Download or read book Trellises and Trellis-Based Decoding Algorithms for Linear Block Codes written by Shu Lin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the demand for data reliability increases, coding for error control becomes increasingly important in data transmission systems and has become an integral part of almost all data communication system designs. In recent years, various trellis-based soft-decoding algorithms for linear block codes have been devised. New ideas developed in the study of trellis structure of block codes can be used for improving decoding and analyzing the trellis complexity of convolutional codes. These recent developments provide practicing communication engineers with more choices when designing error control systems. Trellises and Trellis-based Decoding Algorithms for Linear Block Codes combines trellises and trellis-based decoding algorithms for linear codes together in a simple and unified form. The approach is to explain the material in an easily understood manner with minimal mathematical rigor. Trellises and Trellis-based Decoding Algorithms for Linear Block Codes is intended for practicing communication engineers who want to have a fast grasp and understanding of the subject. Only material considered essential and useful for practical applications is included. This book can also be used as a text for advanced courses on the subject.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the full proceedings of the Fourth Advanced Study Institute organised by myself and my colleagues in . * the field of Communication Theory and Allied Subjects. In the first Institute we associated the subject of signal processing in communication with that in control engineering. Then we concentrated on noise and random phenomena by bringing in as well the subject of stochastic calculus. The third time our subject was multi-user communication and associated with it, the important problem of assessing algorithmic complexity. This time we are concerned with the vast increase of computational power that is now available in communication systems processors and controllers. This forces a mathematical, algorithmic and structural approach to the solution of computational requirements and design problems, in contrast to previous heuristic and intuitive methods. We are also concerned with the interactions and trade-offs between the structure, speed, and complexity of a process, and between software and hardware implementations. At the previous Advanced Study Institute in this series, on Multi-User Communications, there was a session on computational complexity, applied particularly to network routing problems. It was the aim of this Institute to expand this topic and to link it with information theory, random processes, pattern analysis, and implementation aspects of communication processors. The first part of these proceedings concentrates on pattern and structure in communications processing. In organising this session I was greatly helped and guided by Professor P. G. Farrell and Professor J. L. Massey.

Book Synopsis Error-Correction Coding and Decoding by : Martin Tomlinson
Download or read book Error-Correction Coding and Decoding written by Martin Tomlinson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-21 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses both the theory and practical applications of self-correcting data, commonly known as error-correcting codes. The applications included demonstrate the importance of these codes in a wide range of everyday technologies, from smartphones to secure communications and transactions. Written in a readily understandable style, the book presents the authors’ twenty-five years of research organized into five parts: Part I is concerned with the theoretical performance attainable by using error correcting codes to achieve communications efficiency in digital communications systems. Part II explores the construction of error-correcting codes and explains the different families of codes and how they are designed. Techniques are described for producing the very best codes. Part III addresses the analysis of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, primarily to calculate their stopping sets and low-weight codeword spectrum which determines the performance of th ese codes. Part IV deals with decoders designed to realize optimum performance. Part V describes applications which include combined error correction and detection, public key cryptography using Goppa codes, correcting errors in passwords and watermarking. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in error-correcting codes and their applications, ranging from non-experts to professionals at the forefront of research in their field. Book Synopsis Turbo Coding, Turbo Equalisation and Space-Time Coding by : Lajos Hanzo
Download or read book Turbo Coding, Turbo Equalisation and Space-Time Coding written by Lajos Hanzo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-05-03 with total page 839 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering the full range of channel codes from the most conventional through to the most advanced, the second edition of Turbo Coding, Turbo Equalisation and Space-Time Coding is a self-contained reference on channel coding for wireless channels. The book commences with a historical perspective on the topic, which leads to two basic component codes, convolutional and block codes. It then moves on to turbo codes which exploit iterative decoding by using algorithms, such as the Maximum-A-Posteriori (MAP), Log-MAP and Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm (SOVA), comparing their performance. It also compares Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM), Turbo Trellis Coded Modulation (TTCM), Bit-Interleaved Coded Modulation (BICM) and Iterative BICM (BICM-ID) under various channel conditions. The horizon of the content is then extended to incorporate topics which have found their way into diverse standard systems. These include space-time block and trellis codes, as well as other Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) schemes and near-instantaneously Adaptive Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (AQAM). The book also elaborates on turbo equalisation by providing a detailed portrayal of recent advances in partial response modulation schemes using diverse channel codes. A radically new aspect for this second edition is the discussion of multi-level coding and sphere-packing schemes, Extrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) charts, as well as an introduction to the family of Generalized Low Density Parity Check codes. This new edition includes recent advances in near-capacity turbo-transceivers as well as new sections on multi-level coding schemes and of Generalized Low Density Parity Check codes Comparatively studies diverse channel coded and turbo detected systems to give all-inclusive information for researchers, engineers and students Details EXIT-chart based irregular transceiver designs Uses rich performance comparisons as well as diverse near-capacity design examples

Book Synopsis Information Theory and Coding - Solved Problems by : Predrag Ivaniš
Download or read book Information Theory and Coding - Solved Problems written by Predrag Ivaniš and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-29 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is offers a comprehensive overview of information theory and error control coding, using a different approach then in existed literature. The chapters are organized according to the Shannon system model, where one block affects the others. A relatively brief theoretical introduction is provided at the beginning of every chapter, including a few additional examples and explanations, but without any proofs. And a short overview of some aspects of abstract algebra is given at the end of the corresponding chapters. The characteristic complex examples with a lot of illustrations and tables are chosen to provide detailed insights into the nature of the problem. Some limiting cases are presented to illustrate the connections with the theoretical bounds. The numerical values are carefully selected to provide in-depth explanations of the described algorithms. Although the examples in the different chapters can be considered separately, they are mutually connected and the conclusions for one considered problem relate to the others in the book.
