Download or read book Remarks on the Unitarian Belief written by Nehemiah Adams and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Remarks on the Unitarian Belief: With a Letter to an Unitarian Friend on the Lord's Supper The first part of this book was originally a Review of a Treatise "On the Formation of the Christian Character; addressed to those who are seeking to lead a Religious Life, - By Rev. Henry Ware, Jr., Professor in the Divinity School, Cambridge." The article was written as the most convenient method of complying with the request of several friends that the Book, which had been placed in the hands of many of their acquaintances, should receive some notice. Whilst the Book commends itself by its simplicity of thought and expression, and by the unaffected seriousness which pervades it, the deficiency in its directions is not so manifest to those in whom religious interest is accompanied with a confiding feeling, which oftentimes prevents discrimination. Being requested to reprint the Review, the writer has given it its present form, with the addition of Remarks on a Tract by the same Author, called, an 'Outline of Scripture Testimony against the Trinity.' It was thought important to enlarge upon the latter subject, and to present the objections to the Doctrine by means of some Unitarian Treatise; but if a better Tract, by another, could have been found, it would, for obvious reasons, have been adopted. That part of the book which treats of the Lord's Supper, will explain itself. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis Faith Under Siege by : Anatole Browde
Download or read book Faith Under Siege written by Anatole Browde and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unknown to most Americans, Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams and Benjamin Franklin were Unitarians. Today their beliefs have been called heretic or Christian, godless or liberal, argumentative or religious, or all of the above. Anatole Browde, an active Unitarian since 1948, uses history and theology to place these conflicting qualities into a unified liberal Judeo-Christian context. Browde is convinced that faith is besieged because Unitarian church goers have diverse belief systems. The power of the original Unitarian idea that God is one is too close to a creed and is therefore often devalued. Using sermons and essays by ministers and philosophers, Browde shows how Unitarianism beliefs dating from the sixteenth century overcame the restrictions of Calvinist predestination and sin, to become a worldwide free religion. Unitarians are free to believe in God, be humanists, have faith in an unknown, or in Christ as a prophet. His narrative provides an insight to the controversies that plagued believers throughout Unitarian history and demonstrates that the concepts of God and faith can make every service a celebration of joy and love.

Book excerpt: The Gadfly Papers is a collection of three essays written by Rev. Dr. Todd F. Eklof about the negative impacts the emerging culture of Political Correctness, Safetyism, and Identitarianism is having on America's most liberal religion. It's written specifically for Unitarian Universalists who care about the future of their faith, but will prove of interest to anyone seeking to understand how today's identity politics can fundamentally alter any institution, and presents a seminal case-study for researchers of this timely subject. The Gadfly Papers is a substantive, well argued work that's based on plenty of credible scholarship, yet is written in a conversational tone that makes its complex subject matter easy to understand. Whether you're a Unitarian Universalist, a student of history, social science, politics, or simply value the rare but refreshing application of logic, The Gadfly Papers is a book you won't put down until it's finished.
