Book excerpt: An uncensored Hollywood tell-all filled with explicit tales of love, sex, and revenge from the video vixen made famous by Warrant’s rock anthem “Cherry Pie.” Who could forget the sexy “Cherry Pie” girl from hair metal band Warrant’s infamous music video? Bobbie Brown became a bona fide vixen for her playful role as the object of lead singer Jani Lane’s desires. But the wide-eyed Louisiana beauty queen’s own dreams of making it big in Los Angeles were about to be derailed by her rock-and-roll lifestyle. After her tumultuous marriage to Jani imploded, and her engagement to fast-living Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee ended in a drug haze—followed by his marriage later to Pamela Anderson—Bobbie decided it was time Hollywood’s hottest bachelors got a taste of their own medicine. Step one: get high. Step two: get even. In a captivating, completely uncensored confessional, Bobbie explicitly recounts a life among some of the most famous men in Hollywood: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Costner, Mark McGrath, Dave Navarro, Sebastian Bach, Ashley Hamilton, Rob Pilatus of Milli Vanilli, Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, Orgy’s Jay Gordon, and many more. No man was off limits as the fun-loving bombshell spiraled into excess, anger, and addiction. Bobbie survived the party—barely—and her riveting, cautionary comeback tale is filled with the wildest stories of sex, drugs, and rock and roll ever told.

Book excerpt: "Red Dirt Memories is a tribute to a way of life that has almost disappeared as quickly as it began, taking you beyond pastures dotted with herds of cattle, past the hatchery, the feed mill, and then to the foot of Swift Hill, where a red dirt road winds down then up again for two miles. Then as now, a car raises a cloud of red dust to signal a visitor, where only a clearing is left of the pine shack it once held, with the smokehouse and the outhouse beyond long decayed and torn down. Wild honeysuckle has taken over the chimney remnants, and all the ghosts simply wait for the right moment to conjure their old memories in this timeless collection that reminds us of our similarities, rather than the differences that divide us."--Distributor's website

He had never been out of Georgia when, suddenly, he found himself stranded in a small Texas town with nothing but the clothes on his back. He didn't know which was more devastating: his lost and penniless situation or being abandoned by someone he loved and who, he thought, loved him. At sixteen, alone in a strange new world, he faces one unthinkable situation after another. But he was going home to Alma by whatever means necessary and plant his feet so deeply in that red Georgia clay that he would never move again!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kay Sanders first connected with Wisconsin sitting at her fourth-grade desk in the deep south, reading Little House in the Big Woods, never dreaming that Wisconsin would one day become her home. She grew up hearing her mother and her maternal aunts recite poetry, sing songs, argue, tell stories, and quote scripture, sealing her destiny as a poet. In her review of Sanders' chapbook That Red Dirt Road, published by Parallel Press, Lou Roach of Verse Wisconsin says "Kay Sanders understand the deep current of family that flows through the lives of those fortunate enough to have grown up in the midst of parental love, also knowing the warm affection of extended family members. Her chapbook...is more than a memoir. It is homage to the strength of connections and the sense of mutual support that flourishes wherever kinship is valued and nourished." After earning her bachelor’s degree in history from Auburn University and completing graduate work there, Sanders married her German professor, moved to Wisconsin, and raised a family of five children. She worked a variety of jobs including time spent as a substitute teacher, church secretary, and proofreader and typist of graduate theses, before retiring in 2007 as Lay Ministry Coordinator for her church. Her work has been published in Wisconsin Poets’ Calendar, Fox Cry, Free Verse, and Wisconsin People and Ideas. She is the recipient of three Wisconsin Regional Writers’ Association jade rings for essay and poetry won various awards with the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets; and has won awards in the poetry contests of Wisconsin People and Ideas. She is currently working on a second poetry manuscript entitled Traveling Light and resides in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1969 Roberta Price received a grant and traveled west to explore and photograph the communes that had begun to spring up in New Mexico and Colorado. Over the next eight years she took more than 3,000 photos of commune life, and now she has selected 121 images for publication in a visual memoir that reflects on her experiences and invites us to contemplate the rural counterculture of her youth. Unlike most photographers of the back to the land movement, Price "went native," joining a Colorado community and living there for seven years. Her photo documentation of her years at Libre provides a unique view of commune life through the eyes of a participant. We see residents building homes, raising families, and celebrating community. Price's photographs of Drop City, New Buffalo, Reality Construction Company, Libre, the Red Rockers, and other southwestern communes capture long-haired men, women in self-made peasant attire, psychedelic art, sheaves of marijuana, cast-iron stoves, and preindustrial agricultural practices—visual evidence of the great divide that separated Price, her friends, and associates from the families and neighbors among whom they had grown up. The photos also reveal the presence of record players, amplifiers, and electric guitars, along with a staggering array of architectural and interior design, and visits by such iconoclasts as Ken Kesey, Peter Orlovsky, and Allen Ginsberg. The most famous cliché about the era is that if you can remember it, you weren’t there. Price was there with her camera, and her images help us see it more clearly now.
