Book Synopsis Work and Inequality in Urban China by : Yanjie Bian
Download or read book Work and Inequality in Urban China written by Yanjie Bian and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1994-01-11 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a systematic analysis of the impact of work organization on the social stratification of individuals in urban China. It explains why economic and labor market segmentation is possible and necessary in state socialism at a certain stage of its development, as in market capitalism, and how important one's work unit or danwei is to the life of socialist workers in Chinese cities. Based on survey data, personal interviews, and official statistics, the author shows that structural allocation, status inheritance, educational achievement, political virtue, and interpersonal connections (guanxi) interplay in determining an individual's opportunities for entering and moving into a desirable place to work, for obtaining Communist party membership and an elite class status, and for receiving material compensation such as wages, bonuses, fringe benefits, housing, and home locations.

Book excerpt: It was our intention to organize IAIT 2010 as the place where researchers and ind- trial practitioners could share their work and achievements in information technology, both theoretical and in application. This is the fourth time we have organized IAIT to serve as a venue to foster collaboration among industry and academia from different parts of the world. A lot has been achieved since the launch of the first IAIT in 2005; however, many challenges remain to be addressed in the years to come. IAIT 2010 drew attendance from leading professionals in both industry and academes, as in IAIT 2009. In addition to the relevant program offered by IAIT 2010, the conference p- vided an excellent environment to meet peers in the IT profession, build relationships, and exchange lessons learned. During the conference, participants presented and d- cussed the latest topics in information technology, ranging from technical knowledge and experimentation to future strategic directions. As the Internet continues to reach out even further, almost everything in our daily life is accessible via IP addresses, our societies need to recognize that we need new knowledge to make this advancement become a benefit to all life in this world. It is almost impossible to gain this new knowledge without contributions from our c- leagues, working in various aspects of information technology. Some times, new knowledge found in one area can help simplify difficult task in another. Together we can make our world better by creating applications from information technology.
Book Synopsis World Trade Organization Expansion Between China and Taiwan by : Zhengqiang Chen
Download or read book World Trade Organization Expansion Between China and Taiwan written by Zhengqiang Chen and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine what categories of training programs have been provided by companies to improve employee job performance (e.g., product quality improvement, increased productivity and services, and increased satisfaction in employees) since Taiwan and China joined the WTO. Additionally, this study sought to determine how the training programs to improve employee job performance at certain companies were implemented. This research examined the relationship between training expenditure (time and fiscal) and HRD managers' perceptions of the effect of training on employee job performance. This study also focused on whether there were significant training time and fiscal expenditure differences between Taiwanese businesses in Taipei and Chinese businesses in Shanghai. Lastly, this research examined whether HRD managers believed that employees with a two-to-five-year technology-based college or university degree required less training than did employees without such education. This study involved 250 HRD managers of Taiwanese and Chinese businesses. This study used descriptive statistical methods to report the frequencies for quantitative variables. Correlational research was used to discover whether there was a relationship between different variables. Based on the analysis and the findings of this study, the training programs of total quality management, customer service skills, and business English were most important to improve employee job performance. Industries should increase the use of outside HRD companies for training programs on site. In addition, Kendall's tau-c analysis showed that time and fiscal expenditure on employee training and the HRD managers' perceptions that employee training had a positive effect on employee job performance after Taiwan and China joined the WTO were significant, but a negative correlation existed. Moreover, Chi-square analysis demonstrated that there was no significant difference in time and expenditure allocation for employee training between Taiwanese and Chinese businesses. Lastly, both Taiwanese and Chinese HRD managers strongly believed that employees with a two-to-five-year technology college or university degree required less training than employees without such education. In conclusion, recommendations were offered for industries and government policy-makers: namely, human resource training and development should be implemented, because it was very important to cultivate e-generation manpower with good information technology, English, and creative skills.

Book Synopsis Organizational Commitment and Knowledge Sharing in Contemporary Companies by : Anna Wziątek-Staśko

This book was released on 2022-03-08 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When evaluating the success of an organization, the value of employees’ organizational commitment and the process of knowledge sharing among staff must be considered. As illustrated in this volume, these two concepts are key conditions for organizational success in the contemporary world. This book explores the concept of organizational commitment, what it is, and how to use and understand the value in knowledge management and sharing for both employees and organizations as a whole. A profound analysis of the global literature exposes organizational commitment and knowledge sharing as key determinants of the effectiveness of the organization management process, including human capital management. While much space in the literature on the subject is devoted to the exploration of the above-mentioned concepts, treated as categories subject to separate analysis, the diagnosis and analysis of the relationship between them should be treated as a poorly recognized process. This book fills a research gap, providing a theoretical foundation and important information on organizational commitment and knowledge sharing, highlighting the relationship between both research categories. It will be of interest to researchers, academics, practitioners, and students in the fields of human resource management, leadership, and organizational studies.
