Book Synopsis Modelling and Applications of Transport Phenomena in Porous Media by : Jacob Bear
Download or read book Modelling and Applications of Transport Phenomena in Porous Media written by Jacob Bear and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1991-11-30 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport phenomenain porous media are encounteredin various disciplines, e. g. , civil engineering, chemical engineering, reservoir engineering, agricul tural engineering and soil science. In these disciplines, problems are en countered in which various extensive quantities, e. g. , mass and heat, are transported through a porous material domain. Often, the void space of the porous material contains two or three fluid phases, and the various ex tensive quantities are transported simultaneously through the multiphase system. In all these disciplines, decisions related to a system's development and its operation have to be made. To do so a tool is needed that will pro vide a forecast of the system's response to the implementation of proposed decisions. This response is expressed in the form of spatial and temporal distributions of the state variables that describe the system's behavior. Ex amples of such state variables are pressure, stress, strain, density, velocity, solute concentration, temperature, etc. , for each phase in the system, The tool that enables the required predictions is the model. A model may be defined as a simplified version of the real porous medium system and the transport phenomena that occur in it. Because the model is a sim plified version of the real system, no unique model exists for a given porous medium system. Different sets of simplifying assumptions, each suitable for a particular task, will result in different models.
Book Synopsis Radiological Safety Aspects of the Operation of Electron Linear Accelerators by : William P. Swanson
Download or read book Radiological Safety Aspects of the Operation of Electron Linear Accelerators written by William P. Swanson and published by Bernan Press(PA). This book was released on 1979 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron linear accelerators are being used throughout the world in increasing numbers in a variety of important applications. Foremost among these is their role in the treatment of cancer. Commercial uses include non-destructive testing by radiography, food preservation, product sterilization and radiation processing of materials such as plastics and adhesives. Scientific applications include investigations in radiation biology, radiation chemistry, nuclear and elementary particle physics and radiation research. This manual provides authoritative guidance in radiation protection for this important category of radiation sources.
Book Synopsis Principles of Petroleum Reservoir Engineering by : Gian L. Chierici
Download or read book Principles of Petroleum Reservoir Engineering written by Gian L. Chierici and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six years ago, at the end of my professional career in the oil industry, I left my management position within Agip S.p.A., a major multinational oil company whose headquarters are in Italy, to take up the chair in reservoir engineering at the University of Bologna, Italy. There, I decided to prepare what was initially intended to be a set of lecture notes for the students attending the course. However, while preparing these notes, I became so absorbed in the subject matter that I soon found myself creating a substantial volume of text which could not only serve as a university course material, but also as a reference for wider professional applications. Thanks to the interest shown by the then president of Agip, Ing. Giuseppe Muscarella, this did indeed culminate in the publication of the first Italian edition of this book in 1989. The translation into English and publication of these volumes owes much to the encouragement of the current president of Agip, Ing. Guglielmo Moscato. My grateful thanks are due to both gentlemen. And now - the English version, translated from the second Italian edition, and containing a number of revisions and much additional material. As well as providing a solid theoretical basis for the various topics, this work draws extensively on my 36 years of worldwide experience in the development and exploitation of oil and gas fields.
