Book Synopsis Aeroelastic Vibrations and Stability of Plates and Shells by : Sergey D. Algazin
Download or read book Aeroelastic Vibrations and Stability of Plates and Shells written by Sergey D. Algazin and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-12-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Back-action of aerodynamics onto structures such as wings cause vibrations and may resonantly couple to them, thus causing instabilities (flutter) and endangering the whole structure. By careful choices of geometry, materials and damping mechanisms, hazardous effects on wind engines, planes, turbines and cars can be avoided. Besides an introduction into the problem of flutter, new formulations of flutter problems are given as well as a treatise of supersonic flutter and of a whole range of mechanical effects. Numerical and analytical methods to study them are developed and applied to the analysis of new classes of flutter problems for plates and shallow shells of arbitrary plane form. Specific problems discussed in the book in the context of numerical simulations are supplemented by Fortran code examples (available on the website).

Book Synopsis Fluid-Structure Interactions, Volume 2 by : Michael P. Paidoussis
Download or read book Fluid-Structure Interactions, Volume 2 written by Michael P. Paidoussis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-12-15 with total page 1033 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text is richly illustrated, lightly written and more wide-ranging than Volume 1. A comprehensive treatment of fluid-structure interactions involving axial flow and slender structures, such as piping, human veins, aircraft, nuclear reactor fuel and submarine skins. The emphasis is on fundamentals, particularly on the physical understanding and underlying mechanisms, as well as on applications. This book will be invaluable for researchers, professional engineers, applied scientists and students involved in the design, study or operation or systems involving fluid flow, internal or external structures, wind or ocean currents - Emphasizes real-world analysis of problems encountered in the field and presents their solutions - A practical and thorough literature review of over 1400 references, an excellent reference document - Bridges the gap between academic researchers and practitioners in industry
Book Synopsis Fluid-Structure Interactions by : Michael P. Paidoussis
Download or read book Fluid-Structure Interactions written by Michael P. Paidoussis and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-12-07 with total page 885 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first of two books concentrating on the dynamics of slender bodies within or containing axial flow, Fluid-Structure Interaction, Volume 1 covers the fundamentals and mechanisms giving rise to flow-induced vibration, with a particular focus on the challenges associated with pipes conveying fluid. This volume has been thoroughly updated to reference the latest developments in the field, with a continued emphasis on the understanding of dynamical behaviour and analytical methods needed to provide long-term solutions and validate the latest computational methods and codes. In this edition, Chapter 7 from Volume 2 has also been moved to Volume 1, meaning that Volume 1 now mainly treats the dynamics of systems subjected to internal flow, whereas in Volume 2 the axial flow is in most cases external to the flow or annular. - Provides an in-depth review of an extensive range of fluid-structure interaction topics, with detailed real-world examples and thorough referencing throughout for additional detail - Organized by structure and problem type, allowing you to dip into the sections that are relevant to the particular problem you are facing, with numerous appendices containing the equations relevant to specific problems - Supports development of long-term solutions by focusing on the fundamentals and mechanisms needed to understand underlying causes and operating conditions under which apparent solutions might not prove effective

Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamics of Shells and Plates written by M. P. Paidoussis and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 15 papers reflect a reviving interest in the nonlinear dynamics of shells and panels, and to some degree of plate dynamics, funding for which dried up in the 1970s leaving some major questions still unresolved. The studies here take advantage of new numerical tools that make some things possible
Book Synopsis Thin-shell Structures; Theory, Experiment and Design by : California Institute of Technology
Download or read book Thin-shell Structures; Theory, Experiment and Design written by California Institute of Technology and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 1974 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes the status of the theoretical and experimental understanding of the mechanics of thin-walled shell structures as known in the 1970's. The distinctive feature of this book is in its emphasis on experimental evaluation of the theories, and on practical concerns for shell design. The book is the edited proceedings of the Symposium on Thin Shell Structures: Theory, Experiment and Design which was held in Pasadena, California from June 29 to 30, 1972. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together the world's leading researchers and practitioners of computational mechanics, these new volumes meet and build on the eight key challenges for research and development in computational mechanics.Researchers have recently identified eight critical research tasks facing the field of computational mechanics. These tasks have come about because it appears possible to reach a new level of mathematical modelling and numerical solution that will lead to a much deeper understanding of nature and to great improvements in engineering design. The eight tasks are: - The automatic solution of mathematical models - Effective numerical schemes for fluid flows - The development of an effective mesh-free numerical solution method - The development of numerical procedures for multiphysics problems - The development of numerical procedures for multiscale problems - The modelling of uncertainties - The analysis of complete life cycles of systems - Education - teaching sound engineering and scientific judgement Readers of Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics 2003 will be able to apply the combined experience of many of the world's leading researchers to their own research needs. Those in academic environments will gain a better insight into the needs and constraints of the industries they are involved with; those in industry will gain a competitive advantage by gaining insight into the cutting edge research being carried out by colleagues in academia. Features - Bridges the gap between academic researchers and practitioners in industry - Outlines the eight main challenges facing Research and Design in Computational mechanics and offers new insights into the shifting the research agenda - Provides a vision of how strong, basic and exciting education at university can be harmonized with life-long learning to obtain maximum value from the new powerful tools of analysis
