The then current New Jersey statistics included 123 reports of suspected child abuse every day which amounted to approximately 45, 000 reports for 1984 alone. These statistics stated that only 2% of the aforementioned reports involve abuse in an institution, either a center, a hospital, a school or a state facility. Toward combating child abuse in New Jersey, an family help line as well as dedicated reporting line were set up, along with preventive services and crisis intervention.
