Book excerpt: How do you survive when time is your enemy? Hazel, a jackrabbit, remembers the day his family was brutally murdered seven years ago, yet all of his memories after have been stolen. He rises from a swamp with a strange mark on his paw and no knowledge of who killed his family or why. His search to find the truth leads him to Evervale, a hidden oasis for the old and wounded where they are tended by strange fairy creatures. There, Hazel may finally find peace, but will he find a way to retrieve his memories? And if so, could they hold the key to stopping the force that threatens their world? Remus, heir of the most feared wolf in Arcana, watches as his father escapes from the depths of the most guarded prison in the land after seven years in confinement. Expected to walk the same path of bloodshed, Remus must make a decision: betray his family, or become a murderer and follow his father to war. Yet neither war nor memory will matter if the rogue time strand, an alternate reality cut loose from the fabric of the multiverse, collides with their world and destroys them all.
Book Synopsis South Wales and the Rising of 1839 by : Ivor Wilks
Download or read book South Wales and the Rising of 1839 written by Ivor Wilks and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-02-25 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1984, this book provides the first full study of the carefully planned rising of south Wales miners and ironworkers in 1839 and of its collapse at the confrontation with soldiers of the 45th regiment of Newport. It examines not only the rising itself, but the factors that made it, if not inevitable, then likely. It argues that while the workers’ movement was an immediate response to the grim circumstances of the workplace, it was also deeply rooted in the centuries-old Welsh experience of repression. This title will be of particular interest to students of Victorian political and social history and well as the history of Wales.

Book Synopsis Culture: Raise ‘low’, Rethink ‘high.’ A Representation of the Academic Potential of So-Called 'Low' Culture by : Emma Buchanan
Download or read book Culture: Raise ‘low’, Rethink ‘high.’ A Representation of the Academic Potential of So-Called 'Low' Culture written by Emma Buchanan and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2020-11-15 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite (or more likely due to) being the culture which most affects and interacts with the masses, the broad and definition-evading category of 'popular culture' remains a second-class citizen in academia, relegated to a position of 'low' below a culture deemed 'high' and worthy of scholarly inquiry. This eclectic collection of essays aims to convince that this inequality must be addressed by exploring a variety of supposedly 'low' cultural types and texts through an academic lens, proving that so-called 'low' culture can be a valuable contribution to academic research. That said, raising the 'low' does not mean making it 'high', turning it into an elite category to be accessed only by experts. Rather, the authors are unswerving in their approach that academic writing and fan writing are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary, it is their knowledge and passion as fans of their subject matter that has inspired their chapters, all of which draw upon their considerable experience of engaging as fans in what they discuss. All the chapters have been written by postgraduate students seeking to inspire a new empiricism through which their interests might be fully pursued in their futures as scholars. Emma Buchanan is a British postgraduate researcher and television fan who is currently writing up her PhD thesis on the topic of gender and change in AMC's "The Walking Dead" as understood from the point of view of Jungian depth psychology.
