But when a special assignment sends Madison to negotiate a peace treaty with the neighboring kingdom of Naremia, her beliefs and loyalties are put to the test. She's forced into "The Selection," a contest to become the bride of Naremia's enigmatic crown prince, Oscar. Reluctantly accepting the marriage proposal to prevent war, Madison's journey takes an unexpected turn. As she delves deeper into the secrets of Naremia's royal family, she discovers hidden truths about Oscar, his father, and the enigmatic queen, Thérése. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was inspired to write this book after watching my young granddaughter Imogen playing in my garden one summer. From an early age, Imogen began to show signs of having an extraordinary imagination. When in trouble with her grandma over small transgressions, she would quickly say that it was the naughty little elves in granddad’s garden that made her do these naughty things. Hearing this, I decided to place a few small elves, fairies, gnomes, and pixies in parts of my garden. I have to say that this idea really took off. Imogen began to invent really outlandish stories of the fun she was having in the garden with the naughty little elves. So much so that I began to add other little characters into the garden. As I began to write this book, I suddenly became as much of a child as my granddaughter. I began to create, in my head anyway, lots of different characters and the different things that they would get up to. Every time I would sit in front of my PC to write another story, I suddenly became a child once again. I found myself almost believing in the adventures that I was writing about. Not only was I beginning to believe in the adventures but I found myself being dragged into the stories. It was as if I was really there in Angle-Wing Forest with my granddaughter Imogen. When I had completed this collection of adventures in Fairy Land, I gave them to my granddaughter to read, and she loved them. So remember, people, if you can set aside all your adult thoughts and your adult ways for one day, then you just might enjoy the adventures in Angel-Wing Forest with your own beautiful children.

Book excerpt: Arthur turned and strode toward us. He was magnificent, and I will never forget that, in that moment, I first loved him. And I believe--had I known what the future held for us: all the trouble, torment, battle, and grief of our lives--I still believe that I would have yielded my heart into his keeping as I did then . . . In a sweeping epic of the imagination, Alice Borchardt enters the wondrous realm of Arthurian legend and makes it her own. The Dragon Queen is the first volume in a trilogy of novels that boldly re-imagines Camelot--and casts Guinevere as a shrewd, strong-willed, magical warrior queen. Born into a world of terrible strife, where war is constant and weapons are never far from the hands of men or women, Guinevere, daughter of a mighty pagan queen, is a threat to her people and a prize to the dreaded sorcerer Merlin. Sent into hiding, she grows up under the protection of a shapeshifting man-wolf and an ornery Druid. But even on the remote coast of Scotland, where dragons feed and watch over her, she is not safe from the all-seeing High Druid Merlin. He knows the young beauty's destiny, and he will stop at nothing to prevent what has been foretold. For if Guinevere becomes Queen and Arthur, King, they will bring a peace to the land that will leave the power-hungry Merlin a shriveled magician in a weary cloak. Yet Guinevere possesses power of her own--dazzling power to rival even that of Merlin. Summoned from her home by forces she cannot fathom, she travels from the Underworld to an Otherworld of the Past, at each step calling on ancient powers to aid her way. When young Guinevere proves her mettle to an embarrassed Merlin, even her faithful dragon protectors cannot prevent the evil that the sorcerer rains down. Seeking revenge, Merlin banishes Arthur to a world from which the only escape is death. Now Guinevere must face Merlin's wrath without him--and prove that she is worthy of being Arthur's Queen. From the glass-roofed Great Hall at Tintigal to the lush garden forts of Wales, Alice Borchardt details the travels of Guinevere in a rich fabric of prose. The Dragon Queen is a novel of great emotional depth, timeless romance, and soul-stirring adventure.

Little Red Riding Hood, Baba Yaga, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Snow Queen: these and more than fifteen other stories designed by Bernheimer Architecture, Snøhetta, Rural Studio, LEVENBETTS, and LTL Architects and many other international vanguards have created stunning works for this groundbreaking collection of architectural fairy tales. Story by story, Andrew Bernheimer and Kate Bernheimer--a brother and sister team as in an old fairy tale--have built the ultimate home for lovers of fiction and design. Snow girls and spinning houses. Paper capes and engineered hair braids. Resin bee hives and infinite libraries. Here are futuristic structures made from traditional stories, inspired by everything from Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen and The Little Match Girl to the Brothers Grimm's Rapunzel and The Juniper Tree to fairy tales by Jorge Luis Borges and Joy Williams and from China, Japan, Russia, Nigeria, and Mexico. A desire for story and shelter counts as among our most ancient instincts, and this dual desire continues to inspire our most imaginative architects and authors today. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A richly entertaining and informative collection of Hans Christian Andersen's stories, annotated by one of America's leading folklore scholars. In her most ambitious annotated work to date, Maria Tatar celebrates the stories told by Denmark's "perfect wizard" and re-envisions Hans Christian Andersen as a writer who casts his spell on both children and adults. Andersen's most beloved tales, such as "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Ugly Duckling," and "The Little Mermaid," are now joined by "The Shadow" and "Story of a Mother," mature stories that reveal his literary range and depth. Tatar captures the tales' unrivaled dramatic and visual power, showing exactly how Andersen became one of the world's ten most translated authors, along with Shakespeare, Dickens, and Marx. Lushly illustrated with more than one hundred fifty rare images, many in full color, by artists such as Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac, The Annotated Hans Christian Andersen will captivate readers with annotations that explore the rich social and cultural dimensions of the nineteenth century and construct a compelling portrait of a writer whose stories still fascinate us today.
