This is a unique guide for medical physicists, RTTs, dosimetrists and physicians, as well as radiation oncologists and their teams. The MR Linac combines two technologies - a magnetic resonance imaging scanner and a linear accelerator - to precisely locate tumors, tailor the shape of radiation beams in real-time, and precisely deliver doses of radiation, even to moving tumors. This highly innovative technology is very new, and the number of newly installed MR-Linac machines will gradually increase worldwide. However, as there is no published book as a guideline, this book will help new MR-Linac users and centers planning to have MR-Linac. Presents the first book on MR Linac Radiotherapy Comprises both clinical and physical aspects of this new technology Written by leading editors and authors in the field

Book Synopsis Renal Cell Carcinoma by : Steven C. Campbell
Download or read book Renal Cell Carcinoma written by Steven C. Campbell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-26 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renal Cell Carcinoma: Clinical Management provides a comprehensive, state-of-the art review of this field, and will serve as a valuable resource for clinicians, surgeons and researchers with an interest in kidney cancer. The volume reviews new data about risk factors for the disease, profiles the new staging system for renal cell carcinoma (RCC), highlights our current understanding of familial syndromes of RCC and their molecular genetics, and provides new perspectives about imaging of renal tumors. For localized disease, a greater appreciation of nephron-sparing approaches and the importance of preservation of renal function is discussed in detail. Advances in surgical techniques are highlighted. For metastatic disease, the molecular biology of kidney cancer is reviewed in a concise and understandable manner, including the data that has fostered novel targeted approaches that have revolutionized management. The several landmark phase III targeted therapy trials published in the last few years are placed in context with respect to current management. Integration of surgery and systemic therapy through cytoreductive and consolidative approaches has yielded provocative data that promises to further advance the field, and major advances in this domain are also be discussed.

Book excerpt: Operating at a high level of fuel efficiency, safety, proliferation-resistance, sustainability and cost, generation IV nuclear reactors promise enhanced features to an energy resource which is already seen as an outstanding source of reliable base load power. The performance and reliability of materials when subjected to the higher neutron doses and extremely corrosive higher temperature environments that will be found in generation IV nuclear reactors are essential areas of study, as key considerations for the successful development of generation IV reactors are suitable structural materials for both in-core and out-of-core applications. Structural Materials for Generation IV Nuclear Reactors explores the current state-of-the art in these areas. Part One reviews the materials, requirements and challenges in generation IV systems. Part Two presents the core materials with chapters on irradiation resistant austenitic steels, ODS/FM steels and refractory metals amongst others. Part Three looks at out-of-core materials. Structural Materials for Generation IV Nuclear Reactors is an essential reference text for professional scientists, engineers and postgraduate researchers involved in the development of generation IV nuclear reactors. Introduces the higher neutron doses and extremely corrosive higher temperature environments that will be found in generation IV nuclear reactors and implications for structural materials Contains chapters on the key core and out-of-core materials, from steels to advanced micro-laminates Written by an expert in that particular area

Book excerpt: Pressure Vessel Technology, Volume 3 reviews the practices and trends in pressure vessel technology. This book discusses the tremendous progress in the various fields of pressure vessel technology, including fabrication techniques, ferrous materials, and life expectancy to assure structural integrity. Organized into 11 chapters, this compilation of papers begins with an overview of the fabrication techniques in pressure vessel technology. This text then examines the requirements of the chemical industry for the prevention of catastrophic failure of pressure components. Other chapters consider the major development of pressure vessels for special purposes, high pressure vessels, materials for making pressure vessels, and pressure vessel codes. This book discusses as well the seismic design in the field of pressure vessels and pipings. The final chapter deals with buckling resistance under seismic motions for thin-walled cylindrical vessels, of which predominant mode of failure is shear buckling and bending under horizontal earthquake loadings. This book is a valuable resource for mechanical engineers, project managers, and scientists.

Book Synopsis Liquid Metal Systems by : H.U. Borgstedt
Download or read book Liquid Metal Systems written by H.U. Borgstedt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquid metal technology has been the subject of an impetuous development in the recent decades, mainly due to the application of liquid met als in nuclear techniques. The technological development has been supported by studies of the basic physical-chemical properties of liquid metals: One major concern is the material behaviour in contact with the liquid metals, corrosion and the possible deterioration of metallic and ceramic materials which are in use as constructional or functional materials in such systems. Since the corrosion is in many cases not only a simple dissolution process, the chemical background of such processes had to be studied. Such studies included the determination of solubilities of metals and non-metals in liquid metals, the measurement of thermodynamic data of dissolved materials and of chemical equilibria. Several formerly unknown chemical compounds are formed in liquid metal~ lnd are only stable in this environment. The research and deve\opment devoted to the fission reactor techniques were more or less completed in several countries, further work is in progress in some countries in which the interest in fast breeder reactors arose recently. Even the worldwide program on fusion reactor technology is related to liquid metals, and severallaboratories are now contributing to this new technology.
