This book was released on 2020-07-01 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), are a set of more than 30 health disorders associated with both the temporomandibular joints and the muscles and tissues of the jaw. TMDs have a range of causes and often co-occur with a number of overlapping medical conditions, including headaches, fibromyalgia, back pain and irritable bowel syndrome. TMDs can be transient or long-lasting and may be associated with problems that range from an occasional click of the jaw to severe chronic pain involving the entire orofacial region. Everyday activities, including eating and talking, are often difficult for people with TMDs, and many of them suffer with severe chronic pain due to this condition. Common social activities that most people take for granted, such as smiling, laughing, and kissing, can become unbearable. This dysfunction and pain, and its associated suffering, take a terrible toll on affected individuals, their families, and their friends. Individuals with TMDs often feel stigmatized and invalidated in their experiences by their family, friends, and, often, the health care community. Misjudgments and a failure to understand the nature and depths of TMDs can have severe consequences - more pain and more suffering - for individuals, their families and our society. Temporomandibular Disorders: Priorities for Research and Care calls on a number of stakeholders - across medicine, dentistry, and other fields - to improve the health and well-being of individuals with a TMD. This report addresses the current state of knowledge regarding TMD research, education and training, safety and efficacy of clinical treatments of TMDs, and burden and costs associated with TMDs. The recommendations of Temporomandibular Disorders focus on the actions that many organizations and agencies should take to improve TMD research and care and improve the overall health and well-being of individuals with a TMD.

Book excerpt: While the intimate connection between mind and body has long been studied and applied to treat back, heart, skin, and gastrointestinal system pain, this book clearly explains how the mind can initiate changes in the body that result in persistent pain in the mouth, ears, jaw, forehead, and other facial areas. Detailed case studies clearly describe the relief from pain that patients finally feel, either through an understanding of the 'brain-pain' connection alone or in combination with traditional pain-relieving medications and technologies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book was to offer an overview of recent insights into the current state of arthroplasty. The tremendous long term success of Sir Charnley's total hip arthroplasty has encouraged many researchers to treat pain, improve function and create solutions for higher quality of life. Indeed and as described in a special chapter of this book, arthroplasty is an emerging field in the joints of upper extremity and spine. However, there are inborn complications in any foreign design brought to the human body. First, in the chapter on infections we endeavor to provide a comprehensive, up-to-date analysis and description of the management of this difficult problem. Second, the immune system is faced with a strange material coming in huge amounts of micro-particles from the tribology code. Therefore, great attention to the problem of aseptic loosening has been addressed in special chapters on loosening and on materials currently available for arthroplasty.

Book excerpt: We've been sold a lie: The world tells us that pain is inevitable, that our bodies must break down as we age, and that there's nothing we can do about it. Researchers develop new drugs to manage our pain; surgeons dream up new techniques to repair worn-out joints. But we never truly feel better. Here's the shocking truth: The vast majority of the pain that plagues our aging bodies is self-inflicted. It's caused by the way we use our bodies every day: the way we sit, the way we stand, the way we walk and run, even the way you open a jar of pasta sauce. But with simple exercises, anybody can learn to heal their chronic musculoskeletal pain, and prevent future pain, injury, and joint problems from developing. The Pain Relief Secret explores the fascinating science of pain, and instructs readers in Clinical Somatics, a method of neuromuscular education that relieves chronic muscle tightness, restores natural posture and movement, and eliminates pain. Students of Clinical Somatics have healed from chronic back pain, joint and nerve pain, scoliosis, and many other common pain conditions. Best of all, Clinical Somatics puts the power in your hands. You don't need special training or expensive repeat visits to a physical therapist. Clinical Somatics exercises are practiced on your own and in your very own home. This is The Pain Relief Secret: your key to taking back your body from a lifetime of pain. This book is great for anyone who has tried surgery, drugs, chiropractic treatments, naturopathy, yoga, physiotherapy, or massage therapy and still experiences chronic pain.

Book excerpt: Treatment Isn't One-Size-Fits-All In today's world, health care can be unforgiving, impersonal, and frustrating. Some doctors will only prescribe symptomatic care--to the point that weekly doctor visits become the norm. It doesn't have to be that way. There is more at the root of health problems than most people would think, and part of healing is knowing enough to ask the correct questions. Drs. Edmund and Lynn Lipskis wrote Breathe, Sleep, Live, Smile: Integrative Treatments for TMJ, Sleep Apnea and Orthodontics to address issues in their field of expertise, and to also highlight the importance of getting to the root of your medical problems in order to eliminate the symptoms which negatively impact your life. This book includes information about: - the relationship between TMJ, chronic pain, and sleep apnea/breathing issues; - the importance of integrative treatments and professional/patient collaboration; - getting to the source of your pain for more permanent solutions without drugs; and - the importance of evaluating children as young as two years old to help prevent major health issues. Every presenting set of symptoms has a different roadmap to health. Don't wait--learn how to get to the source of your health problems before you fall into the cycle of endless treatment.
