Book Synopsis Accuracy of Panoramic Radiographs by : Eric Grant Fox
Download or read book Accuracy of Panoramic Radiographs written by Eric Grant Fox and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine the accuracy of panoramic radiography in determining the vertical bone height from the superior crest to the inferior alveolar canal in human mandibles. The experiment is performed in order to assist practitioners who place dental implants to utilize panoramic radiographs in safe treatment planning and dental implant surgery. Eighteen human cadaver mandibles were obtained and panoramic radiographs were taken with two 4.5 millimeter BB's placed bilaterally. The BB's were placed posterior to the mental foramen. Three experienced dental implant surgeons measured the radiographs in millimeters. The actual measurements were obtained by an independent non-examiner of radiographs. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to statistically analyze the data. Upper and lower confidence bounds were obtained to determine reliability. The confidence interval for the mean prediction showed good reliability in using panoramic radiography for implant placement. However, using individual predictor values indicated that orthopantomographs may not always be reliable in use of dental implant surgery to avoid injury to the inferior alveolar nerve.
