Book excerpt: "This master's project was developed in response to the limited literature and research regarding children less than three years of age, who might be at risk for developing Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). Specifically, this project is directed towards infants and toddlers who have been emergency placed in foster care, who are likely to experience further disruption of relationships due to multiple foster placements. Research suggests that the larger number of placements the foster toddler experiences correlates to global developmental delays, including the diminishing availability of the foster child to develop newly formed attachments. The original case study presents an integrated approach to play therapy that potentially supports the child and foster parents. The case study was a composite study based on foster families who have participated in an early intervention program and early childhood mental health programs and a thorough review of relevant research and theory in the field.
