Book Synopsis International Handbook of Inter-religious Education by : Kath Engebretson
Download or read book International Handbook of Inter-religious Education written by Kath Engebretson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-17 with total page 1175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook is based on the conviction of its editors and contributing authors that understanding and acceptance of, as well as collaboration between religions has essential educational value. The development of this Handbook rests on the f- ther assumption that interreligious education has an important role in elucidating the global demand for human rights, justice, and peace. Interreligious education reveals that the creeds and holy books of the world’s religions teach about sp- itual systems that reject violence and the individualistic pursuit of economic and political gain, and call their followers to compassion for every human being. It also seeks to lead students to an awareness that the followers of religions across the world need to be, and to grow in, dialogical relationships of respect and understa- ing. An essential aim of interreligious education is the promotion of understanding and engagement between people of different religions and, therefore, it has great potential to contribute to the common good of the global community. Interreligious education has grown from the interfaith movement, whose beg- ning is usually identi?ed with the World Parliament of Religions held in Chicago in 1893. This was the ?rst time in history that leaders of the eastern and we- ern religions had come together for dialogue, and to consider working together for global unity.

Book Synopsis Soteriologies of India and Their Role in the Perception of Disability by : Anand Rao
Download or read book Soteriologies of India and Their Role in the Perception of Disability written by Anand Rao and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2004 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the turn of the century and the beginning of the new Millennium, India has made extraordinary industrial and economic progress. At the same time the sub-continent is faced with innumerable problems in the area of basic social services. Religion plays an important role in the interpersonal relationship and social interaction of the people. Religion is not only worship and prayer, but dictates such factors as who could come in physical contact with the other and who has the right to draw water from a well and who is deprived of it. Because of these factors it is necessary to look at the perception of disability in the soteriologies of India. This study confines itself to Hinduism as the major religion of India, that is based on the achievement of salvation and thus to escape the cycle of birth-, death- and rebirth and Christianity, on the other hand, that is involved in trying to improve the conditions of the poor and the needy and its main precept is the love of neighbours. It would be interesting to pursue these distinctions in reviewing the perception of disability in both these religions.
Book Synopsis The People and the People of God by : Hans Ucko
Download or read book The People and the People of God written by Hans Ucko and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2002 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jewish-Christian dialogue continues to be a challenge for Christian theology, calling for a rethinking of Christian hermeneutics. Hans Ucko widens the arena for Jewish-Christian dialogue and proposes a constructive interaction between contextual theologies and Jewish-Christian dialogue. Minjung theology from South Korea and Dalit theology from India have creatively worked with the concepts people, peoplehood and People of God. The Jewish-Christian dialogue has likewise delved into the question of People of God. An encounter between these two worlds might be mutually enriching and challenging.
Book Synopsis Religion and Difference by : Trygve Wyller
Download or read book Religion and Difference written by Trygve Wyller and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2019-11-11 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In democracies of advanced plurality, religion is a contested and powerful part of public discussions and practices. Today, religious difference is articulated and negotiated controversially in interaction with other spheres of society. While there are clear tendencies of increasing polarization, we also encounter moments of acknowledgement and appreciation of plurality. Facing these complexities and challenges of our time, this volume scrutinizes contested practices where religious difference matters. Committed to an interdisciplinary exchange between theology, the study of religion and political philosophy, this volume is grounded in the attention for concrete practices and phenomena as well as the conviction that difference is both a productive concept and an enriching experience. Exploring practices of shared places, sexuality, justice and the commitment to the human being in education, migration and violent conflicts, the volume as a whole contributes to the analysis of contested social and political practices in order to investigate the significance and role of religion in contemporary societies, and thus it further develops theoretical reflection about religion in contemporary research.
Book Synopsis Weal and Woe by : Reinder Ruard Ganzevoort
Download or read book Weal and Woe written by Reinder Ruard Ganzevoort and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2008 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume of the Kampen research group in practical theology and ethics reflects on some striking results of quantitative and qualitative research among Dutch students of Christian teacher colleges. Most of the students, who are preparing for the profession of primary school teacher, make hardly any reference to religious concepts such as salvation or evil. Three interviews bring to light interesting constructions of biography, religion and faith, in which relations with parents, friends, and fellow students along with the struggle for a coherent (religious) view on life figure prominently.

Book Synopsis Globalisation – Cultures – Religions / Globalisierung – Kulturen – Religionen by :
Download or read book Globalisation – Cultures – Religions / Globalisierung – Kulturen – Religionen written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The process of Globalisation has subjected cultures, religions and societies or communities of the world to fundamental changes, which are primarily characterised and conditioned by new communication technologies, migration, worldwide exchange of goods and capital. This development has led to the rise of plural societies, which not only mean chances and opportunities but also a potential of threat for the future of humanity. Subsequent to this development this international conference addresses the question of how living together in a global age could succeed and be fruitful.
Download or read book Zur Kultur des Dialogs - Religionshistorische und entwicklungspsychologische Beobachtungen written by Martin Bauschke and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2007-03-01 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis State, Law and Religion in Pluralistic Societies - Austrian and Indonesian Perspectives by : Richard Potz

This book was released on 2010 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributions of this volume present experiences and best-practice examples in managing religious diversity from a legal, political and local perspective. It marks an interesting point for the on-going discussion on integration and participation of Muslims in Europe and shows the need for exchanging knowledge and experience in this field - especially to fulfil the challenges in a globalized world. This volume combines contributions from the Austrian-Indonesian Dialogue Symposium State, Law and Religion in Pluralistic Societies - Austrian and Indonesian Perspectives, held in May 2009 in Vienna, organized by the Austrian and the Indonesian Ministry for Foreign Affairs in co-operation with the Faculty of Law. This symposium marked an important step in strengthening the dialog between the countries, both on the level of civil service, universities and religious communities.

Book Synopsis Landscape, Religion, and the Supernatural by : Matthias Egeler
Download or read book Landscape, Religion, and the Supernatural written by Matthias Egeler and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first study to tackle the relationship between landscape and religion in-depth. Author Matthias Egeler overviews previous theories of the relationship between landscape and religion and then pushes this theorizing further with a rich case study: the supernatural landscape of the Icelandic Westfjords. There, religion and the supernatural--from churches to elf hills--are ubiquitous in the landscape and, as Egeler shows, this example sheds entirely new light on core aspects of the relationship between landscape, religion, and the supernatural.
