The development in science education records various attempts in measuring attitudes and determining the correlations between behaviour, achievements, career aspirations, gender identity and cultural inclination. Since Noll’ (1935) seminal work on measuring the scientific attitudes, a steady stream of research papers that describe development and validation of scales appear in scholarly publications. Despite these efforts the progress in this area has been stagnated by limited understanding of the conception about attitude, dimensionality and inability to determine the multitude of variables that made up such concept. This book makes an attempt to take stock and critically examine the classical views on science attitudes and explore the contemporary attempts in measuring science related attitudes. The chapters in this book are reflection of researchers who work tirelessly in promoting science education and will illuminate the current trends and future scenarios in attitude measurement.

Book excerpt: This study aimed to examine the impact of constructivist pedagogy on student achievement in the sciences at the secondary level of instruction. In recent years, constructivist pedagogy has been promoted by a number of educational associations, and has been implemented at a greater frequency in science classrooms. Eighteen middle school science and seven high school biology teachers from three public school districts in Southeastern Pennsylvania were the participants in this study. Data were collected by the participants' responses on a teacher survey, which indicated the degree to which they use constructivist pedagogy in science lessons. Student achievement from the 2018-2019 science PSSA and Keystone Biology examinations was also used in this study. Correlational analysis was conducted to determine if there was any relationship between the use of constructivist pedagogy by the teachers and student achievement in the sciences. The results of the study showed no correlation between the use of constructivist pedagogy by the participants and student achievement. However, other results generated by the study warrant further investigation as to how both pre-service and in-service training can influence the pedagogical decisions of science teachers. Future studies should consider investigating the impact of constructivist pedagogy on students' acquisition of specific learning skills, and also students' attitudes towards the sciences.
