Book excerpt: A short visit to his hometown of Purdy, Tennessee rekindled the interest of native son and former Confederate Brigadier General Marcus J. Wright in the history and people of McNairy County, Tennessee. With the help of many old friends, he compiled their collective memories into a short publication published in 1882. It was one of the earliest published county histories in West Tennessee. BrayBree Publishing is proud to present this special Vintage Edition of Wright's county history. In addition to an authentic reproduction of the original book, it also includes a biographical sketch of the author, new illustrations, an expanded index, and Wright's own memoirs, which have never been published.

Book Synopsis Franklin County, Ohio: A Collection Of Reminiscences Of The Early Settlement by : William T. Martin
Download or read book Franklin County, Ohio: A Collection Of Reminiscences Of The Early Settlement written by William T. Martin and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is the design of this book to preserve for the people of Franklin County an imperishable record of its early history — now existing only in scattering and detached papers and records, which are every year wasting away. To write the history of a single county, may to some appear like a very small business; while to others it is considered very desirable that someone should do so in every county. How else are the names and memory of our early settlers and friends to be preserved? And who is there that would not be pleased to look back, or to have his children look back, upon some record of his early days, and of departed friends? . It has been the writer's object in this compilation, to give a correct statement of all events worthy of remembrance, with their proper dates, so as to form a book of ready reference, such as will be convenient and interesting to all residents of the county.
Book Synopsis Bending Their Way Onward by : Christopher D. Haveman
Download or read book Bending Their Way Onward written by Christopher D. Haveman and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2018-02 with total page 834 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1827 and 1837 approximately twenty-three thousand Creek Indians were transported across the Mississippi River, exiting their homeland under extreme duress and complex pressures. During the physically and emotionally exhausting journey, hundreds of Creeks died, dozens were born, and almost no one escaped without emotional scars caused by leaving the land of their ancestors. Bending Their Way Onward is an extensive collection of letters and journals describing the travels of the Creeks as they moved from Alabama to present-day Oklahoma. This volume includes documents related to the “voluntary” emigrations that took place beginning in 1827 as well as the official conductor journals and other materials documenting the forced removals of 1836 and the coerced relocations of 1836 and 1837. This volume also provides a comprehensive list of muster rolls from the voluntary emigrations that show the names of Creek families and the number of slaves who moved west. The rolls include many prominent Indian countrymen (such as white men married to Creek women) and Creeks of mixed parentage. Additional biographical data for these Creek families is included whenever possible. Bending Their Way Onward is the most exhaustive collection to date of previously unpublished documents related to this pivotal historical event.
