What environmental concerns could arise from the use of waste plastics in road applications? Plastic Waste for Sustainable Asphalt Roads covers the various processes and techniques for the utilization of waste plastics in asphalt mixes. The book discusses the various material properties and methodologies, effects of various methodologies, and combination of various polymers. It also provides information on the compatibility between bitumen and plastics, final asphalt performance, and environmental challenges. Discusses the processes and techniques for utilization of waste plastics in asphalt mixes. Features a life-cycle assessment of waste plastics in road surfaces and possible Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). Includes examples of on-field usage through various case studies.

Download or read book Cold-recycled Bituminous Concrete Using Bituminous Materials written by Jon A. Epps and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1990 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to pavement designers, construction engineers, and others interested in economical methods for reconstructing or rehabilitating bituminous pavements. Information is provided on the processes and procedures used by a number of states to recycle asphalt pavements in place without application of heat. Since 1975 a growing number of state highway agencies have reconstructed or rehabilitated asphalt pavements by recycling the old pavement in place. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the processes used for cold in-place recycling, including construction procedures, mix designs, mixture properties, performance, and specifications.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Recycled Concrete and Demolition Waste by : Fernando Pacheco-Torgal
Download or read book Handbook of Recycled Concrete and Demolition Waste written by Fernando Pacheco-Torgal and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-30 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The civil engineering sector accounts for a significant percentage of global material and energy consumption and is a major contributor of waste material. The ability to recycle and reuse concrete and demolition waste is critical to reducing environmental impacts in meeting national, regional and global environmental targets. Handbook of recycled concrete and demolition waste summarises key recent research in achieving these goals. Part one considers techniques for managing construction and demolition waste, including waste management plans, ways of estimating levels of waste, the types and optimal location of waste recycling plants and the economics of managing construction and demolition waste. Part two reviews key steps in handling construction and demolition waste. It begins with a comparison between conventional demolition and construction techniques before going on to discuss the preparation, refinement and quality control of concrete aggregates produced from waste. It concludes by assessing the mechanical properties, strength and durability of concrete made using recycled aggregates. Part three includes examples of the use of recycled aggregates in applications such as roads, pavements, high-performance concrete and alkali-activated or geopolymer cements. Finally, the book discusses environmental and safety issues such as the removal of gypsum, asbestos and alkali-silica reaction (ASR) concrete, as well as life-cycle analysis of concrete with recycled aggregates. Handbook of recycled concrete and demolition waste is a standard reference for all those involved in the civil engineering sector, as well as academic researchers in the field. Summarises key recent research in recycling and reusing concrete and demolition waste to reduce environmental impacts and meet national, regional and global environmental targets Considers techniques for managing construction and demolition waste, including waste management plans, ways of estimating levels of waste, the types and optimal location of waste recycling plants Reviews key steps in handling construction and demolition waste

This book was released on 1979 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A primary problem associated with recycling is the pollution created by the combustion of asphaltic material during heating in a conventional drum dryer. Also of importance is the aging characteristics of recycled materials and their performance. This report covers the testing and design methods, construction procedures, resulting air pollution, economy of operation, and performance of a pavement recycled and utilized as a surface course in southeastern Wyoming.

Book Synopsis Construction Report by : Richard P. Henely
Download or read book Construction Report written by Richard P. Henely and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After some success in the process of recycling asphalt pavements in 1975, Kossuth County decided to implement further recycling projects on a larger scale in its 1976 road construction program. The work done in 1975 indicated that a quality product could be produced, but that an air pollution problem created during the heating and mixing operation must be brought under reasonable control. As part of its 1976 road program, Kossuth County planned to salvage a total of 16 miles of old asphalt pavements in three projects. Two of these projects were three miles in length and the third project was ten miles long. The ten mile project was selected by the Federal Highway Authority as one of the recycling projects to be completed in cooperation with Demonstration Project No. 39, Recycling Asphalt Pavements.
