Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbon emissions from the retail segment of the food cold chain are relatively high compared to other parts of the food cold chain. Studies have also shown that food temperature is less well controlled at the retail and consumer end of the cold chain. There is therefore considerable potential to optimize performance of refrigerated display cabinets and the refrigeration systems that are used to operate them to reduce carbon emissions and to improve food temperature control. Sustainable Retail Refrigeration draws together world experts on retail refrigeration. In a single resource, the authors cover the latest technologies and best current knowledge in the field. With increasing concerns about energy use and global warming gasses, retailers are increasingly being called to account for their actions. Sustainable Retail Refrigeration is a valuable reference to manufacturers, managers and policy makers, incorporating both a design and an operational perspective.

It represents between 40 and 70% of the energy consumption in commercial buildings. The demand of energy for air conditioning systems is expected to increase further in the next decades due to the population growth, the new economic boom, and the urbanization development. The rapid growth of air conditioning and electricity consumption will contribute further to climate change if fossil and nonrenewable resources are used. More energy-efficient and renewable energy-based air conditioning systems to accomplish space cooling are needed. This book intends to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art in sustainable air conditioning technologies and focus on the most recent research and development on green air conditioning systems including energy-efficient and renewable energy-based air conditioning systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In its 11th edition the International Conference on Sustainable Development and Planning continues to attract academics, policy makers, practitioners and other stakeholders from across the globe who discuss the latest advances in the field. This volume presents selected papers that contribute to further advances in the field. Energy saving and eco-friendly building approaches have become an important part of modern development, which places special emphasis on resource optimisation. Planning has a key role to play in ensuring that these solutions as well as new materials and processes are incorporated in the most efficient manner. Problems related to development and planning, which affect rural and urban areas, are present in all regions of the world. Accelerated urbanisation has resulted in deterioration of the environment and loss of quality of life. Urban development can also aggravate problems faced by rural areas such as forests, mountain regions and coastal areas, amongst many others. Taking into consideration the interaction between different regions and developing new methodologies for monitoring, planning and implementation of novel strategies can offer solutions for mitigating environmental pollution and non-sustainable use of available resources.

This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades society has increased its concern about environmental protection, in order to achieve the goal of sustainable development. However, there are several economic sectors like refrigeration industry, which still are cause for a wide number of environmental impacts and, therefore, require improvement in their processes. The purpose of this final work is to establish the current state of the art regarding Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC), particularized to their applicability to household refrigerators. In order to accomplish this, first a bibliographical research has been carried out to find the published literature on the subject to recent date. Finally, a quantitatively and qualitatively reference dataset of the publications recovered from the research has been done. The elaboration of the work has not been free of limitations, since there have been restriction on access to scientific articles. So, the objective is to generate and analyse a base of environmental and economic criteria to support and help producers of refrigerators in the manufacture and production of the same. Starting from the theoretical definition of these different methodologies (LCA, LCC), it is followed by the state of the art in the refrigeration industry, trying to analyse the optimization practices proposed by the many authors (also experts) both in environmental and economic terms that are used to assess a product sustainable. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a useful tool in environmental design alternative solutions, searching to reduce potential impacts and orient to the pursuit of sustainable development, followed by the economic assessment through the method of Life Cycle Costing (LCC). Results of the analysis help in identifying which are the most named environmental and economic impacts of a household refrigerator during its process. Moreover, this analysis of the State Of The Art (SOTA) it will be a reference dataset to assess the environmental and economic impacts for future sustainable refrigerator.

Book excerpt: This book summarizes the latest research on advanced intelligent systems in the fields of energy and electrical engineering, presented at the second edition of the International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Systems for Sustainable Development (AI2SD’2019), held in Marrakech from 8 to 11 July 2019, Morocco. This book is intended for researchers, professionals and anyone interested in the development of advanced intelligent systems in the electrical engineering sector. The solutions featured focus on three main areas: motion control in complex electromechanical systems, including sensorless control; fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control of electric drives; and new control algorithms for power electronics converters. In addition, the book includes a range of research using new technologies and advanced approaches. Offering a platform for researchers in the field of energy to share their work related to the problem of management and optimization of energy, which is a major current concern, the book mainly focuses on areas that go hand in hand with the Industrial Revolution 4.0, such as solar energy computing systems, smart grids, hydroelectric power computing systems, thermal and recycling computing systems, eco-design intelligent computing systems, renewable energy for IT equipment, modeling green technology, and renewable energy systems in smart cities. The authors of each chapter report the state of the art in the topics addressed and the results of their own research, laboratory experiments, and successful applications in order to share the concept of advanced intelligent systems and appropriate tools and techniques for modeling, storage management, as well as decision support in the field of electrical engineering. Further, the book discusses a number of future trends and the potential for linking control theory, power electronics, artificial neural networks, embedded controllers and signal processing.
