Book Synopsis The History of the Reinforced Demonstrative in Nordic by : Eric T. Lander
Download or read book The History of the Reinforced Demonstrative in Nordic written by Eric T. Lander and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-10-26 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The task of reconstructing the reinforced demonstrative paradigm for early Nordic has been called “impossible” by the eminent Einar Haugen. In The History of the Reinforced Demonstrative in Nordic, Eric T. Lander aims to accomplish exactly this, by way of an exhaustive study of the pronoun’s attestations in the Viking Age runic inscriptions, which are the earliest forms of this item to be recorded in Scandinavia. The detailed picture of regional variation that emerges is then used to inform reconstructions of the paradigm from Proto-Nordic to Common Nordic. The book represents the first serious attempt in historical-comparative linguistics to grapple with the morphological development of the North-West Germanic reinforced demonstrative since the work of 19th-century scholars like Sophus Bugge.

Book Synopsis The U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, 1951-2001 by : Orlo K. Steele
Download or read book The U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, 1951-2001 written by Orlo K. Steele and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Foreword: The following account represents a significant look at a half century of U.S. Marine Corps effort in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California. This has been and is still the location of the Corps cold weather and mountain training facility. Over time the needs and demands for Marines and units prepared to operate under these conditions waxed and waned with the real world requirements of deployed forces. This was reflected in the realities of conflicts in the Korean Peninsula, the Cold War's northern and southern flanks, and in the current Global War in Terrorism fight in Afghanistan and elsewhere. While the future is often uncertain, this firm look at the past is useful to show how previous challenges have prompted creative and innovative responses. This is as much a story of evolution as an institution.--p. iii.
Book Synopsis New Directions in Strategic Thinking by : Robert O'Neill
Download or read book New Directions in Strategic Thinking written by Robert O'Neill and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-01-26 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1981, examines the broader aspects of international strategic relations, and analyses Cold War developments within particular nations, fields of warfare and areas of political-military interaction. The role of force in international society changed as the nuclear deadlock between the superpowers continued, with military forces being deployed for political purposes in situations only just short of war. The balance between NATO and Warsaw Pact forces also changed as American technology increased and short-range nuclear missiles were deployed in Europe. This book also examines the development of strategic thinking in China, Japan and India, as well as insurgency in the Third World, so often the site for proxy superpower conflict.

Book Synopsis Reinforced Concrete with FRP Bars by : Antonio Nanni
Download or read book Reinforced Concrete with FRP Bars written by Antonio Nanni and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-03-05 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion-resistant, electromagnetic transparent and lightweight fiber-reinforced polymers (FRPs) are accepted as valid alternatives to steel in concrete reinforcement. Reinforced Concrete with FRP Bars: Mechanics and Design, a technical guide based on the authors’ more than 30 years of collective experience, provides principles, algorithms, and practical examples. Well-illustrated with case studies on flexural and column-type members, the book covers internal, non-prestressed FRP reinforcement. It assumes some familiarity with reinforced concrete, and excludes prestressing and near-surface mounted reinforcement applications. The text discusses FRP materials properties, and addresses testing and quality control, durability, and serviceability. It provides a historical overview, and emphasizes the ACI technical literature along with other research worldwide. Includes an explanation of the key physical mechanical properties of FRP bars and their production methods Provides algorithms that govern design and detailing, including a new formulation for the use of FRP bars in columns Offers a justification for the development of strength reduction factors based on reliability considerations Uses a two –story building solved in Mathcad® that can become a template for real projects This book is mainly intended for practitioners and focuses on the fundamentals of performance and design of concrete members with FRP reinforcement and reinforcement detailing. Graduate students and researchers can use it as a valuable resource. Antonio Nanni is a professor at the University of Miami and the University of Naples Federico II. Antonio De Luca and Hany Zadeh are consultant design engineers.
