Featuring two new chapters, a revealing and entertaining foreword by best-selling author Robert Fulghum, and a new preface by UU moderator Denise Davidoff, this updated edition of the classic introductory text on Unitarian Universalism explores the many sources of the living tradition of this ‘chosen faith’.

Book excerpt: The Gadfly Papers is a collection of three essays written by Rev. Dr. Todd F. Eklof about the negative impacts the emerging culture of Political Correctness, Safetyism, and Identitarianism is having on America's most liberal religion. It's written specifically for Unitarian Universalists who care about the future of their faith, but will prove of interest to anyone seeking to understand how today's identity politics can fundamentally alter any institution, and presents a seminal case-study for researchers of this timely subject. The Gadfly Papers is a substantive, well argued work that's based on plenty of credible scholarship, yet is written in a conversational tone that makes its complex subject matter easy to understand. Whether you're a Unitarian Universalist, a student of history, social science, politics, or simply value the rare but refreshing application of logic, The Gadfly Papers is a book you won't put down until it's finished.

Book excerpt: These 23 essays by some of the most prominent leaders in Unitarian Universalist Paganism bring Pagan and Earth-centered theo/alogy to life for a new generation. Featuring the writings of both clergy and laypeople, this vibrant collection demonstrates the many expressions of nature-based spirituality and the ways they feed the souls of so many. The essayists describe a broad array of practices, including Wiccan traditions, Neo-Pagan rituals and celebrations, worship of the divine feminine, and nature-based beliefs and practices that bring us into harmony and balance with our natural environment. Contributors also describe the development of nature-based theo/alogy within Unitarian Universalism—including the organization of the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans, the addition of the sixth Source to the UUA bylaws recognizing Earth-centered spirituality, and the integration of Pagan practices into congregational life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Reasons Why I Am an Unitarian: In a Series of Letters to a Friend Unitarian ministers throughout the land, and especially in our large city populations. If these opportunities are wiselypro fited by, a large reward may be expected from the hand of the heavenlv Father. The needful wisdom involves, it is sub mitted, two things - first, a going-forth to the people; and second, an offer of the Gospel, and nothing but the Gospel, both positively and distinctively. There must be'a going-foi'th. Pulpit ministrations no longer suffice. The Chiistian minister must become a missionary. Like his professed Master, he must go about doing good. In going forth into social life, he may act in various ways for the improvement of his fellow men but he must not fail to preach to them the unsearch able riches of Christ. In order that those riches may be clearly seen, intelligently apprehended, and duly valued, they must be set forth distinctively. But this positive and distino tive teaching can have little effect, unless it proceed from a heart deeply sensible of its value, and be emphatically directed so as to promote the great aim of the Gospel in the renewal as well as enrichment of the life. No propagandism can be truly Christian, or perform a Christian work, which springs not from the life of God in the soul of man, and aims not to form individuals anew after the image of the Saviour. Nothing short of this deserves the name of Christian endea vour; nothing short of this can be expected to secure the cooperation of God's Spirifiand to receive the Divine blessing.
