Download or read book Legends of Vietnam written by Nghia M. Vo and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Legends are a mirror of the culture that creates them, a revealing lens through which to observe society, religion, history, and traditions. This volume explores Vietnamese legends from 1321 to today--tales of gods, spirits, ghosts, giants, extraordinary individuals, heroes, common people, and animals. It explains the mores, thought processes, and religions that formed the genesis of Vietnamese legends, traces the development of legends through time and space, and highlights the historical and social differences between northern and southern legends. Over time, this work shows, Vietnamese legends have evolved from a 14th century means of government propaganda to become a form of news, entertainment, and thought for the masses.

Book Synopsis A cybertaxonomic revision of the micro-landsnail genus Plectostoma Adam (Mollusca, Caenogastropoda, Diplommatinidae), from Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Indochina by : Thor-Seng Liew
Download or read book A cybertaxonomic revision of the micro-landsnail genus Plectostoma Adam (Mollusca, Caenogastropoda, Diplommatinidae), from Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Indochina written by Thor-Seng Liew and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2014-03-25 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tropical micro-landsnail of the genus Plectostoma exhibits a greater diversity in shell forms, largely due to the last whorl, which, in some species is coiled irregularly. The genus counts 79 species and occurs in Vietnam, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo. Plectostoma can only be found in limestone outcrops, where the rock face is its major habitat. This work revises non-Borneo Plectostoma species, which are more diverse in their shell form than Bornean Plectostoma. As a result, 10 new Plectostoma species are described together with the existing 21 species, based on the redefined shell characters and genetic data. In addition, all the data of 31 species, namely, 62 references, 214 collections, 290 pictures, and 155 3D models, were simultaneously tagged and linked to each other. All the synthesised, semantic-tagged, and linked taxonomic information is made freely and publicly available online.
Download or read book The Mollusks written by Charles F. Sturm and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mollusks have been important to humans since our earliest days. Initially, when humans were primarily interested in what they could eat or use, mollusks were important as food, ornaments, and materials for tools. Over the centuries, as human knowledge branched out and individuals started to study the world around them, mollusks were important subjects for learning how things worked. In this volume, the editors and contributors have brought together a broad range of topics within the field of malacology. It is our expectation that these topics will be of interest and use to amateur and professional malacologists.

Book Synopsis Human Adaptation in the Asian Palaeolithic by : Ryan J. Rabett
Download or read book Human Adaptation in the Asian Palaeolithic written by Ryan J. Rabett and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-08-27 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the first human colonization of Asia and particularly the tropical environments of Southeast Asia during the Upper Pleistocene. In studying the unique character of the Asian archaeological record, it reassesses long-accepted propositions about the development of human 'modernity.' Ryan J. Rabett reveals an evolutionary relationship between colonization, the challenges encountered during this process - especially in relation to climatic and environmental change - and the forms of behaviour that emerged. This book argues that human modernity is not something achieved in the remote past in one part of the world, but rather is a diverse, flexible, responsive, and ongoing process of adaptation.
