Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is our great pleasure to present the proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Multiple Access Communications (MACOM) that was held in Barcelona during September 13–14, 2010. In 1961, Claude Shannon established the foundation for the discipline now known as “multi-user information theory” in his pioneering paper “Two-way Communication Channels,” and later Norman Abramson published his paper “The Aloha System—Another Alternative for Computer Communications” in 1970 which introduced the concept of multiple access using a shared common channel. Thereafter, for more than 40 years of study, numerous elegant theories and algorithms have been developed for multiple-access communications. During the 1980s and 1990s the evolution of multiple-access techniques p- ceeded in conjunction with the evolution of wireless networks. Novel multiple access techniques like code division multiple access (CDMA) and orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) provided increased spectral - ?ciency, dynamicity and ?exibility in radio resource allocation with intrinsic anti-multipath and anti-interference features. In this ?rst decade of the 21st century,multiple-accesstechniques,derivedfromadvancedwirelesstransmission methodologiesbasedonthediversityconcept(e. g. ,MC-CDMA,MIMO-OFDMA and SC-FDMA), opened the road to a renewed idea of multiple access. Today multiple-access communications involve many challenging aspects not only l- ited (like in the past) to physical layer design. Medium access control (MAC) techniques play a crucial role in managing the radio resources that users will exploit to transmit their data streams. Recent developments in software radios and cognitive radios have led to a signi?cant impact also on spectrum m- agement and access paradigms.
Book Synopsis On the approximation of the output process of multi-user random access communication networks by : Ioanis Stavrakakis
Download or read book On the approximation of the output process of multi-user random access communication networks written by Ioanis Stavrakakis and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lot of work has been done towards the direction of developing communication protocols that determine how a single common resource can be efficiently shared by a large population of users. By now, it is well known that fixed assignment techniques are not appropriate for a system with large population of bursty users. In the latter case, random access protocols are more efficient and many of them have been suggested. Usually, the amount of information transmitted per time is of fixed length, called a packet. In most of the systems, time is divided into slots of length equal to the time needed for a packet transmission (slotted systems). The deployment of an ever increasing number of multi-user random access communication networks, Brought up the question of how packets whose destination is another network, should be handled. Thus, the issue of network interconnection or multi-hop packet transmission, arises, 3, 6, 7. The basic problem in analyzing interconnected systems is that of characterizing the output process of a multi-user random access communication system; i.e., the departure process of the successfully transmitted packets.

Book Synopsis Combinatorial Methods and Models by : Rudolf Ahlswede
Download or read book Combinatorial Methods and Models written by Rudolf Ahlswede and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-30 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourth volume of Rudolf Ahlswede’s lectures on Information Theory is focused on Combinatorics. Ahlswede was originally motivated to study combinatorial aspects of Information Theory via zero-error codes: in this case the structure of the coding problems usually drastically changes from probabilistic to combinatorial. The best example is Shannon’s zero error capacity, where independent sets in graphs have to be examined. The extension to multiple access channels leads to the Zarankiewicz problem. A code can be regarded combinatorially as a hypergraph; and many coding theorems can be obtained by appropriate colourings or coverings of the underlying hypergraphs. Several such colouring and covering techniques and their applications are introduced in this book. Furthermore, codes produced by permutations and one of Ahlswede’s favourite research fields -- extremal problems in Combinatorics -- are presented. Whereas the first part of the book concentrates on combinatorial methods in order to analyse classical codes as prefix codes or codes in the Hamming metric, the second is devoted to combinatorial models in Information Theory. Here the code concept already relies on a rather combinatorial structure, as in several concrete models of multiple access channels or more refined distortions. An analytical tool coming into play, especially during the analysis of perfect codes, is the use of orthogonal polynomials. Classical information processing concerns the main tasks of gaining knowledge and the storage, transmission and hiding of data. The first task is the prime goal of Statistics. For transmission and hiding data, Shannon developed an impressive mathematical theory called Information Theory, which he based on probabilistic models. The theory largely involves the concept of codes with small error probabilities in spite of noise in the transmission, which is modeled by channels. The lectures presented in this work are suitable for graduate students in Mathematics, and also for those working in Theoretical Computer Science, Physics, and Electrical Engineering with a background in basic Mathematics. The lectures can be used as the basis for courses or to supplement courses in many ways. Ph.D. students will also find research problems, often with conjectures, that offer potential subjects for a thesis. More advanced researchers may find questions which form the basis of entire research programs.
Book Synopsis Synchronization Techniques for Chaotic Communication Systems by : Branislav Jovic
Download or read book Synchronization Techniques for Chaotic Communication Systems written by Branislav Jovic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-20 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 1990s, when synchronization of chaotic communication systems became a popular research subject, a vast number of scientific papers have been published. However, most of today’s books on chaotic communication systems deal exclusively with the systems where perfect synchronization is assumed, an assumption which separates theoretical from practical, real world, systems. This book is the first of its kind dealing exclusively with the synchronization techniques for chaotic communication systems. It describes a number of novel robust synchronization techniques, which there is a lack of, for single and multi-user chaotic communication systems published and highly cited in world’s leading journals in the area. In particular, it presents a solution to the problem of robust chaotic synchronization by presenting the first fully synchronized, highly secure, chaos based DS-CDMA system. The book fills a gap in the existing literature where a number of books exist that deal with chaos and chaotic communications but not with synchronization of chaotic communication systems. It also acts as a bridge between communication system theory and chaotic synchronization by carefully explaining the two concepts and demonstrating how they link into chaotic communication systems. The book also presents a detailed literature review on the topic of synchronization of chaotic communication systems. Furthermore, it presents the literature review on the general topic of chaotic synchronization and how those ideas led to the application of chaotic signals to secure chaotic communication systems. It therefore, in addition to presenting the state of the art systems, also presents a detailed history of chaotic communication systems. In summary, the book stands out in the field of synchronization techniques for chaotic communication systems.
