Book excerpt: RAW THΦUGHTS is a compelling and mindful fusion of starkly emotive poetry and black and white film photography. Each successive poem-photo pairing (each 'raw thought') builds on an underlying philosophy that compels us to assess and adjust what and how we think with the aim of improving our lives and by extension, the lives of those around us. National Book Award and Griffin Poetry Prize Nominee. Select poetry from RAW THΦUGHTS was nominated for the Pushcart Prize. “A splendid journey of pain and passion, light, discovery and flight, beautifully told in poetic and photographic imagery.” DAVID WOOD, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of WHAT HAVE WE DONE and BEYOND THE BATTLEFIELD “Casey offers us a new transformative experience in RAW THΦUGHTS. Each amazing photo-poetic construct is not just a set of images and words, but a therapeutic medium that touches the depths and heights of the human experience.” JASON Z. W. POWERS, MD, MAPP, Author of WHEN THE SERVANT BECOMES THE MASTER and POSITIVE DAILY RECOVERY GUIDE “RAW THΦUGHTS takes the reader on an introspective and mindful journey of growth and redemption. Through poignant images and beautiful poetry, John Casey offers his readers a new approach to mindfulness, self-reflection, and spirituality.” JANNELL MACAULAY, PHD, Lt Col USAF (RETIRED), Mindfulness Advocate and Leadership & Performance Specialist “In RAW THΦUGHTS, John Casey gives us a glimpse into the heart and mind, melding both in a search for hope. His poems furnish the words, and the photography of Scott Hussey shows us the magic of the combination. Together, the poem-photo fusion delivers an ethereal duet of meaning worth exploring.” SHERYL NELMS, author of 21 published collections of poetry and four-time Pushcart Prize nominee

Book excerpt: Meridian is John Casey's second Raw Thoughts title. In much the same way as its prequel, Meridian was artfully crafted with compelling and visceral snapshots of the heart, mind, and soul in accordance with an underlying philosophy that suggests positive change is possible if certain steps are taken. Each poem within is symbiotically paired with a photograph (a 'raw thought'). By degrees, the book charts a path from darkness and confusion to a place of enlightenment. If and as they relate to each step along that path, the reader can attempt to analyze, understand, and revise not just their thoughts, but the way that they think. Knowledge gained from the resultant awakening can free the mind to interpret the world more accurately. Meridian addresses analysis and improvement of thought in a manner that is less emotive and more refined than in Raw Thoughts. It offers an approach that is cognitive to an extent that most people will not instinctively endeavor to pursue. This is a distinction that lends itself naturally to a next-level pursuit of clarity and personal growth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an employee, you suspect that your best ideas are valuable and could greatly benefit your organization. Management also recognizes that a company's ability to compete is contingent on how well it leverages its employees' ideas. So, why are individuals at all levels of organizations typically poor advocates for ideas? Intrapreneurship provides an engaging guide for both managers and employees on how to direct the flow of ideas and foster a culture of entrepreneurship within their company's existing structure. Based on Kevin C. Desouza's research and experience consulting with thirty global organizations, Intrapreneurship outlines ways to mobilize all types of ideas – including blockbusters with the potential to create radically new external products and services, and more incremental innovations for improving internal processes. With practical frameworks and real life examples for both employees and managers, Intrapreneurship will help you to identify the value in your own ideas and those of others to ultimately benefit your organization.

Book excerpt: From the author of Wild Things comes a heartwarming and relatable queer rom-com about an isolated young woman whose artistic celebration of her pet chinchilla suddenly launches her into the professional art world, reality TV fame, and first love. Isobel's life is small: just her, her mum, and her pet chinchilla, Abigail, in their council flat on the Kentish coast. After mental health troubles in her teens, Issy, now twenty-eight, has kept things that way on purpose, only deviating from routine when her part-time job at a paint-your-own pottery studio demands it, or when she's inspired to create art of Abigail: knitted Abigails, sculptural Abigails, delicately rendered paintings of Abigail. When the Abigails earn the attention of famous artist and reality TV star Elizabeth Staggs, Issy is awestruck and a little alarmed. These emotions compound when Elizabeth makes Issy an unexpected offer: move to London and work for a year shadowing Elizabeth as she produces her hit arts documentary series. Terrified but determined, Issy agrees, and soon finds herself sharing a flat with a crew of boisterous roommates who welcome her into their queer enclave and attempt to mentor her in the city's wide world of romantic possibilities. Issy can't help but wish that one roommate—gorgeous and cool aspiring actress, Robin—might make her mentorship a bit more hands on...even while, at work, she struggles under the guidance of Elizabeth's harsh and exacting young producer, Aubrey. But when Elizabeth seizes on Issy's idea to structure the upcoming season around a group of outsider artists, Issy finds both her work and love lives growing more complicated by the day, whether she's ready or not. Making It is a nuanced and life affirming look at living with depression and of finding, as we all deserve to, self-acceptance, community, and love.

Let the words echo into the air, vibrations locked in the surroundings for eternity. One chance, one redemption, one way of escape. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Thoughts of Discord continues the story of the author's life from the painful end of The Mushroom Diaries. Behind the backdrop of trying to produce his band's debut album Self Degraded Suicide, Thoughts of Discord follows his fall into the depths of depression and drug addiction. This is the solitary journey into the mouth of the abyss. A study of a person. A study of a soul. Another twisted love story.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I had read somewhere during my childhood that there are only seven wonders in the world. I was probably around eight or nine years old at the time. Since then, I started thinking, Why dont I become the eighth wonder of the world? Literally, yes! Hilarious but it came from the bottom of my heart, so I have to honor it wholeheartedly. I decided, Why dont I plan on becoming someone extraordinary? Someone with a bold point of view about life, a pioneer by free will. No offense to anyone or any circumstance but I had to listen to my gut feeling about what I would become in my life. I had a fascination for so many things during that age that I couldnt decide what I would be. I knew it would be very challenging for me to challenge myself to be someone so authentic (at least thats what I always thought about geniuses). I realized that the best way to find ideas would be to read books, read books here and there, everywhere. Whatever I found, I would just start reading. Sometimes I used to read books so much that I used to get severe headaches, but at the same time, lots of ideas used to spur in my head, so much that I would just be overwhelmed with ideas. I wish I had jotted down all those ideas that came into my mind at the time. I regret! But I always go by the rule that its never too late to inaugurate anything. Thats why I never gave up the idea of becoming an authornot just an author but a writer of something honestly interesting, something out of the box. I wanted to write about my thoughts so accurately that people could literally visualize what they might be missing out when it comes to enduring their thoughts or points of view about life and the overall universe.

Book excerpt: In a successful litigation, it isn’t enough to know the facts. You must also know how to interpret and use those facts, and thoughtfully delving into the stories behind them is a crucial task if you hope to prevail for your client. Fact Investigation, by longtime NITA authors Paul Zwier and Anthony Bocchino, will change the way you approach cases for the rest of your career. Every litigator’s investigation begins where the “official” investigation ends. During informal fact investigation, you must know how to engage your client so he shares the facts and stories critical to his case, then use them not just to develop but to implement a winning case theory. How do you do that? It all starts with your first meeting with your clientand what you say and how you do it. Find out how your word choice and body language lay the groundwork for connecting with your client, and how to establish the openness and trust that yield what you need to build a compelling case and be a persuasive advocate. From that client information, the authors take you through the steps necessary to build and implement effective alternative case theories that will inform your fact investigation process and lay the foundation for efficient use of formal discovery devices. Zwier and Bocchino model these practice skills through four familiar NITA case files: Quinlan v. Kane Electronics (business/contract case), Brown v. Byrd (auto accident and personal injury case), State v. Lawrence (criminal robbery case), and United States ex rel. Rodriguez v. Hughes (False Claims Act case). When you see these techniques modeled as case studies, you understand how to integrate them into your overall case planning and learn how to confront the thorny ethics of day-to-day lawyering. The Second Edition is fully revised, with special emphasis on the impact of the proposed Federal Rules Civil Procedure changes, and features an important new chapter on e-discovery. Rare is now the case that doesn’t involve some form of electronic evidence, and every litigator must know the ever-expanding issues surrounding it. Find out how e-discovery strategies differ from plaintiff to defendant and how to manage your client’s competing rights to both speech and privacy in our highly discoverable online world. From explaining how to use your opposing party’s social media indiscretions against it to helping you make sense of new federal rules that limit the use of electronic evidence, Zwier and Bocchino tell you everything you must know about the impact of e-discovery on the modern litigation practice.
