Book excerpt: The Rat Man, Etienne Poulsifer, is the survivor of an unthinkable childhood event-- the burning of his village and his family by the Nazis. When Poulsifer hears that a Nazi war criminal is in a Paris jail, he evolves a kind of street theater piece as a political protest in which he tricks himself up in Nazi regalia and wheels around a fox fur in a baby carriage. His obsessive and ill-considered, yet to him logical and necessary act careens out of control, and the startling outcome represents both loss and redemption.

Book Synopsis Ricky Rouse Has a Gun by : Jörg Tittel
Download or read book Ricky Rouse Has a Gun written by Jörg Tittel and published by SelfMadeHero. This book was released on 2014-09-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rick Rouse is a US Army deserter who, after running away to China, gets a job at Fengxian Amusement Park--a family destination heavily "inspired" by Western culture, featuring Rambi (the deer with a red headband), Ratman (the caped crusader with a rat's tail), Bumbo (small ears and a big behind), and dozens of other original characters. The park's general manager is convinced that Rick was destined to greet Fengxian customers, dressed as none other than Ricky Rouse. This original graphic novel is a relentless action comedy, a satire of US-China relations, a parody of Western entertainment, and a curious look at China--a country that, once we look past its often outrageous copyright infringements, is a culture ripe with innovation and a unique, courageous spirit.

Something is stirring in London’s dark, stamping out its territory in brickdust and blood. Something has murdered Saul Garamond’s father, and left Saul to pay for the crime. But a shadow from the urban waste breaks into Saul’s prison cell and leads him to freedom: a shadow called King Rat. King Rat reveals to Saul his own royal heritage—a heritage that draws him into the grimy, magical world below London’s streets. With drum-and-bass pounding the backstreets, Saul must confront the forces that would use him, the ones that would destroy him, and those that have shaped his own bizarre identity. World Fantasy Award–winning author China Miéville began his astounding career with the novel King Rat, which combines a young man’s search for identity with a pulse-pounding story of revenge and madness. This Tor Essential edition includes an introduction by Tim Maughan, author of Infinite Detail.
Book Synopsis Animals as the Third in Relational Psychotherapy by : Jo Silbert
Download or read book Animals as the Third in Relational Psychotherapy written by Jo Silbert and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-03 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animals as the Third in Relational Psychotherapy: Exploring Theory, Frame and Practice elegantly and skilfully weaves together relevant literature, clinical reflections, compelling case material and contemporary psychoanalytic theory to demonstrate how the presence of an animal in the treatment arena can eventually bring about relational, interpersonal and intrapsychic change. Contemporary relational psychoanalytic literature has been virtually silent about our relationship with animals, a feature seemingly intrinsic to our relational worlds. This book seeks to remediate this void by giving voice to the practice and principles of working relationally in the presence of an animal. The text accentuates recurrent themes: animals are seen by human beings as significant subjective others and are treated as legitimate partners for relational and interpersonal processes, attachment figures and transferential objects; animals in the psychotherapy environment can play the role as a ‘bridge’ from the unconscious to the conscious, from the dissociated to the experienced, from the intrapsychic to the interpersonal; as the third in the treatment arena, the animal helps to reveal the field, bringing conflicts to life and making them available for analysis in the clinical setting. In seeking to authorise the incorporation of animals into the practice of relational psychotherapy the text applies conventional concepts to novel contexts; it extends psychoanalytic and relational principles to create a theoretical framework within which to consider the therapeutic effects of working in the triadic interactions of therapist, client and animal and thus also begins to evolve a new version of relational psychoanalytic practice. The authors value the human-animal experience in treatment and repeatedly show how the application of a relational psychoanalytic lens to the patient-therapist-animal triad can enhance the therapeutic process in ways that encourage progressive communication, understanding of the patient and the relaxing of defences, leading to the symbolising of relational capacity, therapeutic breakthrough and intrapsychic change.

Book Synopsis Contemporary Michigan Poetry by : Michael Delp
Download or read book Contemporary Michigan Poetry written by Michael Delp and published by Wayne State University Press. This book was released on 1988 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As David Wagoner wrote in the earlier volume, The Third Coast, "A Michigan poet may be undistinguishable from an Illinois poet or an Arizona poet (except for subject matter), but the publication of this anthology serves to underline one layer of regional cultural strength, even though these are not 'regional poets:" Over a decade later, Contemporary Michigan Poetry is testimony that Michigan poetry continues to flourish. Preserving the mood and texture of Michigan in the 1980s, this new collection includes the best recent work by the state's most accomplished poets. Among the fifty-three contributors are Charles Baxter, Alice Fulton, Jim Harrison, Janet Kaufmann, Josie Kearns, Thomas Lynch, John R. Reed, and Stephen Tudor. Each of the editors is also a contributor to this sampling of poems. Styles range from understated to extravagant, from closely observed to freely imagined. Poems are as varied as the Michigan landscape. Remarkable in its scope and quality, Contemporary Michigan Poetry offers an arresting look at Michigan life and a special glimpse at the preoccupations that possess residents on the Third Coast.
