Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces readers to a range of jamming principles and techniques for new radars, combining a wealth of theoretical analyses, test data, calculations, and charts. With rapid advances in military radar technology, new types of radar are constantly emerging. Therefore, there is an urgent need to carry out effective research on these new radars and to develop corresponding jamming techniques. The main topics covered include development of radar and radar countermeasures; jamming techniques for synthetic aperture radar; jamming techniques for pulse compression radar; jamming techniques for pulse Doppler radar; general jamming techniques for various radars; analysis and calculation of the effective jamming suppression zone and jamming exposure zone for radars installed on different platforms; jamming techniques for phased array radar; jamming techniques for dual (multiple) static radar; and solutions for high equivalent radiation power, high reception sensitivity, and transceiver isolation in jammer design.

Book excerpt: This book systematically describes advanced metric wave radar and its practical applications, offering a comprehensive introduction to the engineering design methods from the perspectives of system design, antenna/feed and transmit/receive subsystems, as well as mechanical structure design. Focusing on the height-finding method, it describes in detail how the super-resolution technique can be used to solve the problem of low-angle height finding in metric wave radar. It also discusses the anti-jamming method for the unique jamming environment. Further, it presents narrowband target recognition methods to overcome the limitations of narrow absolute bandwidth in metric wave radar and to further explore the technique’s potential. Cooperative detection for metric wave radar netting is also addressed, and the main experimental results are included. The book offers a valuable resource for professional engineers, researchers and teachers, as well as graduate students engaged in radar system engineering, electronic engineering, and signal processing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition features a wealth of new material on urban warfare, including a computer simulation of EW architecture alternatives for land-based forces based on urban constraints. It also includes an expanded section on time-hopped spread spectrum communications, more details on modern communication system technologies such as CDMA and OFDM, and an in-depth discussion on sources of urban noise. This practical resource is focused on showing the reader how to design and build jammers specifically targeted at spread spectrum, anti-jam communications. Moreover, it gives assistance in evaluating the expected performance of jamming systems against modern communications systems, and discover the best waveform to use to counter communication systems designed to be effective in jamming environments. While mathematical derivations in general are avoided, the book presents error rate performance equations for most modern digital anti-jam communication systems

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents novel research ideas and offers insights into radar system design, artificial intelligence and signal processing applications. Further, it proposes a new concept of antenna spatial polarization characteristics (SPC), suggesting that the antenna polarization is a function of the spatial direction and providing new ideas for radar signal processing (RSP) and anti-jamming. It also discusses the design of an advanced signal-processing algorithm, and proposes new polarimetric and anti-jamming methods using antenna inherent properties. The book helps readers discover the potential of radar information processing and improve its anti-interference and target identification ability. It is of interest to university researchers, radar engineers and graduate students in computer science and electronics who wish to learn the core principles, methods, algorithms, and applications of RSP.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Principles of Modern Radar, has as its genesis a Georgia Tech short course of the same title. This short course has been presented an nually at Georgia Tech since 1969, and a very comprehensive set of course notes has evolved during that seventeen year period. The 1986 edition of these notes ran to 22 chapters, and all of the authors involved, except Mr. Barrett, were full time members of the Georgia Tech research faculty. After considerable encouragement from various persons at the university and within the radar community, we undertook the task of editing the course notes for formal publication. The contents of the book that ensued tend to be practical in nature, since each contributing author is a practicing engineer or scientist and each was selected to write on a topic embraced by his area(s) of expertise. Prime examples are Chaps. 2, 5, and 10, which were authored by E. F. Knott, G. W. Ewell, and N. C. Currie, respectively. Each of these three researchers is rec ognized in the radar community as an expert in the technical area that his chap ter addresses, and each had already authored and published a major book on his subject. Several other contributing authors, including Dr. Bodnar, Mr. Bruder, Mr. Corriher, Dr. Reedy, Dr. Trebits, and Mr. Scheer, also have major book publications to their credit.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to provide graduate students, professional engineers, military officers, and weapons-systems planners with a comprehensive grounding in the technology, evolution, functions, costs, impacts on society, utility, and limi tations of modern strategic weapons systems. Since the subject is often left to the specialists, this work should introduce the general reader to the fundamentals of such systems in an informed manner. Nowadays the intense interaction of means and ends sym bolized by strategic weapons has stimulated a changing dis cipline in which new missile systems and the intricate logic of nuclear force and counterforce hold the stage alongside the truths of conflict, alliances, fears, games, and subtle gains and losses. Many readers with new personal interest or public responsibility in this complex field will require an overall guide to it. This book will not prepare the reader to become an expert in the vast subject of strategic weapons systems. It will, however, enable him to understand, evaluate, and form reasonable opinions about these systems, their capabilities and effective ness. The subject is dealt with more from the viewpoint of the user (investor) rather than the architect (systems engineer) and builder (design engineer). While the user will be concerned with both political as well as technical options which may be available to solve a problem, the systems and design engineers are concerned with analyzing and building technological weapons devices once their requirements are generally known.
