look at the ins and outs of the remodeling process. In a world of design confusion, Remodelista takes the guesswork out of the process.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Believer and unbeliever alike are subtly evangelized every day of their lives by the ambient glow of God’s cinematic masterpiece. They sense something grand but are confused by the incoherent cultural edits scattered throughout the film. The Good News is that the deleted scenes are not lost but can be found in our shared human experiences, and once spliced back together reveal an epic of Biblical proportions, The Director’s Cut of the Greatest Story Ever Told. Dr. Erik Strandness takes a unique “bottom up” approach to apologetics by investigating experiences common to all people and concluding that they can only be adequately understood through a Biblical filter. The goal is to empower lay Christians to confidently share their faith in a concrete, friendly, real-world context that effectively engages the day-to-day realities of their audience. Dr. Strandness writes in a clear, engaging, and witty style, combining the thoughts of many great Christian thinkers with culturally relevant illustrations in order to make a solid real world case for the Christian worldview. “Once in a while, someone manages to put ageless truth in such a fresh package that it cries out, ‘Read on!’ That’s the way I felt when reviewing Erik Strandness’s book. What a pleasure it is to read! But it’s not just Erik’s engaging word images that make it such a great read. It’s the profound and timely message he is communicating in such an intelligent and winsome way. This is a book you will be telling others about.” —Dr. Christian Overman, Director, Worldview Matters, biblicalworldview.com

Book excerpt: India, late 19th century. Two thugs break into a hut around midnight, and without explanation, they kill the gravedigger who sleeps inside. Then, they set the building on fire with his son inside and disappear without a trace. In spite of everything, the young pariah manages to escape miraculously from the flames and saves his life. Stunned and confused, the boy arrives at an old nearby abbey, whose monks soon take pity on him and offer him shelter. During the following years, Nagesh grows under the protection of the religious, from whom he receives food and a good education. However, his peaceful monastic life fails to mitigate the desire for revenge that has emerged in his head since that night. A very difficult desire to realize, on the other hand, since from day one, and without revealing the reasons, the bishop who heads the congregation prohibits Nagesh from setting foot outside the monastery. Gradually, the veto will become increasingly unbearable, especially after, in a furtive getaway, Nagesh meets Shefali, a beautiful Hindu girl who sells flowers in the market. But the bishop can no longer yield, he fears that the boy ends up discovering the sickly secret that encloses the past and, with it, the designs that show books, temples and constellations that light up the sky finally come true.

Bible-Based Prayer Power moves readers into a more vibrant prayer life by making Bible promises practical and personal.
