Kapitel 3 widmet sich dem Rechtsextremismus im Internet, wobei insbesondere auf die Rolle von Web 2.0 und Social Media eingegangen wird. Hierbei werden Strategien und Instrumente rechtsextremer Propaganda auf diesen Plattformen analysiert. Kapitel 4 setzt den Fokus auf die Internetnutzung Jugendlicher und diskutiert den Jugendmedienschutz sowie die Gefahren, denen Jugendliche auf Social-Media-Plattformen ausgesetzt sind. Das Fazit in Kapitel 5 zieht Schlussfolgerungen aus der Analyse und gibt einen Ausblick auf mögliche Maßnahmen im Umgang mit rechtsextremer Propaganda im Internet. Insgesamt bietet diese Arbeit eine umfassende Betrachtung der Schnittstelle zwischen rechtsextremer Ideologie und deren Verbreitung in digitalen Medien, insbesondere unter Berücksichtigung der Jugendlichen als Zielgruppe.

All the more reason to consider carefully whether it is necessary. This can hardly be the case if previous research in the selected field has already been the subject of an earlier review-or even several competing surveys. On the other hand, more thorough study is necessary if the intensity and scope of research are increasing without comprehensive assessments. That was the situation in Western societies when work began on this project in the summer of 1998. It was then, too, that the challenges emerged: any manual, espe cially an international one, is a very special type of text, which is anything but routine. It calls for a special effort: the "state of the art" has to be documented for selected subject areas, and its presentation made as compelling as possible. The editors were delighted, therefore, by the cooperation and commitment shown by the eighty-one contributors from ten countries who were recruited to write on the sixty-two different topics, by the con structive way in which any requests for changes were dealt with, and by the patient re sponse to our many queries. This volume is the result of a long process. It began with the first drafts outlining the structure of the work, which were submitted to various distinguished colleagues. Friedheim Neidhardt of Berlin, Gertrud Nunner-Winkler of Munich, and Roland Eckert of Trier, to name only a few, supplied valuable comments at this stage.

As cyber technology continues to evolve, we must consider how best we can support our children and young people in enjoying the benefits that come with the online world, whilst also protecting them from harm. This book provides a timely review and analyses of the international literature on cyberbullying. Beginning with an overview of the evolution of international research to date, the chapters deal with some of the fundamental issues facing researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. The authors deal with issues such as how best to define cyberbullying, what we currently know about the prevalence of the behaviour, the role of gender in cyberbullying, and alternative theoretical perspectives. Cross-national research is reviewed with the objective of highlighting the similarities across different nations whilst also emphasising the uniqueness and importance of cultural context when attempting to intervene effectively. Due to the research-evident potential for harm as a consequence of cyberbullying, it is important that we move towards appropriate coping and intervention strategies. Therefore, this book also focuses on effective coping strategies at an individual level and at a societal level, examining issues such as education and legislation in relation to cyberbullying. Furthermore, the contemporary knowledge regarding prevention and intervention is explored, with a number perspectives provided. Other papers share a common theme: the critical interpretation of archaeological evidence. A more careful consideration of non-grave good pottery sherds from graves suggests that these often disregarded items potentially shed light on funerary rites which are usually considered to be invisible; the potential importance of plant remains, particularly of exotic and rare species, in ritual deposits is examined and a new perspective on the negative aspects of Roman conquest of Northern Gaul presented. New approaches towards our understanding of space and landscape in the Roman world comprise an examination of the suburbs of ancient Rome and preliminary results of an ongoing project exploring the relationship between wetland landscapes and domestic settlements, presenting a case study from Spain.

The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Several authors take a political ecology approach to their topic, but the emphasis here is less on hydro-politics than on the cultural meaning of rivers to the communities we describe. How has the cultural significance of rivers shifted as a result of colonisation, development and nation-building? How do people whose identities are fundamentally rooted in their relationship to a particular river renegotiate that relationship when the river is dammed to generate hydro-power or polluted by mining activities? Book excerpt: As the physical territory held by the group known as the Islamic State diminished in 2016-2017, concern about of the status of the group's "virtual" caliphate increased. This report focuses on one aspect of that virtual caliphate: the production of visual propaganda by the group's official media bureaus. Using a dataset of more than 13,000 pieces of official visual propaganda distributed from January 2015 to June 2018, this report examines how the production of such pieces has changed over this timeframe in terms of the number of pieces distributed, the geographic dynamics associated with the production of propaganda, and the content featured in these products. Through the course of this examination, several key findings emerge: Official visual propaganda production has decreased significantly: According to the CTC's collection criteria, August 2015 represented the high-water mark for the production of official visual propaganda, -with 754 releases. The low-point occurred in June 2018, -with 44 releases. This represents a 94-percent decrease in visual propaganda production. It is important to note that this decrease does not account for non-visual production such as text-only tweets. Despite the decrease, fluctuation in visual propaganda production is likely to continue: At the macro level, production rebounded slightly in January 2018 before falling off again. This follows a more sustained rebound in production that occurred in late 2016.
